\"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
This week will be the halfway mark of what looks to be Poker After Dark's run on NBC. The Poker After Dark site titled this week's shows "Phil Phil" for Laak and Hellmuth, as well as throwing throwing in Jennifer Harman, Antonio Esfandiari, Doyle Brunson and Erik Seidel.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Looking forward to seeing another incredibly disinterested Doyle Brunson in this game. Laak should at least bring some entertainment value this week.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Laak is loaded to the gills.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
In my opinion this was the best episode yet, antonio and phil make it worth watching

Laak is loaded to the gills. [/ QUOTE ] Nope, he's always like that. I <3 Phil Laak. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Hellmuth talked the entire time and it was too funny when Shana basically asked him what he was hopped up on. Harman's raises were respected a little too much. Laak repeated "what did you have, what did you have, show me one, show me one" - jeez louise dude. I love that Seidel never ever shows his hands. Doyle's on a jazillion of these shows but doesn't seem to enjoy them a bit. Antonio offered to take Doyle on one of his $10,000 nightclub tours but would treat. So nice.

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Hellmuth was hilarious in that episode.. playing every hand. Awesome

Hellmuth talked the entire time and it was too funny when Shana basically asked him what he was hopped up on. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, one of the best questions ever from Shana to Phil: "You seem pretty jacked up tonight. Did you have some coffee?" |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
laak and esfandiari actually seem like normal guys.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Hellmuth: Doyle, if you've noticed i've played 80% of the hands so far
Brunson: I know. I'm proud of ya. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
what drug or drugs is laak on? he is making this show almost unwatchable for me. he is just to hyper, jittery, and friendly, lol.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Best PAD episode yet.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I was impressed with Laak's reads on a couple hands; one where he called Seidel's 10s on the AA8 board, and the other where he read Hellmuth for having a draw, him for having a hand, but Seidel for having a better hand.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
By my count, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson have each appeared on three of the four episodes so far. Ironically, the only episode NOT to feature Phil so far was the one with all former WSOP champions.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I've always thought Laak was underrated as a poker player. I think he's pretty good.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Looks like Hellmuth's close to going on tilt. Gotta appreciate his strategy though. Raise/fold to reriase. Limp/fold to raise.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I used to think it was funny how bad Phil Hellmuth played. Now it's just downright frustrating. He plays like an old lady at a small stakes limit table.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
So far, Hellmuth is the same donkey he's been in his previous appearances.
HAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAA! You can trap donkeys in big MTTs, Phil, but just give it up against one table full of players who are all better than you. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
The more I watch Hellmuth play against players who are actually good, the less I respect him. How he won that NBC Heads Up Championship in 2005 is beyond me.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
This was a great episode. Looks like another good table.
Phil is wierding me out. Either he's on massive tilt, or he's trying to get out as quickly as possible after getting some free booze. Speaking of which, I thought it was funny what Doyle thought of Phil's choice of drink. I think that's as close as possible to calling Phil a pansy as you can do on national TV. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Hellmuth just said: "the world gets to see how great I play this week" HAHA, fell out of my chair
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
LOL at Laak..."tomfoolery"
|

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
FYI: Barack Obama is NOT an atheist as Eric Siedel thought. He is a member of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
honestly, the PAD format is great. let the players talk, and when we've got all quiet people, or people whose personalities don't mesh well, then just have Ali be hilarious.
I immensely enjoy PAD. Also, Shana is quite the attractive lady. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
My favorite PAD moment before this was last week when Hellmuth was leaving the table and Ivey said, "That's OK, Phil, you can trap me next time we play." Now it's when superskank Jennifer said she wouldn't vote for an atheist and then The Invisible Person In The Sky punished her by giving Esfandiari the four on the river. Way to go, TIPITS.

[/ QUOTE ] Get it right, blasphemer. It was the Flying Spaghetti Monster that sealed her fate. And while I'm getting my hate on for Jennifer, I must note that in all of those Full Tilt commericials during the shot at the end while everyone else is looking normal or like they're having fun, she looks like she's got a weasel stuck up her butt. I used to feel sorry for her . . . |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I love the "To the End of the Poker Boom" toast in the middle. For once I was with the announcer.
Phil Laak is annoying again. He had a small pile of goodwill from his anti-prop talk in HSP but blew that last episode. Shame Eric's timing was bad. |

Phil Laak is annoying again. He had a small pile of goodwill from his anti-prop talk in HSP but blew that last episode. [/ QUOTE ] Phil is great in the same way that David Gray is great. They're both super intelligent guys who have malfunctioning filters between their brains and their mouths. As a result, you get a direct look into whatever weird (but often brilliant) stuff that is going on in their minds without the benefit of what you might call social grace. That makes most people want to shoot themselves in the ears rather than listen to them, but I happen to find it really entertaining in both cases, as unpopular as that may be. It's different in the case other infamous loudmouths, like Matusow. He's interesting enough, but I don't think his intellect is as high powered as Laak's or Gray's, so his act gets much more tired much more quickly for me. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I believe the qualifier on FTP to get a seat on Poker After Dark is not until late April. So, they are obviously still going to be filming episodes until then. I don't know how long the show is going to air, but it can't be the halfway point now.

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I don't have anything against atheist or any other religion, race or sexual preference. I don't have anything against Barack Obama. I just don't want to vote for an atheist. I probably shouldn't of said nevermind on National television but it just came out. I wasn't even thinking about being on television. I don't push religion on people, it's just my own beliefs. I never said I didn't like him or didn't like atheists. I wouldn't even care if there was an atheist elected president but I believe so many decisions in our country are based on God or not. I wish that they would leave religion out of politics but since they don't, I would rather vote for someone who has the same beliefs that I do.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Jennifer |

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the reply. On this website stating you have any religious belief is offensive the the vast majority of the members. You should never be afraid of taking a stand and what you said shouldn't offend anyone though it inevitably will. I'm really curious if you don't mind saying - why did you check the turn in that hand with Esf... - where he hit the 4 on the river? Was it a slow play? Been bugging me since I watched the show. Thanks. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I checked the turn because I felt if I bet he would of folded his hand. I was hoping that he might come out bluffing on the river. The hand kind of back fired on me.
Don't worry there's more bad play to come from me, lol. Jennifer |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Thanks, it's what I thought you were doing. I've really enjoyed this series, learned a lot. Don't ever expect to be at that level but it helps my dinky little game.

I wish that they would leave religion out of politics but since they don't, I would rather vote for someone who has the same beliefs that I do. [/ QUOTE ] I think you could pretty much trust an atheist to leave religion out of politics. By the way, I'm pretty sure Barack Obama is a baptist -- if he were an atheist he'd know he'd have no shot at the White House, because of people like you, who think it's more important that the president 'be like them' than have proven leadership/diplomatic/reasoning skills. It was clear you weren't interested in whether Obama had any of those -- he could be a cross between Einstein, Churchill, and Lincoln for all you know. Doesn't matter -- atheist? Fuggetaboutit. You ruled Obama out faster than a Phil Hellmuth all-in call. |

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
Thanks for your reply. Many many Americans share your views, but I strongly disagree with you.
[ QUOTE ] I don't have anything against atheist or any other religion, race or sexual preference. [/ QUOTE ] Yes you do. You won't vote for an atheist. [ QUOTE ] I believe so many decisions in our country are based on God or not. [/ QUOTE ] I believe many awful decisions have been made by a man who believes he was chosen by his God to lead this country into a catastrophic war. I believe good decisions are based on reason and right or wrong, not God or not. Calling a big all-in on the turn with an inside straight draw is stupid, whether the player is Christian, Jewish, or Atheist. Pat Tillman, the football player that gave up millions of dollars to join the army, didn't do it to serve God and country. His brother said at his memorial service, "Pat isn't with God. He's f***ing dead. He wasn't religious. So thank you for your thoughts, but he's f***ing dead." If we could elect someone who would serve his country as president so selflessly, I'd say we should, even if he is an atheist. [ QUOTE ] I wish that they would leave religion out of politics but since they don't, I would rather vote for someone who has the same beliefs that I do. [/ QUOTE ] They don't because you (and others like you) don't leave it out of your decision-making process. Jennifer, thanks for coming to this forum and expressing your thoughts. Your prejudice does irritate me, but it is a prejudice shared by much of this country. It is moot for this election though, because no open atheist is running. NotReady, it is not theism that offends me. I respect many, many very religious people. It is anti-atheist prejudice that offends me. The assumption that an atheist is less qualified or less moral is wrong and harmful. It is as harmful as the false belief that any Christian is an unthinking idiot that hears imaginary voices. Can't we all just get along? I hope religion doesn't hijack the thread, but I wanted to respond. I'm sorry if others feel this is inappropriate. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread (week 5)
I just said in my last post that I wished they would leave religion out of politics. It's a fact that they don't. I would much rather have a president that has proven leadership/diplomatic/and reasoning skills.
I didn't rule him out. After the conversation that night, I have done a lot of research on Obama. |
