Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
I'm thinking about a Glock 20 (10mm KERPOW!@!!!), or possibly one of the .38 models.
Any handgun enthusiasts with suggestions? I have a young son (5) that is with me every weekend, but next week he is moving out of state, so for the next few years I will be going there to visit. At any rate, he will be with me during the summers... so suggestions on how to keep the weapon secured would also be nice. |

mp5's are sick, but certainly not something I am interested in or can purchase legally.
No firearm nuts? What about any of the proclaimed "balla's?" |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
any gun shop will have trigger locks to keep the kid safe. If your real paranoid, use a locking case also. Teach him actual gun safety ASAP. i learned gun safety when i was about 5.
Glocks are very nice though. I have used a couple. Also have enjoyed using the model 1911 .45. its the handgun that the US used during WWII, actually pretty much every war. Actual war vintage ones are pricy, but they still manufacture variants of it that are affordable. |

Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
glocks are OK, but you may want something with a safety. I would recommend you look at Berettas. They fire much smoother than glocks and they have a real safety. They aren't as reliable as glocks though and require more maintenance.
And get a 40cal. 9MM (which is what I assume you meant unless they started making 10MM shells) doesn't have quite the stopping power. The US military switched to the 9MM Beretta and away from the super awesome badass colt 45 (in use for almost 80 years as the standard officer sidearm) because the 9MM was easier for women to fire. Most cops carry 40s Get a keypad gunsafe that fits under your bed. Forget the trigger lock as you don't want to fuc around with a key if you really need the gun. Hope that helps, OP |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
Thanks for the tips DDY.
For the record, I am willing to sacrifice having a firearm for home security in exchange for 100% guarantee my son will never have access to it (when he is staying with me), so trigger locks + safe is OK with me. Glock's Super 10 (Glock 20) |

Glock's Super 10 (Glock 20) [/ QUOTE ] If you have it in a safe, that should be enough. Problem is, if you have a trigger lock and have it in a safe, will you really be able to get to it quick enough if you need it? Keep in mind you may have only 5 seconds to get it. Remember that it isn't any good if you can't get to it fast enough. If you go the trigger lock+safe route, make sure you keep the key close and I suggest drilling yourself 1/month in getting it out of the safe FAST. And I agree that your son not being able to get to it should be priority #1. |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
If you want to carry I personally like these two, the Kimber Ultra Carry II in .40:
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/8...carrylgvm4.jpg or Springfield XD Sub-Compact in .40: http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/4272/202491py2.jpg Other recommendations: Sig 226, doesn't look like you want a .45 but Kimber makes some nice 1911's including the bad ass Gold Match Ten II, a .45 with a 13 round clip: http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/716...tchten2yh3.jpg I'm not a big Glock fan but it's all about personal preference, go the range, try a bunch of different guns and buy the one you like. |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
Anyone have a CCW by the way (Californians). I need a good reason to carry, so far I have self-defense/someone threatening me, plus, I carry large sums of cash from time to time. I'm curious as to whether or not those are good enough reasons.

Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
Get a Deagle. They're really great if you're good at getting those headshots in one try, and should be no problem to conceal:
http://shop.military-club.cz/images/...c_desert_s.jpg My second choice would be the trusty old AK-47. It's really great if you keep from spraying with it and do controlled bursts to the head. Concealment might be troublesome though. http://www.ak-47.net/images/AK47/AK-47.gif Finally, if you're a real balla, I would consider getting an AWP sniper rifle. If you hit, it's an instant kill! Concealment is a big issue here, but you'll be camping behind a crate anyway so it's not like it's gonna be a big problem. http://games.tom.com/zhuanti/cs/images/w/awp.jpg |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
I used to play CS too.
I actually looked at reviews of the Deagle and it's supposively a POS. Am I ghey for liking the scout? |

I have never owned a gun and probably never will but for some reason I really want one of these, the TAR-21 Israeli assault rifle.

Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
Glocks are nice but if you're going to carry get something with a real safety. That trigger safety always scared the [censored] out of me whenever I carried it. As far as something that you just want for home protection, if you must have a handgun instead of a shotgun, I'd recommend some type of revolver in at least .357 . Revolvers are much less prone to reliability problems and if you ever need it in a real self defense situation that's all that really matters.

Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
It's sorta hard to carry a larger gun for CCW. You really have to dress around the gun. Alot of good CCW guns are Kel-tec 32 and p3at which is a .380 caliber. They are tiny tiny so you can throw them into your jeans pocket and forget all about them.
If you want a revolver a popular choice is the J-frame Smith. Glocks are nice. I have one that never gives me any problems. You can get them relatively cheap( im not sure about the 10mm version, but 9mm versions you can find decently cheap) The really small guns are not a joy to shoot, so if you want one to take to the range and play with you really dont want a tiny gun such as the Kel-Tec. Also price range matter if you are choosing one. Some people are suggesting guns such as kimber .45 which can be over a thousand dollars. All the sig guns 220, 226 etc are great guns and always get great reviews. As do the springfield XD series which is available in at least 9mm, .40, and .45. Im not sure about 10mm. Ding Dong, They do make 10mm I think the FBI uses them. Glocks are really nice first guns because they dont require much upkeep to keep in good condition. Also since they are extremely popular they are easy to find used. Spare parts, magazines, etc are really easy to find too. You prolly want to maybe rent some guns at a range or go to a gun show to just feel some guns in your hand. Some may be too big/small for your hands. anything else? |

i dont plan on retyping it over so ill give a cliff notes version of what i was going to post if you want a good concealed weapon look into a Kahr PM9 although i like glocks i think you might be better off going to a range and asking the front desk if they have any sigs or CZ's for you to rent on their range. you might have to call up the local range yourself and find this out. its more a matter of preferance to a man what kind of weapon he would like to use as a carry so you really need to hold them in your arms/fire them before you really make a decision. berettas are nice beginner starter pistols to get oriented on but if youre more experienced with firearms id suggest going a sig/CZ route. |

Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
kahr pm9's are pretty awesome. longer trigger pull than I like but they are great cuz they are thin. They are a little more expensive than glocks.
Price range is pretty important. You can get nicer stuff the more you spend. Sig's, CZ's, they are all great. There is a ton of good stuff to choose from. It's a lot personal preference. I think the dept. of homeland sec. uses sigs and put them through a really tough torture test. sig 220 is supposed to be one of the best .45's available. Sig 226 is a great 9mm. My glock's never jam but I try to clean them every time I take them to shoot. CZ's are thicker than other guns so if you have small hands you might not like them. But they are great guns otherwise. I'm a little drunk and leaving for bars right now if this message isnt the most coherant. peace. |
Re: Variance(?): I want to purchase a firearm
