Ideas for something fun to do...Friday night

Well one of my best friends and I are trying to think of what to do tomorrow night. We're not club or bar people generally. I'm going bowling tonight so we probably wont do that. Normally we eat, rent movies and just hang out. But I think we're looking for something fun.

I thought about going to see a movie. I'm 'meh' on that right now.

Maybe an Omni Theater (at the Museum of Science) show? Or a laser show?

Perhaps a play in the city?

Maybe a wicked good dinner around Boston?

Give me some ideas. Hookers and blow are Saturday night so that's out.

Pillow fight in bra and panties? Bonus if there is webcam footage.

sign stealing is always a good time. Other than that you listed about all the activities that I would ever find myself doing on a friday night.

tenn,

a fabulous dinner and a play is kind of like a baller version of sitting around, eating and renting movies, right?

in all seriousness i am sure there are some decent plays in boston. failing that, there has to be a good blues club or something along those lines, depending on yr musical tastes

This idea - it is great.

As an alternative, why not have a poker night? If non of your friends really play, this could be an opportunity to teach them. I bet you can get some cool 2p2'ers to help fill a game of drunken limit/NL SMALL STAKES poker (tourneys aren't as much fun cause once someone busts, they kinda have nothing to do).

I was thinking she meant not a "nightclub." A blues club is a little different.

- look around for wine/booze tasting

- live music in a small venue

- whatever you do, at the end of the night, be sure you are good and loaded, then break out your new Guitar Hero. You'll thank me later.

by bars I meant wicked packed w/ drunken guys. and by clubs I meant annoying dance clubs. A blues club is something I'm much more apt to go to. I just got two suggestions for jazz clubs in boston that I'm going to check out.

Just the two of you? I was thinking if you have a group you would seem like the type to enjoy a scavenger hunt. Those can be a lot of fun with the right group of people.

Play drinking Jenga. Once each jenga piece you can put rules like take 3 drinks or you are thumbmaster ect. You can get trashed pretty quick and if you knock over the tower you have to chug the rest of your beer

Tenny, I think I have an idea for you.

If you've never been, the Oak Bar beside the Oak Room at the Fairmount Copley Plaza is a pretty old-school chill spot from way back.

They usually have live jazz, etc. and the place is just great for people watching and sipping a martini or something. They charge like $15 a drink, but they bring you a little mixing glass with basically an entire other drink in it, so it's basically only $7.50 a pop.

I've gone with the wife before and just sat around for a couple/few hours doing a whole lot of nothing. Dim lights, a little jazz, a little dirty martini, good conversation. Just a relaxing good time.

Anyway, FWIW.

.....just don't smoke.

Edit: The bar is about 4-5x the size of the picture shown, with a lot of 20 foot tall windows.

Its pretty awesome. You go in fill out some waivers and then have to watch a safety video. You have to put on one of those fire jumpsuits (When I went in phoenix tho it was so hot they didnt make us wear them, so I think they are for more "part of the experience" than "safety". A helmet and neckbrace. You have to take a breathealazier before you get in the kart too.

When I went I remember paying for some package, it was like $30 for three races, and I remember thinking, "wow, that sucks I'll only get to race 3 times".

I never even did the 3rd race cuz I was so tired from the first 2. You are zipping along at like 25 or 30mph but its open wheeled and you are so close to the ground you feel like you are doing 60mph, so its really intense and takes a ton of concentration. I think each race was 10 minutes, but it felt like half an hour. I was actually sore the next day! When its over you get a printout with all your lap times, top speed, etc. And it compares you to everyone else in your race so you can see what rank your fastest lap was and what place you finished and all that.

The actual place had other stuff to do too, there was a rock climbing wall, a huge arcade, a little "playland", pool tables a snack bar.

I went with a group of friends (male and female) and every single one of us left excitedly talking about how it was the best time ever. I definitely would recommend it to anyone whos looking for something fun to do.

Hey, anyone up for 2+2 night at the local F1? I'm down.

27o, I stayed at the Fairmont in Nov. I think the Oak Bar is much better during the day for a quick drink, largely because you can walk to the hotel lobby after and play with the hotel's pet dog.

Also, guitar hero is a terrific idea. Particularly if you include a wiseass or two.
