50-100 calldown
game is playing pretty agro like most hsnl games. i havent seen anyone limp yet so i was very confused on what type of range to put this guy on. anyways i just sat so i don't have much of an image and i haven't played w this guy before but my friend was telling me he was bad and to sit so i did.
4 or 5 handed on fulltilt effective stacks 10,000 utg (luckyULSA) limps and I raise to $400 with JJ from SB BB folds and utg calls flop comes T 8 8 (rainbow) I check (thoughts?) and call $850 (2600) T 8 8 2 I check and call $2200 or something (6950) T 8 8 2 Ace!!! I check and call all in for 5,000ish |
Re: 50-100 calldown
DONT listen to your friend
my computers messed up. didnt mean 2 post twice. i dont like it your behind alot and i think hes expecting a call here. |
Re: 50-100 calldown
luckyulsa is not bad... hes one of the better players
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
I'm not really a fan of the flop check because I think you take it down enough on the flop in that spot that I think you should be betting your whole range, but the rest of the hand looks fine against lucky.
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
I missread the hand.
Thought he lead the flop. I dont really get the flop check. once youve checked id c/r or lead turn. You gotta call river now though. He's deff capable of having air often enough. |
Re: 50-100 calldown
this hand is played in bizzaro world
grim, what do you think villain has? tough assigning a range given his passivity preflop then 3barrelling on a dry board. plus you have 2 jacks so its not like he has an oesd.. i normally bet the flop and take it from there. |
Re: 50-100 calldown
is it possible this is a limp/rr attempt which was aborted when it turns out that it was grimstarr, out of position, who raised?
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
LuckyUL was up $427k on FTP yesterday, hard to believe he's all that bad.
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
I would fold the river. Also, i wouldn't put much faith in your friends assessment of his play.

Re: 50-100 calldown

Re: 50-100 calldown
don't like the flop check but don't think the rest of the hand is bad
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
River is a fold imo. As the hand played out, there's almost no hand you could have from his perspective that's going to check-call twice (overpair/AK calldown) and fold that river, so I don't think the river bet is ever a bluff from a competent player... but I don't know this guy. I also don't think JJ is the best hand to do what you've done here with.

Re: 50-100 calldown
i prefer a cb on the flop.
you're playing a line that requires you to have a good read on your opponent, and the problem is that it doesn't look like you have one, not to mention being out of position. sometimes such play will work out and you'll look brilliant. other times you'll find yourself rebuying. |
Re: 50-100 calldown
looks fine. river is close I dont think it matters much, but i think a call is slightly better than a fold if i had to say.

Re: 50-100 calldown
mperich what ever happened to you?
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
fwiw i've seen lucky make some dumb bluffs before
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
You really think you're getting tripled barreled? I think Villain has you on a hand like AK, AQ. And he probably assumes that he can make the river shove expecting to get called by one of those hands. This is almost never a bluff against any crazy psycho opponent. What were the results?

Re: 50-100 calldown
I'm with the rest of the group- I hate the flop check. Maybe with AA or KK, but with JJ you're afraid of 15 cards falling (A, K, Q, T). That's too many possible scare cards to give a free card. I think the only reason to check the flop would be to checkraise which you didn't do. Hell, at least get it in there on the turn.
I can see the river call if he's that reckless, but if he's on A9 or some crap, you deserved to lose the hand the way you played it. If he was bluffing, great call. Lee |
Re: 50-100 calldown
Easy to say in hindsight but I believe the villian is triple barreling with an underpair to the flop (and evidently to your hand). He senses rightly you have an overpair but will suspect he has hit the ace or indeed had the 8 all along. This is basic abc analysis but not every hand is off the shizzle.
I think your call down can only be expecting this hand - if you are suspecting a suited conncectors, trash, you have to include an 8 in his range and therefore I believe when considering his total range do not have 'odds for a call'. I call, well done gg nh wp |
Re: 50-100 calldown
This is one of those hands where you would have to take the same line even if your hand were face up and the villain knew your hole cards.
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
what mperich said is good. fwiw, you should really treat JJ like the nuts against this opponent and fastplay it - lucky is super paranoid and will look for every opportunity to take the pot from you if he thinks you're bluffing. which is what you want JJ to look like here.

Re: 50-100 calldown
grim you need to look at who your friends are. utg in that hand is not bad
|
Re: 50-100 calldown
i think you played it fine and i would call the river
