Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

All the Speed SNGs are named "Speed" again which causes the disappearing buttons bug. Last time it took a month to fix and if it takes that long again, then that's a month where I won't be able to play any SNGs (I'm not struggling on with disappearing buttons, 1-tabling Speeds, or trying to play the regulars...).

Thanks in advance - Juk [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

So far we have received no complaints through customer service about dissapearing buttons.
We have the team testing and looking into it now, but so far we are unable to replicate this problem.
The previous issue with writing the HHs to the same file has been corrected...I am told that couldnt be the cause here.
Those of you that are experiencing this feel free to send me an email with any details you can provide. Also, try doing the same thing you were previously doing with no 3rd party applications (office, tracker, etc.) turned on.

Thanks. I'm just about to give it another try playing 6 tables again. The last time the problem kicked in was like this:

With 6 resized tables open and about 10/15 mins into the set of SNGs, the buttons all vanished, then I timed out and got shown the blue text and the button was visible to sit back into the SNG. Then as soon as I sat back in and my turn came again, the button vanished again.

It only happened on perhaps 3/6 of my tables and didn't stop until I restarted the client. Then when I restarted the client the buttons started to vanish again, and I restarted to fix the problems. I think eventually the buttons came back without a restart, and then as I finished off my SNGs (and had less tables open) the problem stopped and I was able to finish off the last 3/4 in peace.

I'll report back on how the next 6 get on.

You're going to play 6 more on there knowing that you are going to be at a disadvantage when your buttons start disappearing again?

Yep, if it helps diagnose the problems then I'll give it another go without any scripts/apps running to see if they could be causing problems.

If all the buttons still vanish, then I won't be playing more until it's fixed.

I just gave it a try playing 9 SNGs with no 3rd party applications running to see if the problem was any better or worse and it was significantly worse (it seems the more tables you play the worse the problem is).

Here is a screenshot of me with no buttons on nearly every table:

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/1215/image3le2.jpg

All I can see is:

a) The bug seems worse with more tables.
b) It doesn't seem to effect the early levels (possibly because I'm clicking the fold checkbox more often then?).
c) Once the buttons vanish on one table, then it starts on all the other tables simultaneously until the client is restarted.
d) Running no 3rd Party applications, or running with affinity set to a single core, make no difference.

I'm afraid I'm not playing anymore until it's confirmed to be fixed.

Re: Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

I just noticed something else interesting: If you check the little box that appears in the bottom right of a table to warn you that you have actions pending on another N tables, then they are all messed up: the top ones say "6" right down to the bottom right table saying just "1".

Re: Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

I and a couple of friends of mine have also had this problem. I restarted the client, but the problem immediately recurred. I restarted it again and closed all other programs I was running, and the problem stopped, but I think that had more to do with the fact that I had busted in some SNGs by this point, so the number of tables was cut down.

MikeO, if the team is trying to reproduce the problem they will need to play a number of speed SNGs at once, say 9. As has been suggested elsewhere, I think this has something to do with renaming all the tourneys to just "Speed".

Edit: One other thing. After I had timed out, when the I'm Back button came up, clicking it did nothing. I had to uncheck the "post blind and fold" box instead. Not that this helped since on my next action I would just have no action buttons again.

Also had this problem, not impressed.

Re: Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

So here's the deal:

Everything is fine with regular STTs. No disappearing buttons, 3rd party software works fine.

Nothing is fine with speeds. Buttons are disappering, 3rd party software dont work. This is when you play 2+ tables at once.

So what is the difference between the speeds and the regulars after the new update? The regulars have different names each, the speeds are all named speed.

PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE SPEEDS NAMES (on the title bar)!
And when you do this, don't change the names back to "Speed" in your next update.

Re: Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

Prolly not... I just had the same problem 4 tabling. Only seemed to happen on 2 of the tables, for one hand. After hand was over, it generally worked again (although it recurred later in tournament).

Called party support, they told me that it was due to a problem with my internet connection and also that maybe the files weren't imported properly during most recent installation.
fwiw, they credited my account when they saw my frequent history (ie. 100-150 tourneys a week at $33).

But, please get this fixed Mike, Poker Stars is beckoning.

Re: Mike O\'Malley: please fix the Speed SNGs

why not also inform the support that this really is a problem and you are looking into it instead of saying no problem exists from their end?

the lying/incompetence from support on such situations is almost as aggrevating as the disappearing buttons themselves.

Can I ask is their actually any logical reasoning behind changing the Speed SNG names all to "Speed"? The last time I assumed it was just a bug that had crept in during an update, but perhaps it's intentional? Either way, couldn't we just have them named back the way they were before until it's tested and working?

Very much wanting to be playing SNGs again (as I'm sure others here are too), but dare not risk the disappearing buttons again...

Please post your system specs here if you are having problems

Mike O just sent me an email and Party are trying to find out what the problem is, but unlike the last problem with disappearing buttons it seems that the current problems are only effecting us 2+2ers (so it could be something like we are all using multiple monitors, etc). To try to help Party narrow down what the problem is, then could everybody who is getting the disappearing buttons bug make a similar post to mine saying what their system specs are (I've probably forgotten something, but please post anything you think is relevant):

<u>Problem</u>
Minimum number of tables played when problem occurs: 5/6
Client(s) used: Party only (not tried Empire yet)

<u>Hardware</u>
OS: WinXP Pro SP2
Dual processor/dual core: Yes
Multiple monitors: Yes (1600x1200 &amp; 1024x768)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200

<u>Software</u>
Firewall: ZoneAlarm
Anti-virus: AVG Free Edition
Anti-spyware: ProcessGuard &amp; SnoopFree
Other: Ultramon &amp; All-snap
Client mods installed: Yes (altered table image and altered card images).

<u>Tested so far</u>
Tested without running any 3rd Party poker software: Yes
Tested with a full delete &amp; re-install of Party: Not yet
Tested on single monitor setup: Not yet
Tested with graphics acceleration turned off: No yet
Tested with single CPU affinity set: Yes
Tested on another similar system: Not yet

I'm, as others are I'm sure, understandably warey of trying out more ideas at the cost of forfeiting yet more SNGs to the bug, but perhaps if enough people post here then it might become obvious what the common factor is (for example: it could be that we are all using multiple-monitors, etc).

If i open 5 or more the buttons will dissapear..
I got AVGuard too but no Firewall..

But i have to say this i disabled all other programs (AVGuard etc..) and the problem still exist..
Has nothing to do with firewall or AVGuard!

Some additions:

Tested many other clients (Stars, Full Tilt, Absolute, Ultimate)!
There are no problems on the other clients, so its a partypoker client problem.

I have ATI Graphic Card and only one monitor 1024 * 768

Re: Please post your system specs here if you are having problems

The problem affects multitablers. It is reasonable to expect that most of the people playing 6 or more tables simultaneously are 2+2ers.

The problem affects Speed Sitngos. With 5+ tables open. It started happening immediately after the last update. What more do you need to know Mike?

Come off it. The last Party update modified the speed SNGs, most obviously by changing the name of all of them to simply "Speed". This must have been a non-critical change, so why don't you just revert that change until you figure out what's going on?

It's blatantly obvious why the problem only affects 2+2ers. The distinguishing feature of 2+2ers isn't that they have balla systems, it's that they play huge numbers of tables simultaneously.

As I said though, if you put a broken version into production, standard practice is not to leave it out there until you figure out what's wrong. It's to revert to a stable version and then figure it out.

Re: Please post your system specs here if you are having problems

I rang PP support the other day (last week, i think) about this, and was told that they are working on the problem. I can upload a recording of the call if anyone is interested.

I have made a couple of posts in the 1TTF [censored] thread about this:

[ QUOTE ]

Man so [censored] pissed Party poker has the crappiest software EVER. I lost like 300-400 to hands where my buttons just disappear. [censored] pissed, anybody else has this happen so much?

[/ QUOTE ]

I rang and abused them the other day - their most recent software upgrade* appears to have brought back problems from several months ago. In addition to the disappearing buttons, the speed tables have lost their numbers again.

I suspect that you'll find that the likelihood of having your buttons disappear is proprtionate to the number of tables you play, and inversely proportionate to the amount of RAM your PC has.

In my case, I find that playing 6 tables (and datamining others) on 1gb of RAM has not caused any troubles.

I never ceased to be amazed at Party - for a company entirely dependent upon the operation of their software, they seem to perform very little testing of the software.

*by "upgrade" I mean "changes that totally f--- up the whole f---ing program"

I actually think the Party client is quite good, but that has more to do with design than the actual coding. I imagine they have real programmers do the architecture and interface design, then give it to monkeys to write the actual code.

The development team is continuing to look into the reported problems, but is having no luck in replicating the missing buttons. I myself have been trying to replicate it, without much luck.

Unlike the previous Speed Sit&amp;Go problem (Speed name), this time there are only the handful of complaints in this thread (nothing reported through CS) and the number of Speed Sit&amp;Go’s played has not decreased (previously they dropped drastically). I am told that the renaming that happened this time could not be the cause.

They will continue to look for the cause and hopefully identify it soon.
