steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
ok, so i'm going to vegas next month, and we plan on eating at a nice steak place while we're there. from the old restaurant thread, it seemed delmonico's got a lot of hype, and we planned on eating there.
however, after looking at some online reviews, it seems like it's been kind of hit-n-miss. i get the impression that they kind of think they're hot [censored], so they might not work as hard as some other restaurants. as an alternative, i'm thinking about craftsteak also. it's in a good location seeing that we plan on seeing KA afterwards. any advice or better suggestions? thanks in advance |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
I make a point of going to three places to eat when I am in Vegas:
In-N-Out Burger Canter's Deli Delmonico's I have never felt that the service or people at Delmonico's is uppity. I have always had a great time and plan on having a great time Saturday at 5PM, which is my next scheduled visit. |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
I've eaten at both. You can't go wrong with either.
However, if given the choice, I'd go back to Craftsteak. |

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
I've been to both more than once....for the ambience and decor, Delmonico's. For the food, Craftsteak hands down. Delmonico's food is quite good but Craftsteak is superior. For a really really good meal if you have a few extra $$ Joel Rubichon is excellent.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
i think the steak at nine is better than the steak at delmonico's. nine is loud though.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
Craftsteak is the 2nd best steak I've ever had in my life.
The #1 slot belongs to a place in Madison, WI. You know, they're very close to the source there. Edit to say I've never eaten at Delmonico's in Vegas. Actually my #1 is Johnny Delmonico's in Madison. Don't know if they are related, but I doubt it. (Delmonico is a cut of beef) |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
Never eaten at craftsteak but Delmonico's rules.
Last time I was in Vegas we ate at Prime. It was ridiculicious but its probably a 15% price markup from other prime steakhouses. Be sure to report on your trip. The last one was Best.Trip Report.Evar. |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
Too much of a good thing? I question coupling KA with Craftsteak because I maybe I'll want that 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) special scotch rock from Craftsteak's updated daily list. And I will want to linger over dessert and coffee and I will have eaten too much and you do need to be in your seat for KA 15 minutes EARLY! And I want to be reasonably alert during KA, the action is non-stop and all over the theatre.
So if you are going to do both in one setting, but sure to give yourself ample time between dinner and the start of the show. At Craftsteak: 1) the scotch rules, as does 2) any potato side dish (I've done both the fries and au gratin), 3) hen of the woods mushroom side dish is an unusual find and quite good, 4) the sugar snap peas are always good, 5) if you are with the "little woman" the hangar steak is "right sized" (we NEVER order Filet Mignon, which is always like butter, FLAVORLESS butter) or do what we do, split a ribeye (the single serving, not the double), 6) for dessert the cinnamon monkey bread is the winner with coffee (and MORE scotch). PS. I enjoy both Craftsteak & Delmonico's. We'll be staying at MGM next weekend and dining at Craftsteak. |

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
The two serve very different kind of dishes, actually.
Craftsteak uses the absolute best ingredients and very fresh simple food cooked extremely well. Their ribeye for instance comes out in a copper tray sliced and you might get a side of the best mushrooms you've ever had, but that is all it is - the best mushrooms prepared better than you think was ever possible. And the ice cream just comes by itself on a dish - the absolute best ice cream and sorbet I've ever had - but not covered with anything- the ice cream is so good it doesn't need anything. Delmonico''s ribeye might come with horseradish whipped potatoes with a rosemary infusion with some truffles sprinkled over it and the ribeye might be rubbed with a pepper rosemary rub or something. Delmonico's desserts might be a rasberry cheesecake with some blueberry/rasberry sauce and a espresso crust. I'm making up the dishes but you get the idea. I think they are very different styles of cooking. We ate at craftsteak and delmonico's both in two days to compare them and realized how different they are, my wife and I both prefer craftsteak. I have eaten almost everywhere in this town (local) except the really high end stuff like Picasso - and craftsteak is my favorite place. I would also say thet the Kobe is not worth the price premium unless money is no object - the non-Kobe ribeye is just as good. If you like seafood get the $65 shellfish appetizer. Awesome! |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
I liked 'em both. Craftsteak is more simply prepared food, Delmonico's a bit more tricked up. Service was outstanding at Delmonico's, a little less so at Craftsteak, but that might well have been because I was at Delmonico's with just one other person (who is somewhat of a regular there), but at Craftsteak with a big group. Delmonicos is the more relaxing atmosphere.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
Craftsteak reservations are now available online thru MGM website. This is new. If you want "prime time" make your res. ASAP because I just tried for next Fri. and it was either 6 pm or 9 pm - nothing available in between.
WARNING: They want a credit card to confirm and threaten a $150 charge for no shows w/ a 24 notice provision. |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
we already have a reservation for delmonico's for 6 that night. ka starts at 9:30, so i'm assuming this will give us enough time to get there.
from the looks of it, i think i'm going to have to eat at both places eventually, so delmonico's it is for this trip. thanks for the insight everyone |

Smokey's is fantastic, easily the best steak in town ... although the Tornado Room is solid, and so is Fitzgerald's in Middleton. As far as Vegas goes, I haven't eaten at Delmonico's but I have eaten at Craftsteak. I LOVED Craftsteak's food and atmosphere ... but I would choose the SW Steakhouse at the Wynn over Craftsteak. So, I would strongly recommend both places, with an edge going to SW. If you're taking a woman on a date, for sure SW. Craftsteak, though, might be better for a larger group hoping to be in a livelier setting. |

MVPSports says that the steak @ Top of the World (Strat) is the best he's ever had.
I wouldn't know, nor will I ever. Locals don't go up in the Strat Tower. The mofo is gonna fall down someday. |

The vertical shot ride was down for maintenance, which was disappointing (I've done it once before and it ranks as the best of breed that I've done), but the other couple contraptions were working. Twirling around and around 1000' above the valley floor was entertaining, but I think I'm too old now for merry-go-rounds...took a day for my stomach to stop feeling queasy, and trying to sleep 6 hours later was difficult as the bed kept tilting. |

But, they do serve a dessert, the peanut butter cup with caramel ice cream, that is decadent. Smooth peanut butter covered in a dark chocolate ganache that is encircled by a dark chocolate cookie crust with an intensely flavored caramel ice cream and buttery peanut brittle; not to mention the hot chocolate with cinnamon marshmallows on the side. An awesome way to finish off a great steakhouse experience. |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
My choices:
N9NES for very good steak and great scene - steakhouse meets night club. Delmonicos very good steak, great room good for date night. Fix - extremely good steak that I believe was dry aged. Horrible room Does anyone know was steakhouse in LV serve dry aged steaks? BTW, best steakhouse in the world is Bern's in Tampa - no contest. |
Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
Even though I've never been to Tampa, I'll blindly nominate The Pine Club in Dayton OH for "The Best Steakhouse in the World" title. Just thinking about it is giving me a hankering for some red meat.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
having still not been to craftsteak, i will say the best steak house in vegas is nine. the steak just tastes better than delmonico in my book, and the other stuff is on par. the wine list is good and not too outrageous, and the staff was very good when we were there the other night. only downside is it's super noisy club scene style, but the upside is there are some exceptionally hot girls walking around. great place.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s
I have reservations at BOA next Saturday night. Big mistake? Delmonicos doesn't have availability and I won't pay $50 if I miss a reservation at Craftsteak. Thoughts?

Peter Luger's in Brooklyn. Otherwise you may as well eat Sushi.
