Bar and Drinking Games list

Rocksteady's post got me thinking about a bunch of old drinking and bar games I used to play. List your favorites here (any alternate names as well) with a brief description...

Liar's Dice

Midnight, 24, Portugese - dice game where you have to qualify with a 1 and a 4 and then get as close to 24 as you can.

King's Cup - Cards are drawn and have specific actions, such as rhyming games, social drinks, and such. A king drawn pours whatever they are drinking into a cup in the middle. The fourth King has to drink the cup.

3 man - All sorts of variations on this dice game, but the 3-man drinks... a lot.

Up the river, down the river- 10 cards are laid down in rows of 5. Each player gets 5 cards. You give drinks on the way up and take drinks on the way back.

[censored], El Presidente- Too many rules to explain, but a basic card game that gives each player a role, and you can boss your subordinates around.

Pyramid- Another card game where you get to give drinks based on if your card is flipped over in the pyramid. You can bluff a lot in this game.

Add some more... and if you want more detailed rules, ask in this thread.

el presidente is usually called azzhole

quarters will always be a classic

Bizzbuzz is fun if you are really drunk
All numbers that have a 3 in them or are a multiple of 3 are bizz
All numbers that have a 7 in them or are a multiple of 7 are buzz
numbers that fit both are bizzbuzz (such as 35 and 37).
You count - first person says 1, next 2, next is biz -- if he says 3 he drinks ... etc

Quarters is also great, especially if you do relays.

I used to play caps a bunch as well. Fill a pint glass quarter full of beer, put it in front of you, your opponent puts their quarter full glass in front of them about 10-15 feet away. You take turns tossing beer caps and try to land in your opponents glass. If you do, they have to drink. Everytime you hite the rim of their glass they have to add a quarter glass more of beer. This is a good partners game, especially in a coed scene.

Flipcup - two teams. One team has to flip Solo cups over faster than the other. Slightly more fun than it sounds.

We also used to play a game in high school called "Zuma Zuma". Everyone was assigned a number, except for one person who was Zuma. Then someone started chanting there own number in a rhythm, and the chanted another number. For instance, player #2 "2,2,4,4" then player #4 would have to pick it up in rhythm "4,4,Zuma,Zuma" and so on. If you break the rhythm, you drink.

beer pong was my favorite. Because I like making my drinking athletic and stuff.
and I mean the version without paddles. Some people call it beirut or something, but that's lame.

azzhole was my second favorite. But one of our variations included encouraged cheating. The only stipulation was that if you were caught, you were automatic azzhole indefinitely. (Until someone else was caught cheating)

Playing the same 2 of spades several times and not getting caught was sweet.

Back in college we played Whale's Tales - basically a grown up game of Who Stole the Cookies From the Cookie Jar, except instead of calling out a player's name, you called out a number. The person # of seats around the table from you had to respond.
Nowadays I can afford alcohol that tastes good enough to drink without being forced to by rules of a game.

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

Oh yea, there was also this one game we played at the end of a party once (let me just go ahead and recommend against ever starting a drinking game at 6am after drinking all night). When asked for a name, the drunken reply was "I dunno...Six Cups of Doom?"
Rules are simple - take 6 cups, number 1-6. On your turn, roll a die. If the cup is empty (which is should be to start out with) put as much beer as you choose into the cup, and pass the die to the next player. If the cup has beer in it, drink it all and roll again.

It's a pretty painful game. I stuck to whale's tales after that.

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

A fun game is drinking trivia, its quite easy. Someone says a category ( ie: philosophers) and everyone, in turn, has to say a philosopher when someone fails to come up with a philosopher or repeat the philosopher someone else said he loses and drinks, the person that lost chooses the category and stars.

Drinking poker. You start with 20 chips , blinds 1/2, u go busto u drink, this game can be played 4 handed max.
The player who has more chips has to give 15 chips to whoever busted.

5 card game. At the start of the game everyone looks at their cards, once they looked they can never look again.
Each turn you have to challenge a player. You tell him this card 7 of spades( or whatever card), he can either challenge you or drink a shot of tequila. If the player that was challenged accepts the challenge, the card is turned over, if the card was the one originally said the challenged player drinks 2 shot of tequila, if not the player who made the challenge drinks 2 shots of tequila.

Political discussion, you start discussing politics with someone who has a different opinion than you and you dislike( extra points if you werent invited to the party)I guess this only works if you and your contendor have passionate stands.

Vodka & Tang: You mix vodka with tang and start offering it to people, you have to be preety immature to enjoy this one.( I know i do!)

Even better is survivor flippy cup. Start with even teams, losing team has to vote some one off, but keep the same amount of cups.

For example, start 5v5. Losing team now has 4 people, but 1 person has to do it twice.

Well for everyone that knows the band. The Manowar drinking game is fun. Drink whenever they mention "fight", "kill", "die" or "metal".

A German classic is "Meier" which is known as Maxico or Mexican elsewhere I think. Rules on request if unkonwn.

But game theory dictates that optimal strategy is playing for caboose in these games

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

- Two die and a cup (or whatever you call the thing you put them into)
- You roll and try to get a higher score than the guy before you. You're allowed two rolls if you want.
- You can only look at your first roll. You then pass on the cup to the next guy anouncing your score. You're the only one who saw the score.
- Next guy can challange and look. If he's right and you announced a wrong score -> You drink; he starts a new round
- If he's wrong: He drinks, you start a new round
- Scoring is:31, 32, 41, 42, 43, 51, 52, 53, 54, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 21 (lowest to highest).
- If you repeat saying anything while playing -> you drink

The fun is that keeping track of the numbers and all when drunk is kind of complicated. Also you can get others to repeat which is always fun. And there's a fair amount of bluffing.

Well, I reread the rules and they are kind of hard to understand if you don't know the game :P

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

Name Game is simple but harder than you would think.

Name a famous person, person to your left says a name that begins with the first letter of that person's surname, e.g. I say Jessica Alba next person says Angelina Jolie next person says Jessica Simpson. If both names begin with the same letter the direction switches, people who are known by one name (Madonna) means the next persons turn is skipped. Sportspeople do not count. Any hesitation or a mistake in the order (not spotting a switch or skip) means you have to drink.

This when combined with 'international drinking' rules (must drink with weak hand, no pointing, not allowed to say 'drink' or numbers, no calling people by their given names; any mistake punished by drinking) is pretty good.

I've played this, and its a blast. We had a few extra rules:

-31 was a reverse, you passed the dice back the other way, and that person had to beat the roll
-32 was a social, everyone drinks and then you roll again
-if you called a 21 (a "mexican") and didn't have it, and got caught, you had 5 drinks. Similarly, if you did have it, the person that doubted you had 5 drinks.

when you start getting drunk, you'll catch peopel saying things like "fourty-six", which isn't even one of the possible numbers, so you can just pick up the cup.

my brother-in-law and I played this heads up one day. it was rough.

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

Just noticed the 'Bar' part of the title...

I dont think I've ever played a drinking game at a bar, (well except for adding drinking rules to cricket), but I have played LCR at a bar. Seemed strange at first, but then I grew to like it.
Had never heard of it until I moved to Ohio.

BluffBlank 02-06-2007 06:08 PM

Re: Bar and Drinking Games list

I had no idea what LCR was, but it looks like a fancy version of a game we play called "1s, 2s, and 3s are free". Basically you start with 3 quarters, and you roll min(#quarters you have, 3) dice, any 4 goes in the middle, any 5 goes to the left, any 6 goes to the right. and you stop when there's only one person left with quarters. You're not out if you lose all yours, because the people around you can pass them to you.

Another bar dice game I've played is called 456. you roll 5 dice, and you have to get a 4, a 5, and a 6 (in that order). and then you add up the two dice you have left, and that's your score. You get 3 shakes, and if you get a 4, 5, or 6 you can pull them out and not reroll them. But you can't pull out a 6 unless you already have a 4 and 5 out, etc. So if you rolled a 4,5,6,2,1 your score would be 3, and you could pull out the 4, 5 and 6, reroll the last two dice to try for a better score. The highest score wins the pot. If the two highest people tie, everyone reantes and you play again.

This is similar to 24/Midnight/Portugese, but in 24 you have to qualify with a 1 and a 4. The other 4 dice become your score. You roll six dice, and you have to take out at least 1 die each roll. You can pull out your 6s before you qualify if you want though, but if you don't qualify you have to add a buck to the pot.

I love the tie rule though.. everyone is always rooting for the tie at the end!

yeah, and when you get enough people playing, the pot starts to get pretty big. Then, inevitably, no one will qualify (you have to get a 4, 5, and 6 to qualify), and someone will win with a 4 or something.

We play with the added rules of no homosexuals or gingers(redheads). Our other rule, which is actually quite good is if you name a deceased person you need to say a few words in their honour and everyone must stand, toast and drink. The toasts get more bizarre as the night goes on.

i play a game called arrogance with my friends. Its pretty simple and good if you like to drink (alot)

- get a coin and a jug
- a person pours an amount of alcohol they are prepaired to drink into the jug
-they then flip the coin and call it in the air
- if they get it wrong they drink whats in the jug and do it over again
- if they got it right they hand the jug and whatever is in to the next person
- and then they pour some of their drink into the jug and etc etc

this game can get pretty nasty when people are drinking different things but thats part of the fun

"letter b"

get a group of friends together.

rules:

1. you cannot say a word beginning with the letter b.
2. if you say a word beginning with the letter b, you friends may repeatedly punch you in the arm.
3. to alleviate the arm-punching you must say the name of the game "letter b."
4. this is not at all a drinking game, but may be done when drunk.

Try it before you hate. Ask GT1T about its awesomeness.
