Castro has soul.
Wonder how he will clean up. |

Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
A couple of decent voices in Memphis..but no obvious "total package"
pretty blah overall I thought |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
the dude who pulled a towel out of his pants zippers made me laugh, he was singing "burning love"
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
I liked Sundance a lot. Castro was pretty good but pitchy.
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Nobody so far really seems to stand out. Did anything like this happen in previous seasons where nobody really stood out during tryouts?
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Sundance seemed to be a cross between Taylor and Elliot, more or less taking the better qualities of each. Plus he seems like the type who may be able to develop a loyal fanbase, the kind that will vote for you even on an off week. I'd say he's an early favorite.
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Sundance, Fidel, and the shy girl. There was that young blond girl from Collierville something Mcoullough that was pretty good. But it's been pretty bad so far.
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Sundance will go far. I hope they dont price him out of the market.
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Sundance and the backup singer have been the 2 best this season so far.
The Fidel Castro dude had an interesting intensity when he sang, I'm just not sure his voice is good enough. |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
I liked Sundance Head and Dannielle Mcollough (?). I didn't care much for the shy girl or the Castro dude. Reading the idol forums, it seems there were about 4 or 5 contestants that people really liked but I have to disagree. I thought the show was pretty boring last night.
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
1. Sundance
2. Backup singer 3. 18 year old blonde |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Melinda Doolittle can belt it, but she has no chance of winning. She reminds me of Paris from last year but with a slightly better voice and much less charisma.

Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
the Castro guy was cool. It would be really interesting if they didn't clean him up.
I was talking about him with 2 co-workers. I was saying "imagine Ted Kazinkzy's neighbor who looks like Castro meets Jesus decides to become a singer..." |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Last night blew out the first week in terms of singing talent. Sundance was quite charming in his interview, he did an awesome job with the song he sang and all around seems like a guy who could go far. Funny about Simon's comment that "this guy blew Taylor out of the water".
The back-up female singer did a tremendous job in terms of singing but who knows if she can get the confidence needed to be the one out in front. Amazing voice control, though. The castro guy was pretty cool, but I don't see him having a ton of range if it comes to poppy songs. Swede |

i did not like castro at all. i do not see him advancing. backup singer girl should go at least as far a jennifer hudson, not much further tho.

If they do the usual Idol thing where the first show in Hollywood you're required to do a group number with 2 other people.... I'm hoping Castro does NOT clean up. I want to see the looks on the other two dudes faces when they're paired with Castro. Priceless. |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
I actually liked Castro, but I'll be surprised if he even makes it to the top24. If he does, he could be a good short-term investment as he is bound to rise in value when he develops a cult following.
Sundance is definitely the one to watch for thusfar, although I could easily see him being the 'surprise ejection' a la Constantine (or even Latoya, but that's a different story). If he opens way high, he could be an interesting short. He's definitely making top12 but he's by no means a lock to win. Backup singer will fall by the wayside. I don't think she makes it past the semis. Lack of beauty and confidence means she gets lost in the fray when people are still undecided as to their favorites. Unless she gets placed in a REALLY weak group I don't think she'll be top2 in the semis... maybe a wild card/judges' choice but I doubt it. Nobody else stood out to me in Memphis, but I urge everybody not to put too much stock in these early auditions. Many great contestants come out of nowhere, and just because we saw Taylor's audition last year does not mean we will see the winner's first audition this year (until he/she makes it far, and then they show it to fill time during a results show) |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
---the girl who wants to be idol by not singing seems to be crazy
---the first gay guy who asked Simon for working visa was funny/crazy ---the Simon look alike was sad, he has one of the best female vocals in the show, but they could not package and market him, and Paula was acting like a baby and would not let Simon make his suggestions, i wonder what Simon was going to say |

---the girl who wants to be idol by not singing seems to be crazy [/ QUOTE ] i had no TV sound at the gym (although did have closed captioning)... anyhow, was she as cringe-worthy as she seemed without sound? it didn't seem funny or entertaining, she came across as simply an unbalanced individual. |

My money is on that Taye Diggs, Jr. kid. I think his name was Henry something.

Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
The first thing I thought when I saw and heard the "Simon look-a-like" was that he already did drag shows due to the obviously waxed eyebrows.
The 2 "hot" friends are already annoying, altho the dark-haired one less so. |

Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
What do you wagerers think about the guy who looks like Justin Timberlake? Decent voice and might get lots of votes from teenage girls...?
|
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
That was Chris Richardson. Good looks and a good voice. I would guess he sails into the top 24 easily.

Anyone else think that super flamboyantly gay guy was a complete act? [/ QUOTE ] You mean Ian? Unfortunately, I have a sense that he's exactly like that in real life. Obviously had no real interest in AI, though...probably just wants some TV time so he can luckbox into some acting gig or something. |

Stick with the crappy singers who really think they're awesome, self-delusion is much more entertaining. |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
I loved the crazy girl who knew she couldn't sing but wanted to be the first American Idol who couldn't sing. Then ranted about the judges being out drinking.
I love crazy people. |

Went on way too long. 2 more good singers could have filled that spot. |
Re: **Official Discussion week of 1/23-1/24**
Few thoughts
-They spent way too much time on that Ian guy, he was ridiculous and annoying. I love that Simon called him a hack (not in so many words) -The only singers I remember who I thought were good were Sundance, the girl who closed out the first day, and Castro...I'm very interested to see what happens with him, I thought he had a pretty cool voice but not sure where it's going. Oh and the "taye Diggs" guy, as you call him, sang well and looked good, although I can't believe he's 16. -The crazy girl was greatly entertaining, especially with my friend's commentary who thought her first burst of insanity was hot. Then it turned into a completely crazy rant and all bets were off. |
