Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
PITTM suggested this. Good idea. Lots of us I'm sure are going to or having Super Bowl parties this Sunday.
What are good ideas for tasty food to make beyond the basics? I figure some homemade guac is always good, and very simple, so that's something I'll do. My sister usually makes some stuffed mushrooms, also delicious. Anyway, ideas/recipes/questions, fire away! |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Please recommed stuff to take along to someone's for a superbowl party, obv I have no idea what is standard, would like to get something non-standard.

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
My girlfriend makes a pretty mean-ass spinach and artichoke dip that's cheesy goodness. Not sure about the recipe though...

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Chili usually goes over pretty well.

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Bagel bites are phenomenal. You can get the store brand version, which is just mini-bagels covered in processed cheese and sausage bits. Or you can make them yourself -- buy a bag of bagels (mini- or full sized) and spread some tomato sauce on them, sprinkle grated mozzarella on it, and place whatever meat toppings you like. Bake them in a toaster oven for a few minutes and voila.

Diablo,
I started an OOT thread about this a few weeks ago. the best idea seemed to be a 7 layer dip, and things of that nature. I am going all out and making a BBQ Brisket, Texas style. holla. |

Been tasked to do the guacamole, so I'm looking for a nice guacamole recipe - these were a bunch that came up on Epicurious, and this one looks like the tastiest one. -Al |

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
I hope this doesn't come off as an add - but Shuck's in Vegas has the greatest seafood ceviche - from the viewpoint of something you can order a couple orders to go - take back home and have out with the rest of the goods...it RULES.
This will be the third year in a row it is my favorite food to devour during the game. |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
I am a big fan of crab legs with plenty of melted butter and lemon. simple and oh so good
|
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
The choice for "main dish" this year is obviously deep dish pizza.
It's not the best "no plate" food, but for when you're actually sitting down and watching the game, good stuff. brats/etc still get some good points for tradition/midwesternness, but pizza - yum. |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Pretty sure my sis's boyfriend will grill a ton of different sausages.
A friend of my sis's makes the best gumbo ever. It'd be so awesome if he brought a batch to the super bowl. |

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Probably green chile. Got the stuff for it today. It could get made early tho.
I am envious of El D's Sunday morning now too. |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Easy good stuff:
Red Beans and Rice (with andouille sausage) Pork tenderloin Rotel (I know you said beyond dip...but this [censored] is GOOT!) Also an easy out if you are bringing food: Chik Fil-A Nugget trays FTW! |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
My Taquitos.
Onion, tomato, roast beef and a huge chunk of jack cheese rolled in a softened corn tortillas and fryed in good ole' oil. Just the basics, try not to put too much crap in your taquitos. Can be made the night before (store to tupperware lined with a moist cloth so the tortillias do not break/crack while cooking). Never fail. |

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
We went to the supermarket today to get some items and someone suggested shrimp, I think that is an excellent idea for a Superbowl food.
|
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Went to resturant depot and got baby back ribs and lump crab. Going to make BBQ ribs and crab cakes and bring them to the club. Figure it is the least I can do after feeding off the fish.

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Im smoking a turkey, and going to make it "pulled" turkey, going to pre-toast some white bread, mashed potatos, and gravy, so people can make sandwhiches w/ bread, potatoes, and gravy.

nation, "Chinese dumplings are great for these things." Whoa, great idea. Except I'm going here Sunday morning! [/ QUOTE ] I'll have to try that place out next time Im out there. Dim sum was defintely subpar the last time I was in SF. I did go to this place down in Oakland chinatown that was decent tho. Forget the name tho. |
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Puppy Chow!!! aka Crispix Sweet Minglers go on the website for the recipe . . . it's sooooo good.
|
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
Stella,
Maybe a dim sum thread later so we don't hijack this one, but Yank Sing is sorta Americanized and expensive. I like it a lot, but it's not the best SF has to offer. A lot of people prefer Ton Kiang, but that is also on the pricey side. The real key to dim sum is getting Chinese people to take you to the best places in Chinatown. |

Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
My mom does these, and I think she puts in some dried onion too, it ends up tasting a lot like white castles, and I aint complaining!
|
Re: Super Bowl food beyond chips and dip
extreeeeemely easy app.
pour a decent amount of parmesean cheese (from the can) into a bowl and mix in very little amounts of mayo until the mixture is just on the damp side of bone dry. add some diced green onion, spread on some good bread, and toast under the broiler until they are bubbly golden brown. Nothing super fancy and definately not a main course, but hits a certain spot. |
