WTF is all that about? Stop making me add 5 hours to every tournament start time.

Already

Server time is still EST since the servers are in Canada

Time zones cross borders.

There are other countries besided the USA that are in a given time zone and there is more than one time zone in the USA.

There is no such thing as "USA time"

Well, EST. It's still seems pretty daft to standardise a time for all tournaments to a country that's not allowed to play there.

We (PartyGaming products) have multi-currency coming out soon, but for the most part poker will remain $USD. Breaking up the players into different currencies in poker would just dilute the games. So for now we will stick with one currency, and our super sleuth research has identified the $USD as the most recognized and trusted currency in the world.

Considered it. But with scheduled tournaments it becomes a nightmare. The website, emails and CS inquiries would make the players confused. If you had your clock on GMT and the tournaments were listed in EST, it would only cause you a headache.
There might be a better solution and we will look for it.

No, it isnt, but it is the largest single country. Had we not had a large presence in the timezone that we are currently set to (eastern) we would have changed immediately. But since there were a large number of players still in that timezone (and surrounding) we decided to leave it as is and investigate further to see how we could change/improve it.

my tip to party: allow tourneys to count towards clearing bonuses.

Why doesn't PartyGaming make itself a privately-held corporation, so that it can accept US players again? It seems like the most effective solution to a lot of problems.

Josem 01-30-2007 06:45 PM

Re: Party! You\'ve banned them all, stop using USA time

i wanted to get that last post in so that mike O sees it.

but in greater detail, it would be great if bonuses were cleared by earning a certain number of PP points, for example.

I play a large volume of SNG tourneys on your site (i think i've paid something like $3k in rake in the last 3 weeks) and it annoys me that I am not eligible for deposit bonuses.

This makes no sense to me - as far as I can think of, there's no logical reason from PP's view to not pay SNG players deposit bonuses the same bonuses they pay cash game players.

Once upon a time, I vaguely remember an email from PP saying that they were going to move towards clearing bonuses based upon PartyPoints, but it has never happened.

Cheers for the reply Mike. Just having a moan because I've had a few beers and missed my tournament because my pissed brain miscalced the start time.

If the reason for keeping the timezone is to build up the player database with South Americans and it is working then I suppose I'm all for it.

All,

It should be clear to every poster here, non-american and american alike, that party poker will only communicate with 2+2 posters on narrow issues of its choosing, and mostly relating to either fluff issues like this one, or in attempts to keep players from bailing their site immediately after a typical ill-thought out buggy software update.

You should give MikeO ZERO credibility, as he promised under a previous posting account to come back here and discuss software and other issues, but never did. He thus is a liar whose word can't be trusted in these forums. Whether that is due to limitations placed on him by his bosses or not, it doesn't matter, because he is their official rep here and has responded in this thread as same. Thus you can just as well substitute "PP" for his name in my comments here, and read their site/management as being liars with zero cred.

Now of course as an american who can no longer play there, this doesn't really concern me any longer specifically. But it does concern me as a 2+2 member who believes that all the sites should deal with us honestly and forthrightly, which includes discussing harder issues that they would like to ignore. If you don't agree, and are willing to let PP use these forums solely for their own ends and thus in a 1 way manner, that is your choice.

Dear xxxxxx,

From TODAY, Wednesday the 31st of January 2007, ALL SCHEDULED TOURNAMENTS are listed in the software according to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) instead of EST (Eastern Standard Time).

WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO MISS ANY TOURNAMENTS!! Check in advance that you have the correct starting time!!

If you have any further questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Obviously it is a good example to never pay attention to MikeO. The answer is probably because now without the U.S. most players want a different currency, giving Party a good chance of ripping off most of them on conversions. ENJOY!

PP deserves a great deal of criticism - but for using US Dollars?!?!

You've gotta be kidding.

courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar

[ QUOTE ]
The dollar is the most important international reserve currency, followed by the euro. The euro inherited this status from the German mark, and since its introduction, has increased its standing considerably, mostly at the expense of the dollar. Despite the dollar's recent losses to the euro, it is still by far the major international reserve currency, with an accumulation nearly three times that of the euro.

[/ QUOTE ]

The USD represents almost two-thirds of Foreign Reserve currencies.

The IMF's data on this is available here: http://www.imf.org/external/np/sta/cofer/eng/cofer.pdf

What's the point of having direct input with the online poker room "manager"? He behaves on this board like somebody who has been given a title without authority, since he constantly avoids discussing any subject with substance. Sending only him here is negative PR, it is a typical mistake of companies that have started thinking they do not need to interact with their customers to stay on top of the game anymore, they just hand somebody a fancy business card and send him to small talk with the customers instead of gearing their whole organization towards real interaction. I don't think he deserves personal attacks though as it is not his fault how their PR-strategy is made up.

Arnfinn,

Good response and a little nicer than mine. The key is party only uses these forums in a one-way manner to discuss very narrow issues of their choosing, and won't discuss anything else. But they promised differently and turned out to be liars re same. There is just no reason to show them or their reps here any respect at all. They're all take and no give.

Anyone want to take bets on this? Unless you define "very near future" as something like "as soon as monkeys fly out of MikeO's azz".

Any statement from Party Minions should First be looked at as a mistake, Second as a lie, and Third as a misleading statement. Finally, it may turn out to be true by accident, sometimes they get lucky.

Hey Mike, when is Party going to move over to UK soil so that they can run the PartyGaming buisness with a huge backing from the UK Government and allow your site to explode with a huge amount of players?

sandycove 02-01-2007 08:23 AM

Re: Party! You\'ve banned them all, stop using USA time

Well, Josem, I wasn't kidding, for purely practical reasons...

...Since dollars direct from the U.S. are no longer welcome at Party Poker, and since there are more Euro in circulation than dollars and since converting my international currency into dollars and back into Euro again adds two more rakes I must overcome.

I do accept the Party line that the dollar is still the international financial "language," although I'm sure you would allow, from Down Under, that confidence is slipping.

adi 02-01-2007 08:35 AM

Re: Party! You\'ve banned them all, stop using USA time

yeah enough with american symbols on party, your largest market by far now is the european union so get the cet and euros on your site, the dollar is weak as [censored] and will probably continue to fall plus there's the conversion since most of us will be using euros now. you don't serve americans anymore so there's no need to keep sucking their [censored] for god sake.
