National City Bank rejects Poker Stars check
 

Hello,
I'm a lurker not a poster so I will keep it short. This afternoon I took a check I recived for a Poker Stars cashout to my National City Llocal branch and attemted to deposit my check. The girl told me that she saw 1 of these checks this week and the bank did not accept it. She made a phone call and i could hear a recording say "You are not autherized to ...." she then told me if she dose not have a # she can call and verify it she can not accept it.

I realy felt like a shady criminal that just printed a check on my computer. I will post Poker Stars responce soon.

I'm confused. It's a real check with real legit routing & account numbers on it. Why would they not accept it?

I very much understand if they would put a hold on the money, but not accepting the check simply doesn't make sense. I would have argued strongly with this girl.

Poker
stars checks do not have their name on them. They are a legitimate check draw by a service which Stars hires. This guy with one post is another idiot spreading fear.

A check is just an IOU for funds that you can reassign to someone else. The bank trades this back to the bank the account is drawn upon to obtain the funds it represents. If this bank decided it was illegal to do business with PokerStars' bank, which is not an unreasonable decision given current events, then the IOU has no value to them so they didn't accept it. It makes total sense. And arguing with a teller won't help you regardless of whether it's right or wrong. It's like telling a traffic cop the speed limit should be higher.

i felt the infomation relivent to the curant climate and seen no other similer posts. Dont dare flame me for stating only facts.

None of you donks have a clue as to how a bank works.

Instant PERMA IP BAN for the OP please!

You could scratch out a crude check on toliet paper and take it for deposit to your bank. As long as it has valid MICR ink routing number on the bottom of it, has a date, text amount matches the numeric amount, and a few other elements, they will accept it for deposit.

They will credit your account with the appropriate amount. If you can actually withdraw against this amount or if it will be "held" is another matter.

The bank will then pass the check on to be cleared. If the check comes back as fake, or insufficient funds, or whatever, the bank will then take out the amount from your account probably plus some charges. If there isn't enough money in your account they will come after you to get it.

So you are telling me a teller at a bank somewhere in the middle of America looked at a check and immediately recognzed that it was from pokerstars? Uh huh.

Fact : the check is legitimate , routing # account # ect. The same check no one else has reported any problems with.
Fact : the check dose not say Poker Stars
Fact : The teller reconized the check
Fact : She initialy offered a hold
Fact : She later refused to accept the check at all and sent me home.

Why can you not just go to a branch from which the check was drawn? They will almost certainly honor it.

I have done this several times here in Canada w/ Stars checks.

I opened this account 10/6/6 not today. Please be reasonable. I play on all over the net as ultra donk and i only posted this to bring it to everyones attention. And yes i have posted previosly I was formaly Storm_Shadow. I am not posting to panic or any other reason. lol and yes i can't spell or type deal with it.

Try another teller at another location.

If refused twice, book an appointment with a branch manager, record the conversation, post it here and crosspost to BBV.

I am sorry If this all turns out to be an ignorant teller. Normaly i never post and in hindsight i wish i had not i truly apoligise if i jumped the gun here.
But I am not panicing or looking to incite one. The important thing here is I have never experianced any trouble with something as simple as depositing a check until today. I will talk to the branch manager tomorow and post their response.

[/ QUOTE ] Honestly, do youself a favor and take it to the biggest branch near you and deposit it via ATM. Whether your bank processes such checks at an Area Office or at the branch itself it will be in somebody's hands by midday that is competent enough to make a simple phone call to confirm the legitimacy of the check.

Again how much was check for. Also look at check tellers may have placed a mark on the check look for this. They sometimes will put a code on it.

I deposited a $40K PokerStars check today without incident. In addition, they said there isn't a hold on the check despite me having less than $40K in available funds in my checking account (I'm not busto, I just keep my offline money in investment accounts).

They did seem curious about the whole thing, but they never really asked any questions. It was a Wachovia branch in the Atlanta-area.

Bankers treating customers like criminals anytime they try to move money or borrow it is standard operating procedure.

I worked at bank for a bit with a nigerian manager who assumed every customer was pulling a nigerian scam on the bank, great fun.

Im depositing a 34k check into commerce tomorrow morning and will be shocked if i have any problems

OK get ready for a good laugh at my expense. Hindsight is always 20/20. There are few facts that seemed irelivent at 1'st.

Fact #1 : I entered the bank at 3:55 P.M. it closes at 4 P.M.
Fact #2 : I do 99% of my banking at another branch
Fact #3 : I have a full beard + mustach (needing a little triming i must admit), I probly need a haircut, I was wearing a ragidy old jaket + sweats.

I probly did not look like a guy that should have a check for any real amount of money! She probly thought this fat hillbilly just got a printer for x-mas.

I now rember that they locked the door at 4 P.M and the teller had to ask someone in a office to let me out. Looking back on the matter i was probly discriminated aginst a little bit. I poke fun at my apearance a bit and i expect some of you will too and here it is all in fun but because I need some grooming and i like the hippy/hillbilly look is no excuse to turn away a 5 year customer like some vegrant begging for change.

Now that you have pulled your self off the floor and had a good laugh please rember discrimination hurts and even your feelings are important. Almost as important as a little sarcasum. less important then good spelling/wrighting skills.

I supose they did the right thing in the end. After all if im going to come in there looking like a criminal i might as well leave feeling like one.

P.S. Please turn your full flame on. I think i earned it with this one.

Multiple times I've had a bank teller not do something for me. So I just walk outside and do the same transaction at the ATM.

Once the bank teller even looked at me while I did it. Everything went through. Why? Bank tellers are lazy and it will cost them much more effort to mail you back the check, or whatever, than to just process it normally.

HEre is the truth:

Some banks will not process checks drawn on non-FED (i.e. Canadian) banks. Most banks will. If your bank won't, take it to another. This is the same excuse neteller is using not to issue checks and like all the [censored] you spew cardcounter, it is a lie from the pits of hell. Cardcounter you have continually berated people and demanded their banning for telling the truth. You deserve exile and you sound very angry.

Who the [censored] are they to say it looks fake and apparently from the internet. I really cant stand some tellers and the bonehead comments they make, they should do the simple job they have of putting the check in your account and sending it to the Federal Reserve to get cashed. It's not like their doing you any favors by accepting the check so tell them to hurry up with the transaction.

actually the UIGEA makes it illegal for US banks to conduct financial transactions with organizations that are known to either fund illegal gambling (i.e. epassport and whatever banks pokerstar is known to use) or the illegal gambling sites themselves. this was to be expected.

I would have stood there as long as it took for them to contact and verify with Chexx Inc. and deposit the check or for a manager to show up and explain why they they won't accept the check and then immediately close my account with them and find a new bank.
