**Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

It's about time we start one of these leagues. I don't really want to be Commish, but will be if I have to(we can offer incentives for someone to be Commish)

Let's use this thread to discuss rules, entry fee, keeper or not, etc.

This is an interesting site : http://fantasyauctioneer.com/

We could use that or maybe do the live auction over AIM(Maybe the later rounds through e-mail).

I think our ideal league would be something like : $300 dollar league with ~14 people, where you get to keep 3 players at their previous price(for x many years maybe)

Please offer suggestions!

If you want in on this league, please post ASAP, as I'm not sure how we're going to select the members(1st come 1st serve/post count/lottery)

Still up for debate. Does anyone want to volunteer to be commish?

I tried out a mock draft at that website and didn't really like how it worked. So I guess the auction over AIM would be best, though I could imagine it would take awhile. Anyone have an opinion on how to do the draft?

I would totally be down for this. I don't think that an AIM draft would be overly tedious, especially if you limited it to 12 teams, but I can see the allure of having 14.

I tried a draft there and thought it actually went overall pretty good. There were a few times when a player was nominated and we couldn't bid on him, but the commish was able to repeat the bidding for the player so we could.

I have never done an auction before, but I didn't realize how much time they take. I think last year the draft for MEBenhoe league took 3-4 hours. This auction took about 3 hours to get through the first 180 players, or a minute per player. That can obviously be changed with shorter times allowed to nominate someone and shorter time to decide whether to bid.

What parts of the auction there did you not like? We could try out different sites as well.

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Just a rules suggestion. In my baseball league, we bid on the first 20 players (starters) and then have a snake draft at the end for reserves. That might help the end go a little quicker.

Also, regarding keepers, we add $ to next years salary. In my football league, it's +$5 for year two, +$10 for year three, back in the pool for year four. In baseball, we go $5,$5,$7,$10,$10,$10...etc. and can keep a player as long as we want.

An auction for starters with snake draft for reserves/bench players is a good way to keep the draft time relatively short.

I'll be in depending on entry fee.

This sounds like a good plan. What are the salaries of the players in a snake?

Also, regarding keep a player as long as you want, does that mean you can keep as many players as you want?

P.S. Feel free to volunteer to be commish

I sent Thayer a league constitution for a different keeper auction league which I think looks pretty good except will need some appropriate changes.

Also, I have a friend who is interested in joining, but will probably want to co-manage with one or two of his friends.

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

I was thinking of a good way we could do this : We create a forum somewhere and each thread is devoted to a player. Maybe we have 3 days to bid on a player until it is locked, and we introduce new players each day.

This site gave me the idea : http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/f...&start=250

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

I want in.

A good way to do auctions is the "thread for each player" way that you mentioned, with a player going to the highest bidder if there have been no new bids for 24 hours (you can adjust the time period, but 24 hrs works well).

Okay, we have 11 so far so we can probably start to get things set up. Who wants to be the commissioner? I'm too lazy/going to be too busy in the summer to be able to do a good job being commish. We can give the commish a free entry if no one volunteers.

That's me - Wasn't sure if I was gonna do it at first but my friends are good to go so count me in. I've talked a bit to Huskiez about stuff and using a site like http://www.fantasyauctioneer.com/pro...:command=20000
and then inputting the rosters into a site like sportsline seems to be the easiest way to do things.

Shorty5553 02-21-2007 01:04 AM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Also, I have plenty of time over the summer so I would be willing to commish if nobody else wanted to.

How many more people do we need?

THAY3R 02-21-2007 09:04 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

It seems like we have enough.

Shorty, I wouldn't mind you being commish, but someone else would have to be holder, as I don't really know who you are.

I think I would prefer the forum + threads mode of an auction draft opposed to that website, anyone else have an opinion?

I can vouch for Shorty being a good commish. Holder can be someone else, doesn't matter.

I think the forum idea is fine but we should probably get stuff going pretty soon. I'm not sure how long it will take to draft but the sooner we start the better.

Eagles 02-23-2007 08:46 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

I think the forum idea is very good assuming two things.

1. We start the forum soonish
2. We don't have too many people up for bidding at the same time because it would create mass confusion.

westside8 02-23-2007 09:15 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

The forum will definitely need to begin soon. And I think 3 days sounds reasonable for a player being up for auction. So are we going with the idea of auctioning the starting positions and doing a snake for the bench, or auction the whole way through?

THAY3R 02-23-2007 09:36 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Okay, so far we have me, Huskies, Eagles, Koloture, doughhater, bugstud, westside8, nopeak, SuperUberBob, sergsz, metsandfinsfan, shorty5553. Shorty is willing to be commish, so please try to start a foeum/league ASAP.

Also, I'm thinking buyin should be something like $300, with $100 of it held for the next year(to help prevent dropouts.)

Anyone not willing to play at that price please let us know now.

Here is what I got so far:

http://2plus2auction.informe.com/

I need to give you access so you can post and what not.

The only thing I can't figure out how to do is to autolock the thread when no one has posted for 24 hours. I'm not sure if this is even possible with the forum service I'm using - Never really tried it before. If anyone knows more let me know.

THAY3R 02-24-2007 03:52 AM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Looks good, thanks for all the work!

I think we should add a MI, CI, one or 2 more OF, and maybe 1 or 2 more P spots.

Typical auction leagues I believe have 13(or 14 if 2 catcher) Hitters and 9 Pitchers.

Also, having a thread autolock isn't that big of a deal I don't think.

Huskiez 02-24-2007 01:52 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Sent Shorty a preliminary constitution which he is going to modify for our league and then post in the Rules section. It will obviously be subject to further discussion and modification. One issue to be resolved is minor league system (separate or on bench).

We're going to need everyone who said they were interested to stay active in this thread. If this league is going to do forum style, it's going to need to start soon...

At the moment, the cost of a team is $300, with $100 of that set aside for next year.

Shorty5553 02-24-2007 03:12 PM

Re: **Official 2 + 2 Fantasy Baseball Auction League Thread ***

Here is a the link to see the constitution:

http://2plus2auction.informe.com/viewtopic.php?t=15

Also I'm trying to find a forum service that will let me upload MODS so I can add the auto-lock mod. Otherwise, we should really try to get things going (I'll have the forum stuff figured out in the next couple of days).
