I am watching the 2004 U.S. poker tournemant on ESPN and Lon makes a comment after a hand goes down between a man in a white hat and another in a man wearing a non black hat. He says "man in the white hat beats the man in the black hat, as it should be!"


WTF?? The guy wasn't even wearing a black hat. How did this make this past editing and on to the air?

If the other guy wasn't wearing a black hat, then it was a retarded comment, but still not racist. "White hat vs. black hat" is a recurring motif in old Westerns, with the good guys wearing white and the bad guys wearing black. Doesn't have anything to do with palefaces beating on negroes.

It's good to recognize ones limitation. btw, 'black hat vs. white hat' is ROOTED in westerns, but it's a very common and non-racist modern terminology.

It's his apt usage of a seldom used word, that is often miscontrued as racist, while referring to a comment that someone has miscontrued as racist, that signals to us so clearly his intentions.
