Re: ***OFFICIAL AFC TITLE GAME pats @ COLTS ***

I think both defenses played great this weekend. Colts obviously played very well, although against a Ravens offense that never seemed that formidable. Pats defense played great this game given the quality of the offense they were facing and the terrible field position they were given consistently by the pathetic Pats offense.

I don't know who is playing better now, but the Pats certainly have a better defense, and not by a small margin.

VarlosZ 01-14-2007 10:35 PM

Re: ***OFFICIAL AFC TITLE GAME pats @ COLTS ***

Depends what you mean by "right now," Assani. If you're asking which defense has played best the last two weeks, then it's the Colts (somewhere between a small or large amount). If you mean which defense is more likely to play well next week, then it's the Pats (somewhere between a large and a huge amount).

I said Pats by a large amount. The first 16 games are more predictive than the last 2.

I hear Jack Baeur shawdowed Troy Brown in the offseason to learn some new moves. Go pats. (as a Browns fan this is bitter sweet watching Belicheck beat Schot.

Can anyone see Vinateiri missing a late FG to clinch the loss?

no.
if it was in NE then maybe but in the dome I think Vini is a lock on FG's.

I could see NE's kicker winning it on a long ass field goal given they'll be in the Dome.

I can see this being a close game won on a FG by either team, Pats winning by 7 or less or Indy blowing out NE.

I could see the Pats lining up for the game winning field goal, and Vinateri ripping off his Colts uniform, under which he has a Pats uniform. He comes out and drops a 60 yarder for the win. Dungee shakes his head as the kick goes up mouthing, "money, money... money." Manning blames his o-line.

Colts are 9-0 in the dome this year but Brady hasn't lost in a Dome in his career (is that right). Something has got to give.

I'm rooting for the Pats big time.

If the Colts win, I'll root for them in the superbowl, though if it's against the Saints it'll be a push.

Seeing as how the Colts and the Texans are the only AFC teams in domes, its really not that surprising.

Pats +3 seems like a good pick. There performance today notwithstanding, they were at worst the 4th best team in the NFL this year, whereas the Colts are a 9-10 win team that luckboxed into a 12-4 record.

New England Patriots AFC Championship Game Record

1/12/86: Patriots 31, Dolphins 14
1/12/97: Patriots 20, Jaguars 6
1/27/02: Patriots 24, Steelers 17
1/18/04: Patriots 24, Colts 14
1/23/05: Patriots 41, Steelers 27

I choose to believe this gives the Patriots an advantage.

I feel the same way about the Bears.

I was born and raised in Indiana, my Dad grew up in Chicago. The Colts arrived when I was 6, Dad raised me as a bears fan. The 85 team is the first NFL team that I remember with any clarity.

The Colts captured my heart long ago. I was going to school in Chicago when the Bears had their miracle run in 2001. The Colts had their "playoffs!?!!?!" year due to the Edge injury and I took a ton of crap from my friends there when Bears beat the Colts that year.

I talked to my dad today and he was very conflicted about the possible matchup. The fact that Grossman is from my hometown adds another level of complications. In any other situation I'd be rooting for the Bears.

Either way it's been a great football season as spectators for the both of us? In fact the past two years have been great.

I personally think the colts will win this one. It won't be pretty but I think the colts are tough as hell right now. Yet, I am going against my number one NFL playoff rule, don't bet against the patriots.
