Why is everyone giving up?
I see all these posts of "hanging it up" because of the ewallet debacle. While things are certainly at a low point, I would argue that it is far from the end of things. Remember, all it would really take is 1 ewallet to be offshore and have a wide array of retailers to which they are a part(epassporte?). Can the US really make them do anything? No. Neteller, is NOT a good example of the US reigning supreme. See the numerous posts for what the founders were ACTUALLY arrested for.
Sure, some fish might call it quits, but I think that you fail to realize that a lot of the fish that were going to call it quits because of this legislation would have when the original legislation went through and they were kicked off Party (c'mon we all know that is where ALL the fish were ). Am I being too optimistic in thinking that Online Poker will make it through this? |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
i think probobly too optimistic. i thought online poker was [censored] when party went down, but then i saw the 5-10 full ring games on stars grow by like 600%. now just a few days after the neteller bomb the games are back to preparty crash. unless stars credits people the fee for epassporte i think its over. epassporte fees are horible.

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
I aint giving up.

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
Its out of our hands. The only way it is going to be over is if every site and every funding method leaves the market. I don't see that happening. So, since its out of our hands why worry?

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
not giving up...just waiting until things settle. I am a rec player...the ones you make most of your money off of. I am not going to jump thru hoops to make 50.00
|
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
Not giving up. Have no need to deposit. Grinding away on a couple of sites building my roll. Waiting for things to settle before I rake off the winnings.
|
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
Losing another chunk of fish while keeping the population of winning players steady is indeed gonna make the games much harder.
I'm sure if you're a recreational player that you'll be able to play poker as long as you want, provided you don't mind jumping through some hoops. But if you're a pro who plays lots of hands of lower stakes games for a living, I think you'll notice fewer bad players and tighter tables over time. Remember that every dime you take out of online poker once had to be put in by someone else. If other peoples' deposits slow down dramatically, so will the amount of money coming out. The less-than-spectacular players will be washed ashore. |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
I don't care either way, but with millions of dollars being taken of the tables each day in rake, things are going to change.
|
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
NO NEED TO WORRY!!!!!
Some of the EWALLET sites do other stuff besides fund gambling sites. There is no way the gov't can possibly stop them. Once the Gov't realizes this, they will give up and online poker will live on. LOL. |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
When I run out of toilet paper, it doesn't stop me from crapping.....
|
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
The reason is : uncertainty No one wants to deposit 10K or so, only to be told next day that they cannot get it out with out using a check. No one knows what the Feds might do further. For that matter, no one knows what the sites might do. They all may give up on one fine day and there will be a big scramble to get the money out.
IMO, there will always be online poker, if you want to play. There will always be some way of getting money in and out, but they will be more difficult to use, more costly, more shady and more toward being illegal. |

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
I don't want to give up.
But I don't want to lose my money online either, so I'll probably be (trying?!) cashing out at least half of the $13,000 I have online. I want the damn government to let me as an adult, decide how I should use my own money. |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
Let's see...us governement could block isp's from known gambling sites. The power of us government is hige as we all know and in the past 10 days 2 companies have fallen that were huge in there respective businesses. Our hope, is that its legalized thru the casinos within the usa for online use at some point and its advertised all over the various channels and media at that point. Do we really believe that poker stars and full tilt is going to be allowed to continue serving the us market after what we have just seen?? sad but very true

Most of the 4K gain between 12/25 and 1/17 were probably due to X-mas vacation. So no big explosion yet. Nothing obvious anyway. |

The main problem is that many people are going to have problems getting money in and out of poker sites. |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
True, Linux. But the effect wouldn't be noticable in 3 days time. The poster I was replying to said they already saw a change to pre Oct 13 levels.

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
Online poker is going to be so much bigger; you ain't seen nothing yet!
As soon as this planet is running out of oil; that will be the end of online poker! |

[/ QUOTE ] i didn't move to nevada for poker, but all of a sudden i'm really glad i moved to vegas last month. and i can ride my bike to the casinos, only about two miles from here... just can't play as many tables at a time over there, and at the limits i'm bankrolled to play right now, the fees are pretty crappy for tourneys...30+3/50+5 online vs 25+10/50+15 in the casinos...granted, i haven't shopped the whole strip looking...and i'm still working my way up the learning curve so as to stand a chance against the live sharks. dunno about the rakes out here for ring games either - actually haven't been to the casinos hardly at all since i've been here. been looking at the strip out the window while playing online. my first trip to the strip after moving here i was looking at more than half the blackjack tables in most of the casinos now paying 6:5 - that was disheartening, too. online is definitely the best value from what i've seen, unless i'm missing something... |
Re: Why is everyone giving up?
i hope this whole situation leads to the development of a trusted, easy to use, anonymous internet banking/money system. like paypal but with no customer account information, no accounting freezing, no giving up records, ...
i think if something like this was developed and the integrity vouched for by a couple of the major pokersites, it would catch on very fast. |

Re: Why is everyone giving up?
My main concern is that the casual players simply won't be around anymore if it's too difficult for them to deposit.

Rake isn't going anywhere, so every dollar less that gets deposited is a dollar out of somebody's bottom line. |
