sleeping pills

my sleep schedule is way out of whack and my weekends typically involve drinking until 6am which doesnt help me wake up for 11:00 classes on monday.

recommend me an inexpensive over-the-counter sleeping medication.

Go to a health store or whatever, lots of places carry this stuff.

But get melatonin/B6 pills, its a herbal solution and works extremely well.

I think he said over the counter, but if you have a doc writing prescriptions, seroquel is the only way to go.

over the counter- Unisom ( which is basically benadryl as someone else mentioned)

All of that [censored] you get over the counter is the exact same [censored] drug. It's kinda bizarre actually, as there are upwards of 20 different products selling the same exact thing in the same dose.

If that doesn't work, try the dramamine. If dramamine doesn't work, take tylenol PM washed down with a shot of alcohol.

My patients, my preference is low dose trazodone.

For personal use, my preference is alcohol.

feel free to add booze as appropriate

or you could just buy anything that is an antihistamine that isn't loratidine (claritin)

Re: sleeping pills

my mind never seems sharp the day after taking the unisom type stuff. you dont get the same quality of sleep as natural sleep at least over the counter.

maybe the herbal melotonin stuff is better.

Re: sleeping pills

I have to disagree with all this melatonin nonsense. It is a hormone. Never take hormones or hormone precursors in any form. They are so bad for you.

technically then, you should never eat turkey considering tryptophan is only 2 stages away from serotonin (tyrptophan --> 5-hydroxytryptophan --> serotonin).

plus, as melatonin is a tryptamine (n-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine i think), i guess that means fun stuff like mushrooms (psilocybin = 4-hydroxytryptamine) are also out. plus, many wine grapes contain non-negligable amounts of melatonin, which by this assessment means wine is pretty bad for you.

i disagree with you CC. taking hormones is not necessarily bad for you. abusing hormones is.

But come on, you knew what I was getting at. The amount of hormones or precursors in turkey and grapes (nobody is eating 'shrooms' daily) is negligible compared to melatonin pills. Plus, the majority of people take them on a daily basis which combined with the amount ingested could easily be considered 'abuse'. This is one of the reasons I why think marijuana is so harmful, from a certain angle, because of he drastic effect it has on your melatonin levels.

I'm just saying, tell me what i'm missing?

From what I can tell, two main points missed are:

1. dosage
2. type of hormone

If someone is taking 2-3 3mg pills pf melatonin every night before bed, I'd be shocked if that person didn't develop some sort of tolerance/addiction to external sources of melatonin, as the pineal gland does not produce anywhere near that much. However, if a person takes 1-2 300 mcg pills of melatonin every night, I'd be shocked if there were any long-term ramifications whatsoever. To people who do not take MAOIs, melatonin is very very safe, and is thought to have many other positive fringe benefits (helps obesity by aiding in body weight regulation, known immunoregulator, known antioxidant, etc.)

Admittedly, taking melatonin is taking a hormone. Taking Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is also taking a hormone. Taking anabolic steriods is taking a hormone. There are clear differences in regards to potential damage (short-term and long-term) caused by these three examples.

Maybe I should have been more clear in my statement of taking melatonin + 5-HTP, that I meant:

take 300 mcg melatonin + 100 mg 5-HTP

not

take 3 mg melatonin + 1 g 5-HTP

there is a very clear difference between these.

Ambien makes you feel groggy for maybe 2 hours afterward, otherwise it's much better than they used to be.

Go to a canadian site called pill transit. Buy a bucket of Xanax 2mg bars. Eat about half (1mg) chewed and disolved under your tung. Follow with 2 nice glasses of MacCallan 10 yr fine oak. Enjoy the next hour as it will be the best hour of your life.

Wake up the next day not remembering why you chose to play NL2K, and wondering why your brain wont work at all.

Rinse and repeat.

Seriously, it's a GREAT way to end a day and I HIGHLY advocate it if you don't have to be particularly sharp the next day.

I also have Ambien, but that [censored] is still under patent and EXPENSIVE!!! Plus you need a real perscription. Not quite as mind mushing tho.

All OTC crap contains Psuedoefedrine I believe, and while it works for a day or 3, it dries you out and loses its effect quickly.

Drop some scratch and buy some Xanax - that ish is GREAT.

The doctor told me to take half a pill, so being the overachiever I am I took 3 whole ones(They are super small pills). 45 minutes later I vaguely remember stumbling around not being able to talk well and people laughing at me. I was out for a good 14 hours.

It really doesn't give you a "hangover"

it'll make you slightly groggy and weirdly numb for an hour or two.

Also If you take 2 ambien with a bunch of alcohol and red bull it makes you really, really high.
