Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

By the looks of the preview, here will be the setup of the table for the next few episodes...

Seat 1: Brian Townsend
Seat 2: Jamie Gold (then Sam Farha?)
Seat 3: Todd Brunson
Seat 4: Paul Wasicka
Seat 5: Barry Greenstein
Seat 6: Eli Elezera
Seat 7: Jen Harman
Seat 8: Erick Lindgren

If my Sam Farha guess is correct, then it will be interesting to see how aba handles having him to his left. Will also be interested to see if aba 3 bets with any marginal hands PF (which is common place online, but rare and frowned upon live).

Pretty interesting mix of players... two gamb00lers, with the rest of the table being solid, selectively aggressive players.

Preview of the episode can be found at the end of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tr8C2RpmI8

Seat 3: Todd Brunson

Yawn.

Seat 4: Paul Wasicka

Looks like he's going to just take up space like Bob Stupak. The difference is Stupak was entertaining.

Seat 5: Barry Greenstein

He's pretty boring.

Seat 6: Eli Elezera

God no.

Seat 7: Jen Harman

Pretty boring.

Seat 8: Erick Lindgren

Yawn

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

Harman wasn't boring when she was drunk.
I agree about Brunson, Wasicka, and Elezra being no fun.
Lindgren and Barry are fine because they play excellently.

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

Todd Brunson is not a great player?

I find Eli entertaining when he plays atrociously loose poker and then makes jabs at good players like Antonio and Barry.

"About time Antonio gets what he deserves!"
"Barry is playing like tournament!"

That's the thing - they are too good. It's more fun to see people who have some flaws in their game (Gold, Matusow, etc).

I would rather see good poker. If you want to see terrible players with lots of leaks try Celebrity Poker .

When is Ivey going to be on?

Looks like a pretty good table. Harman & Wasicka are the only dead weight in terms of entertainment value. Everyone else is at least pretty aggressive so there should be some confrontations. There's not really anyone to heat up the action like Dan N or Mike M though, so that sucks.

Have we seen the last of Daniel? Does he actually leave winner??

Prob not until around the 12th episode or so.

Negreanu will be back on since he played on both days of taping.

I thought the episodes with Jamie Gold getting PWNED were fun to watch

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

I wouldn't necessarily say "fun" as much as I would say "better poker" episodes. Watching Jamie Gold spew chips was pretty fun and entertaining. But yeah, I'm definitely excited to see the new and better players come in.

So, will these be the first episodes of HSP (excluding the Kaplan thing) that DN misses?

I disagree. The reason I watch HSP is to watch good players. Every other poker show on TV has plenty of bad players to watch.

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

The monster table (Ivey, Antonius, Brad Booth, sbrugby, Dags, Antonio) at the end of the season will have a lot of guys who are dry toast, yet it is likely to be the most fascinating set of poker episodes to be on TV yet. Good poker TV does not rely on colorful characters.

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

Yeah, the last episodes looks promising as you can see some shots in the intro every week.

Brad Booth shoves an enormous tower of cash bricks, David Williams is giggling like a school girl and Benyamine looks like Booth just tipped the waitress. Fun stuff.

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

Haha I didn't know what OP meant by that either.

Anyway, I don't really think one should watch HSP simply for the poker being played as so many of the variables are missing. We don't see every hand and so we probably won't know if Aba is 3 betting light if the original raiser folds (as unlikely as that is on HSP). Certainly it is far more entertaining from a poker perspective than the crappy donkaments on tv, but personally I find that the entertainment value of the people exceeds that of the play.

O RLY?

How many times do you see people 3 bet PF on High Stakes Poker in comparison to online 6 max games (for example, MP raise and BTN 3 bet, or BTN raise and SB 3 bet)?

Now, how much cold calling of PF raises do you see on HSP?

The quality of play in the big games online is about 100X better than live. Online players understand aggression, shania, randomization, etc. The HSP "pros" like to limp and "see flops" and such nonsense.

I like Harmon and I think she has brought a few things to HSP. She's bluffed, made good plays, etc. She laughs and chats with some of the players. Her HSP game is tighter than most there but still good enough to generate action.

Re: Yay, the fun HSP episodes are starting next week

I'd like to see HSP go to 2 hours each week. There simply isn't enough time in a 1 hour broadcast to satiate me. If the WPT can do 2 hours per then HSP surely can.
