Weight Training to Become Super-Attractive
 
I know there have been threads in the past about lifting to gain size and/or strength, but all I really want to do is become more attractive. Well, I also want to get faster and more physical for sports (just recreational, I'm not part of any leagues or anything), but I figure that will be a by-product.

So, yeah... Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

look up stuff on HST style workouts... the theory behind them is to start very light after doing nothing for a while and shocking your muscles continuously for a set period. Every workout you increase your weight and decrease reps slightly, not allowing your muscles to "get used" to the exercises.

Supposedly this allows for large muscle mass gains even though strength-wise you may not make huge gains.

You do these in cycles, and then let your body fully rest and recover for a couple weeks of no activity before starting a new set of exercises...

This is what I remember about it anyway, its been a year or so since I looked this stuff up

HST is good stuff. To clarify your post, you're supposed to decondition your muscles so they respond to lighter stimulus. This way your muscles will hypertrophy even when you're progressively increasing with lighter weights.

I guess I really just want more definition everywhere. I'm getting a little bit of a stomach, but it's not too big of a deal... I'm around 5'8" and weigh around 150 (this is probably because I completely lack muscle).

Add a few bodyweight exercises and you will be good to go. That look good look that most people are after is really just a low single digit body fat %. Good luck.

So the typical "more definition, wanna get cut" thing. Best way to get those washboard abs comes from diet. Probably the best and most healthy way to get good value out of the sacrifices you make to go on a diet is to drink nothing but water or something like non-sugared ice tea. Soda, beer, and other booze will add a huge amount of totally useless calories to your diet.

If you cut out the garbage, you can actually eat a lot more regular good food. Or just eat the same amount of good food, but start losing weight surprisingly quickly. The high calorie garbage just destroys you, though.

I have no idea what you're like now, but don't succumb to the typically fat person idea that changing your body will drastically change your life for the better. A lot of really heavy people think that if they lose weight, they will be popular, get tons of girls with no effort, etc. They then become shocked and horrified that not being fat just puts them on a level playing field with everyone else and they're just as lonely and miserable as they were before. I'm prety scrawny, but I still get girls, some of whom are quite hot. Sorry if this doesn't make sense or I sound like a dick, it's late and I partied incredibly hard yesterday.

edit: basically getting ripped won't necessarily make your life any better. But it could.

Tron,
First, you've got to be dedicated and disciplined. Diet is huge. Eat 5-6 small meals a day with your biggest meal being mid afternoon. And run, run, run. Cardio with weight training (you do not have to go heavy). Actually doing push-ups, sit-ups with your weight training will get the job done.

Tron, If you feel you have no muscle on your body, then I think you would be best to try and gain some muscle mass, Then get really defined. Although I workout to get stronger and stay healthy, working out to have a more attractive body is equally if not more important to.

First part Hypertrophy
For each excercise do 4 sets 8-12, with a 90 second rest in between. It is good if you are almost at failure for each set, you want your muscles to be exhausted. Workouts should be about an hour and a half. Also eat as much as you can. If you are new to the gym you want to workout 3 times a week.

Second part, after about 1-3 months of the first (depending on much muscle you want to gain) is the definition phase. Here your goal is to cut down on the fat, and you will probably lose some muscle too.

Take 2 excercises, doing 30 of the first, then 30 of the second without resting in between. Eventually build each up to 50. After this you want to combine them all together so you are doing a continuous circuit with a lot of repitions. Probably do this 3 times a week, I forget the specifics exactly. I guess you could throw in some running after each workout.
