Player cards in Vegas
 

Hey, got a question.

Going back to Vegas this weekend. Last time I was there I picked up some player's cards and racked up hours at MGM and Harrahs resorts, each one at $1/hour for food.

How do you cash these in? Can you go to an MGM restaurant and give the card to the waitress, or does it have to be set up beforehand?

MGM - it's simple - go to the desk for the Poker Room and give them your card. Ask them to print out either all your credits or a specific amount. You'll get a piece of paper that is good at ALMOST all restaurants in MGM so check in advance to make sure that 1 you want to go to is on the list. Your credits are good indefinitely. I left mine behind from my trip in Jan. to be there for my probable trip in May.

Depends on the house. Most of the rooms in Vegas require you to get a comp from the poker room (paper comp) that you can then use in certain restaurants (very rarely all).

Some rooms are different, and make you get the comps from the players club booth. I do not know of any casino where you can just present your players card for payment, at this time.

It's gotta be coming though - you can already do it at least 1 place in Colorado.

Borgata its tracked off your players card, you use it basically as a debit card anywhere to pay.

That's correct, and it really is pretty convenient. However, Borgata changed the value of the comp dollars for food purchases a few months ago. Now, you need 2 comp dollars for every dollar of food that you purchase. That effectively cuts the comp dollars that you earn from playing poker from $1/hour to $0.50/hour. Not much of a comp.

at Wynn the comps are put on your players card at the office in the back of the poker room. you tell them where you want to go eat and they credit it for you, then at the restaurant they just swipe your players cards

And Harrah's in Topeka puts 100 points per hour on your Total Rewards Card. I so do not understand why the Vegas hotels can't do the same. The points I earn in Topeka can be used in Vegas. But the points I earn at Caesars cannot even be used across the street at Paris.

This applies only in the downstairs food court and places like Starbucks. Places like Metro, Noodle Bar, Bobby Flay, etc, are 1-1 (as are rooms, spa, etc).

I think the Stratosphere works this way too (it did about a year ago anyway, before they tucked the cardroom away so that it gets almost no passing traffic). Like at the IP, the card reader on any machine will tell you a comp balance separate to your slot points and you can swipe comp dollars off the card at any casino restaurant. Sadly not at McDonalds, or the pretzel place upstairs, though.
