Reveal Your 2006 Trading Results

Here are my results averaged across all accounts for the categories. Long stock, no margin:

Personal Accounts:
21 %

For Family and Friends:
41%

2+2 Trading Contest:
28%

Over the past 4 years I average 25% net of fees and expenses.

I'm in the process of learning more about these results. At the end of January of every year I do an audit of my data for every trading day of the year and see where I can improve. Clearly I can.

6.61% for my personal account
16.98% 401(K) old job
18.73% 401(k) new job

Total investment portfolio: 15.36%

My personal stock portfolio did terrible this year, too much financial I think.

I do not know how to calculate out these percentages but I'm glad I didn't lose money in my first year "investing."

Dell and MRVL sent me to hell and AEOS was my angel.

Lesson learned this year? Tech sucks if you're not AAPL. Boring businesses + low P/E = the nuts.

18% 401K

125% Personal trading account (gold, silver, and uranium stocks only, with uranium being the big winner).

If you put the DOW results in terms of Euros and Gold, the DOW performed miserably. I expect the same results in 2007 and 2008.

21.5% annual compound return for over 40 years from Berkshire Hathaway is the best I've ever heard of

Joel Greenblatt's fund supposedly has a 40% annual return for 20 years. But I think he cheats by keeping his fund under $1B and making it as easy as possible.

I view guys like that akin to a ballplayer hitting .370 over the first 5 years of his career. Let's see what he hits at the end of his career before we put him alongside Ty Cobb.

my retirement acc'ts: 21.8%
client portfolios: 18-19%, still waiting for 1-2 audited numbers to come in from PE funds.

' 21.5% annual compound return for over 40 years from Berkshire Hathaway is the best I've ever heard of'

Book Value <> Annual stock return.

'Joel Greenblatt's fund supposedly has a 40% annual return for 20 years. But I think he cheats by keeping his fund under $1B and making it as easy as possible. '

Simons runs over $5bn and has over 35.6% returns.

It was a good year. Client portfolios rose 19.7% in 2006 after a 13.6% return in 2005.

1) Keep it up for another 3 years
2) ?????
3) Profit.
