Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

An email I received today:

"Mike,
Your last transaction with NETELLER for $X was not requested from your bank account due to a processing error. We now accept money orders only to clear up the balance in your NETeller account. The balance remaining is $X. The money order information is as follows: Bank Draft, Certified Check or Money Order made payable to NT Services. Mail To:"

I cashed out of Neteller early in the month and received the funds, so I am not waiting on anything more from them. I am tempted to write back and correct them that it wasnt taken from my bank bc of an error, but rather that it was an illegal transaction therefore they should just count there losses... I figure its a long shot but if I can get out of paying for the same reason they are not paying out those that they owe money too im cool with that. I have nothing to lose by trying to beat them at their own game. Thoughts?

I'm certainly no Netteller fan, but people like you make me want to puke.

tell them that "you are extreamly limited in your abillity to transfer money for technical/legal reasons but that it is your highest priority to find a solution to this issue. You expact to have the payment completed in 6 to 8 weeks"

then about the time they decide your insolvent and they will never get it, be a stand up guy and pay them. less whatever extra fee's you incured dues to this whole mess,

thats what i'd do.

I think that if you want to cheat them you should just not pay. It's not as if they are in a position to do anything about it.

Muggers and pickpockets don't waste time writing letters of explanation to their victims. Why should you?

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

Just pay them and do the honest thing. I do think them trying to go after you now is a little shady since there holding on to so many other peoples money, however just do the right thing. Karma, karma, karma!!!!

I appreciate all of the helpful responses. I am not a cheat or one to weasel myself out of what I am entitled to pay, but I just feel like I am giving money to a sinking ship full of treasure. I just know that if they owed me money, they wouldn't be sending me anything. But Karma does go a long way...

In that case, send me $146.78 on Stars. I will tell NT they no longer owe me that amount, and that they have to deduct it from what you owe them.

This guy should obviously pay, but it is interesting that Neteller is presently incapable of getting any money out to players, but it seems to be "Johnny on the Spot" in demanding that money continue to come in.

Since Neteller is asking OP to give a money order, why don't they do the same for all of us requesting a cashout? Come on Neteller, start cutting us money orders!

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

You should e-mail them back and tell them that you will gladly pay them as soon as they process all pending EFTs and checks to American customers.

I think you should intend to pay the money, but hang on to it until such a time that they appear to be paying everyone else in a timely manner.

they cant have it both ways

I will happily mail them a money order for you if they mail me one as well

ummm........exactly. So they can accept money coming in but they can't possibly send money out? That's horrible. It is also completely sickening how much money they've made in transfer fees the last couple of days. They have managed to completely trash their reputation in less than 2 weeks. Nice work Neteller.

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

Promise them payment "within 2-3 business days".

After a week, tell them that it now looks like it will take 2 weeks.

After 3 more weeks, tell them that you recommend they cancel their pending request, and change their desired method of payment. They can then expect their money in 6-8 weeks.

After 3 more months, tell them whatever they are currently telling US customers about cash-outs. If they are processing cash-outs in a timely manner at that time, then go ahead and pay them.

Alternatively, you could have someone do a peer-to-peer transfer to you, and then settle up with that person outside Neteller.

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

How about paying back to one of the people neteller owes money to. Like my friend has 3k in there and cant get it out. Tell neteller you will do that, if they have a problem with that, than don't pay them.

LOL, what reputation? I tried to keep my Neteller balance at a minimum long before this fiasco.

Everytime someone asked on this board "Should I keep $20k in my Neteller account?", 90% of the responses were "Yeah they are reputable blah blah". Everytime I would warn OP of the risk involved, knowing that he would probably scoff at the advice "What is wrong with this guy?".

I can see how someone without enough integrity to realise that this is stealing, or that stealing is wrong, would project a similiar attitude on everyone else. If you don't have personal integrity how could you comprehend the actions of those who do?

the right thing to do here is to pay one of your friends who is bieng screwed by neteller, and notify neteller. From the tone of the OP, I doubt that will happen, but that seems like the clear path to me.

Thoughts, yes I have some. As this is my second post
on 2+2, after several years of being a member, that
thought is why would you not want to pay someone you
owe money to? Your character is on the line, a gambler
only has his integrity...pay the money, you will feel
good about doing it.

your expectations from neteller have very little to do with whether or not you are just using this as an excuse to not pay. The fact is, that the OP has the ability to help out one of his friends who is stuck with this neteller problem, or if he is lacking friends in this situation, one of the many 2+2rs he interacts with, but is choosing to rip off neteller instead.

do I think that neteller is handling this properly? of course I don't. The most obvious thing they are doing is not being honest about what is going on. I believe the odds of neteller paying us our money (eventually) is reasonably high, and in the meantime they are handling it very poorly. at the very least, they are raking in on the p2p transfers that people are using to clear thier money off of neteller. I personally have 1700 in EFT limbo, and haven't decided whether or not i'm going to p2p it our or not. If I do, Neteller will recieve continuing requests for a refund for the 2% fee until I get it back, or they go out of business.

If I was in the OP's shoes I'd reimburse a friend with money in eft limbo and alert neteller that i've paid them back, and to correct that friend's account. If I had no friend in that situation, i'd consider helping out a 2+2er, probably someone with a high post count with about the perfect balance in limbo. If I felt that was a stretch, I'd send neteller thier money, via money order, minus a handling fee, of around 4%. (akin to what neteller is getting for p2p [censored]) I'd alert them in advance that was my plan, and if they weren't amenable to it, I'd advise them to handle thier problem with my bank, as I had made an attempt to settle with them that was superior to how they are handling thier similiar situation with thousands of others.

taking 4% for the trouble of processing and sending a money order seems fair, even more fair in light of neteller not having waived p2p fees during this silliness. not paying neteller money that is clearly owed is not justified by this situation, that's just someone making an excuse to steal money. If I was not comfortable helping out someone who is currently screwed by neteller, i might consider waiting to pay NT back until they are clearly paying thier US customers, but even that seems a little bit shady to me.

Send them a letter telling you that there is currently no valid way for them to withdraw from you, but that your lawyers are working on it. In the meantime, assure them that their money is safe with you! Suggest that they transfer the outstanding balance to a friendly service in another country, such as Epassporte.

i say screw them dont pay them. there not payin alot of there customers so why pay them. tell them there money is in a safe an secure acctount but that u see no need to pay them since you have no use of there services anymore, besides its not like if u pay them there gonna use it to pay a player his funds only thing it will go to is bail money for the 2 morons that came into the US

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

The email was a surprise because they are ultimately the ones who prevented themselves from obtaining those funds from me!? I authorized an EFT- I didn't click "send cashiers check later". They have the tools to process that transaction and if my money is that important to them then they should or should have processed it!

They are obviously blocked from ANY transactions with USA which is why they want me to jump hoops. Technicalities, yes. Am I going to refuse to pay them? Of course not. Its not about the money its a small amount .. Ill probably transfer stars money and work something out with someone.

One considered response: "That deposit was for my transfer to xxxx, he said he will pay me back when neteller pays him, so I will send the money then." Anyways thanks for the posts! (most)

Re: Neteller is trying to collect \"outstanding funds\" from me

I absolutely believe you should email them back and say:

"As soon as you find a way to start paying US customers and you actually pay them, I will happily pay my debt. Until then, I won't be sending a dime."

IMO, a US customer sending them money right now is actually the wrong thing to do. If they pay out in a few months, then it becomes the right thing to do to send them their money at that point.
