$100 in Vegas

I've got $100 dollars and three days to gamble with it in Vegas. I know it's not much, but it's all I can afford to lose. I am looking for a few places where I could take the roll I have sit down at a poker table and walk away up more than what I came in with. Any suggestions?

Its 10,000 credits at the penny slot machines. If you can still find the ones that only require 9 lines, you could sit there all weekend.

luxor has $50max 1-2 NL , you can reload when you are under $50 though...

but thats "2 buyins" so maybe there?

or tropicana seems to have loose games.

Re: $100 in Vegas

$100 is a nice solid buyin for 2/4. It could last you a couple hours. It's a half-buy at most NL1/2 games. Probably will last you 15 minutes.

If you come to Vegas with a $100 poker roll expecting to leave with a profit, you have every probability of being disappointed. Plan to lose it and plan for the "entertainment" to not last very long.

Play $2/4 or $3/6. You won't necessarily go bust starting with 25BB at 2/4.

I normally sit with 200-300 for the 1/2 nl and still only sit with 80 - 100 if i ever decide to get wasted and be stupid at the 2-4 table. 100 is more than enough to play 2/4 and if you just stick to big draws you will even make some money. Just drink for free and wait for monsters. you will lose around 20 bucks chasing and rake in over 80 dollar pots when you fill up.

this is my first suggestion! but if u have to play poker...3/6 at mgm is the easiest game in the world, go at night when theres a bunch of tourists and drunks, get a player's card. i have gone to vegas many times with no more than $200 and the first thing i do is head to mgm...then casino royale's $3 craps tables

I would sit at 1/2 nl at Bally's. The night I played there it was really soft - that was about 1 year ago though.

The real question is - do you want a good chance that your money will last you through the trip or do you want a good chance to make money?

Re: $100 in Vegas

I agree with bav on this one. $100 is not nearly enough. Good luck though.

Unfortunately I have other things in Vegas that I have to do, so I may have only three hours on the first day when I get in in the afternoon to play, so there is no need to extend my bankroll through the trip. Thanks for the advice, think I'll go sit at the MGM and see how things work out.

Bally's 2/4 is super soft, too.

Re: $100 in Vegas

Luxor 50max is your best bet if you want to play poker. I'd give myself a 70% chance of never going broke if I started there and tried to play up a bankroll. YMMV depending on skill and desire to play micro-NL obviously.

It's 1 buyin at the Excalibur 2/4, and you get the wheel!

fishyak 02-06-2007 05:53 PM

Re: $100 in Vegas

Yep, that's at Luxor. But with 2 bad beats your $100 is tapped. MGM or Bally's 2/4 first to more slowly double up, and then take a shot at the Luxor crap shoot.

100 to gamble with or 100 to eat/take cabs/etc?

why would you go to vegas for 3 days with 100 spending money?

You can find lots of 90:10 opportunities to push in a game like the Luxor 1/2 though. The chance of a random walk going two downwards with those odds is pretty small, even with only 2 buyins.

Why on earth would you want to reload? The better question is whether you can buy into the $50 max for $20 or $25.

i'm 86.75% sure that you have to buy in for exactly $50 at the game.

Why on earth would you put your entire trip's bankroll on the table? Some $1-2 games obviously don't require $100 min. (since the Luxor is $50 max). You'd do better there.

Agreed 100%. But we seem to agree you can do some things to make it last longer than other things. 18 hours is better than 15 minutes.

My suggestion if you want to play poker: Buy into a $2/4 limit game for the minimum buy-in. I believe 5 BBet is standard, so that's $20. When you bust out, get up and walk around for a while.

Short-stacked limit is certainly suboptimal for good players in most cases. For bankroll preservation, though, what else can you do?

I did this a bit in Tunica, when I either wanted to visit a given casino (Sam's Town) but didn't want to buy in for $100 to the $1-2 and didn't want to take on the full variance of limit, or when another room's $50 min. $1-2 hadn't started yet and I needed to play $4/8. Sure, I was sacrificing EV, but busting out and driving home would have sacrificed EV.

(If Neteller would let me get at 40% of my poker bankroll, I'd think about these things a lot less. )

$100, I would put it all on the pass line and keep doubling up until I got $300-400 then you could spread that over 3 days.

Re: $100 in Vegas

This is actually how I had my first poker experience, I was in Vegas for the SEMA show this past November, saw that new Cirque show one night and afterwords walked into the Mirage poker room and bought in for $100 at 3/6 Limit, played for about 2 hours, cashed out for like $300... Soft limit games get my vote as the way to build up a small bankroll...
