cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

Sorry if this has been asked before...if so, please point me in the direction of that thread.

I want cheap price, and I don't really care about the quality of the room as long as its clean and safe. Out of the major hotels there, which is the cheapest?

TIA for any help.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

Do you want walking distance from casinos? Or willing/able to drive to nearby towns within 10 minutes away? A lot of the small hotel/motels in Atlantic city are dumps and/or unsafe and not worth the little money they charge. If you're willing to drive to Absecon or Pleasantville, you'll find a comfy bed, shower, and be perfectly safe.

Last time I stayed in the Red Carpet near 30 and the GSP and found it entirely adequate to my needs, but even for a cheapskate my tastes are low-end.

Don't have that much experience in AC but I was there last summer for a couple weeks and stayed at the Taj on the poker room rate. Real nice room, safe, around $65. Maybe cheaper now that it is off-season. I don't think there are any minimum playing requirements and they take reservations at the poker rate. Won't hurt to call and see what they will do for you.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

Thanks for the replies so far. Let me add some addittional info:

-I don't know the area that well(I'm from NY), so I would prefer to be right downtown AC. However if there are SIGNIFICANTLY better options one or two towns over, then I'll consider it. I will have a car, although I like to drink often while I play so I would prefer being right down the street for obvious reasons there.

-I'm most going to be playing at the Borgata, so I'd rather not have to play there to get a special rate, but if its only a few hours per day, then I could put a few hours in before going to Borgata.

-I realize that this may be asking too much if I want a cheap hotel, but I've been staying in really good shape recently and I don't want that to change. I would really like a hotel with a free gym for those staying.

I think that with the online play getting harder(both in terms of competition and the ability to deposit) I'm going to start going to AC a lot more often, so I'd really like to find a good place. Thanks again for the help.

If this is important, then you're going to need to stay at a casino/hotel. If you want to play at the Borg, then staying at the Borg is obviously the easiest, yet most expensive answer. Absecon, NJ is about a 10 minute drive from the Borg, and is home to many cheaper and satisfactory hotels, but I don't know if any of them have gyms or fitness centers. Also, keep in mind that the Borg is not near the boardwalk or downtown AC. It is located in what is called the marina district, and is about a 5-10 minute drive to the boardwalk, depending on where you're going. You also should not walk from the Borgata to .. anywhere else. It's isolated.

Yeah, obviously cheap doesn't mean to OP what it means to me. You mean a $100 room rather than a $300 room.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

You could stay in shape by jogging back and forth to Absecon...

Has anyone else had this experience? I had always heard that you had to play really high to get a Taj poker rate, so I've never actually tried to stay there.

thanks for the help...much appriciated.

Yeah, I know where the Borgata is compared to the boardwalk. Absecon sounds like something I should look into, although theres probably no big ones there with gyms, huh? What about the hotel/casinos on the boardwalk? I assume that most of them would have gyms, right? Any opinions on which would be the cheapest?

well I guess "cheapest option that fits my criteria still" is what I'm asking. But I have to think that I should be able to find something for much less than $100, no? During the weekdays, I'm hoping to pay around $50 a night and still get what I want(close to Borgata in driving distance, totally safe and clean, and a gym). Is that unreasonable?

I'm not positive, but I know that at the Borgata getting the poker rake is strictly a matter of hours played(IIRC it was 5 hours/day) and had nothing to do with stakes. At least thats the way it was exactly one year ago when I went for the last Winter Borgata Open.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

Also...not a huge deal but I would obviously prefer a free gym. For example, the Borgata has a gym but they charge $10 per day, which is kinda annoying imo since you're paying a lot for the hotel to begin with.

there are brand new motels/hotels near the parkway on rt 30. its a 10 minute ride to borg. they advertize 39.99, which would be their weekday rate. i dont know if that mon-thus or sun-thurs or whatever. theres places closer that advertize 14.99 weekday rates that i would think are safe, but they definitely arent the ritz.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

I just got back from 4 days at the Resorts on the boardwalk. 59 a night midweek and its possible to walk indoors to the Taj and Showboat which also have very low room rates this time of year. No gym at the Resorts just a pool and some treadmills for 10.00 per day. Taj or Showboat might have exercise facilities you can look on their websites for reservations and information.

If you want to play drink and not have to worry about driving you can walk to numerous card rooms and lounges from the Resorts area.

I was being a bit glib because I've never explicitly looked for a free gym. I would suspect that you'd be better off doing the research and buying a day pass for a local gym, just because free gyms are the sort of amenities that come with a lot of other amenities that you may or may not need. But maybe others are better informed.

That or cheaper with the green coupon book!

Room taxes are a bit high in AC, unsurprisingly.

This is definitely not true anymore, since they opened up there new room. You need to play fairly high stakes to get a poker rate at Borgata now (how high depends on the the night of the week). Although you can get a (higher) "poker rate" (like $120/night) if you are playing in a tournament during the Poker Open or Winter Open, etc even if you don't play cash games.

The only hotel/casino I know where you can get a poker rate room under $50 now is Hilton. The last time I stayed there, it was $30/night with no specific play requirements, but only on weekdays and you can only reserve a room a couple days before your trip. I have no idea which hotels have gyms.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

Gata = expensive
Trop = decent room with decent price
Taj = One step lower room but ok

Abesecon & Black Horse Tpke Holiday Inns are ok but 15 min drive out of the city.

I will be staying at the Holiday Inn on the Bordwalk Sun, Feb 18 (Presdients Day Weekend). Cost is $144 a room.

Good luck finding anything cheap, AC is'nt cheap.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

During the week, it's pretty easy to get I think. On weekends, it's for higher limit players only and can be pretty tough to get even then.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

I think the Fairfield Inn in Absecon has a free gym, but I don't know how good it is. During peak times in AC no hotel is cheap.

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

i have to ask, how long are you going to be in ac for that the free gym might be the deal breaker?

Assani Fisher 01-22-2007 12:59 AM

Re: cheapest decent AC hotel stay?

gonna leave tomorrow...probably stay until Thursday or so. Right now we're looking into the poker room rates at some of the lower hotel/casinos.
