Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Post in this thread mixed drinks with no more than 2 ingredients, plus ice or sugar.
An old favorite I have recently gone back to is the very simple: Vodka and Bitter Lemon [Canada Dry]- Pour 2oz Vodka [Chopin, Belverdere, Goose, whatever] into highball glass. Add bitter lemon soda [and ice cubes] to taste. No garnish. What are some foolproof drinks you like with no more than 2 bottles needed to mix? |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
I love polar bears.
Ideally it is a mix of Vodka, Creme de Menthe and Tia Maria but some people make it without the Tia Maria. Tastes like good chocolate mints. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Summer-
Manhattan- Sweet vermouth, good bourbon, and a cherry Winter Godfather- 1.5oz Amaretto, 1.5oz bourbon |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Whiskey and Ginger Ale.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Godfather:
3:1 Scotch:Amaretto. I will use bourbon as well. Wookie mentioned it in one of his booze threads. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
I always get funny looks when I mention this one, but, Makers Mark and Mt. Dew go great together and is a simple mix. Thats about as mixed drink as I get, but damn its good.
If you want to mix two whiskeys together, then Makers Mark and Jack Daniels packs a real punch. Throw a little Mt. Dew in there and its real smooth. |

Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Malibu(or Parrot Bay) and Coke - chick drink, but very tasty
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
my favorite mixed drink= a glass of whiskey with a pint of beer on the side.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Coffee that drink makes me ill thinking about it, like drinking southern comfort and coke, too sweet + more sweet.
Scotch and dry was my preferred drink. For something different (perhaps) in China (i know it's a recurring theme in all my posts but meh it's all i've known for 2 years now) 95% of people drink Chivas and Green Tea (cold sweet variety). |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
strong grey goose and tonic. you have to have a lime wedge.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Bushmills on the rocks (I know people love their finer whiskies but I can't get enough of Bushmills).
Rum and Ginger Ale. And lately: my homemade infused vodkas with a splash of tonic. KJS |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Good bourbon or scotch strait up. Add a splash of bottled water if needed.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
guids,
I generally toss bitters in my Manhattan, but since we're limited to two ingredients, it's still a good nomination. Coffee, If I'm making a 2 ingredient drink with malibu, the 2nd ingredient will be oj or pineapple juice. I know this drink as a panty ripper, but it's been called other things, too. 42, guids, Godfather is an excellent pick. If you like this drink, also consider the Rusty Nail, which is 3:1 Scotch:Drambuie and also meets the criteria for this thread. I like that more in the summer, and the Godfather for the winter. All, A good drink for someone who likes bitters and is looking for something a little gruff is called Pink Gin. It's simply 3 oz (good) gin and 3 dashes of bitters. Stir with ice, strain, and garnish with a twist of lemon. |

Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Some of my favourites:
greyhound: vodka + grapefruit juice vodka + sparkling water with a twist of lime (or lemon if you prefer). This is way better than vodka/tonic imo. In the summer I love to drink caipirinhas. Ingredients are lime, cachaça (a brazilian alcohol made from sugarcane), sugar, and ice. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
lynchburg lemonade (fresh lemonade, knob creek, cointreau, mint sprig) and a TTT trinidad fundador
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Sprite and captain morgan's. Drank it in high school, tastes like cream soda.
White grapefruit juice and any gin. Delicious. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Black Russians still can't be beat - vodka + kahlua 2:1
Bellinis are much loved by girls - champagne and Peach schnapps 3:1 Daquiri - Rum, lemon juice 3:1, sugar Stinger - Brandy, white creme de menthe 7:1, pour into tumbler with ice and stir. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Peach Schnapps in a Bellini? All the recipes I've seen for this drink called for peach puree or peach nectar from the real fruit. With the degree of seriousness they took this drink when I visited Venice, you'd probably have been slapped for suggesting Schnapps. I think it could work, and it'll get you drunker, but I'll still go for the real fruit, myself.
Daiquiri is lime, not lemon, no? Stinger's a good drink though. Another simple one I forgot. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
beer and coke, give it a try.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Yes, lime is correct, my typo. And I'm assuming most guys don't keep peach puree on hand.

beer and coke, give it a try. [/ QUOTE ] My friend mixed me this drink and it was actually ok. I might've liked it even been better had he not told me what it was, as there was the initial ick factor. |

beer and tomato juice (or V8), give it a try. [/ QUOTE ] |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
My favorite drink is a simple one - a Chopin gimlet.
Chopin vodka, real lime juice from freshly squeezed limes. Substitute Roses Lime if you don't have actual limes to squeeze, but it won't be quite as good. Simple, elegant, awesome old man drink. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks

Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Guavaberry Rum, Juice, Brown Sugar.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Kettle One and Water, with lots of fresh lime juice.
Also, Van Gogh chocolate vodka on the rocks. Over Halloween I had cherry vodka and sprite zero... sort of a rookie drinker's drink, but very good. |

Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
It is of my opinion that bitters ruins a manhattan, I know its "supposed" to be made that way, but most places dont, and I dont like it much.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Bacardi O and Orange Fanta
goes down like its nothing, you will be blacked out before you know it |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
One of my favorite simple drinks is Bombay and tonic with slice of lime.
Also, Sprite and Absolut Mandrin is pretty good. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
I drink Chopin and Belvedere gimlets a lot. Very tasty.
|
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Manhattans are awesome, but they are definitely a three-ingredient drink. The bitters add an important dimension.
Most importantly, though, Manhattans are supposed to be made with Rye, not Bourbon. Try one with a good quality rye, and you'll be blown away by the difference. |

What is your next vodka for a gimlet if those two aren't available? I'm not impressed with Grey Goose, and usually just step down to Stoli or Absolut (yeah, I know) at that point. Please stick to fairly common vodkas in your response - I know there are a bunch of nice ones to step in for Chopin, but many aren't commonly found at a place that doesn't have Chopin. |

Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
Tootsie Roll:
Spiced Rum and Root Beer. Tastes exactly like a tootsie roll. Found this one when I ran out of coke one night. I was pleasantly surprised to get that taste. |
Re: Simple Pleasures: Drinks
The drink that will turn me into an alcoholic:
G&T 1-2 shots of gin in a big glass half a squeezed lime 4 ice cubes fill to top with tonic water stir. so refreshing. |

[/ QUOTE ] Khaos - Many of the best food ideas tend to come about accidentally or via initially unwanted substitution. My rums are mostly for guests who do not enjoy vodka, but I do enjoy Tootsie Rolls. I'm going to try this sometime soon, thanks for the idea. |
