Craps > NL Hold\'em

Trip to casino.

Play a few hours of MSNL. Win $3. Yippee.

Go to craps table before dinner. Win $870.

Eat fantastic dinner.

Visit local 'dance' club. Girls didn't seem to be wearing much. Weird, huh?

Drink half bottle of Goose, plus about 3 more drinks.
Convince 2 girls to come back to casino with us at 3 am.

Drunkenly assault the craps table. Tell girls if they bring us luck we'll split profits 50-50 with them.

Roll, roll, roll. Virgin shooter arrives, we cheer loudly.
Win $1520. Cash-out. Girls seem fairly excited and extremely friendly at this point.

Attempt to put $1k on pass-line, am forcibly restrained by friend and both girls.
Come-out roll is 10, their wisdom is mighty!

Next roll is a ten. Wrath and darkness overcome me.
Someone demands where to find hookers and blow in this town.

[Friend coughs loudly and subtly gestures at our new friends.]

Oh.

Wake up this morning with mighty hangover. And, surprisingly, all or substantially all of my $$$ left.

Winner!

Yes, altho if the girls had asked for half [and not prevented me obvs], I would have obliged due to the quick winning of $500 for each of us on literally 2 rolls.

Just go around casinos doing drunk people a favor.

it couldn't be the same $1k, I only had 1 $1k chip.

Oh, and evidently they comped me RFB. They know a baller when they see one...

To the Nits who think they needed to explain the concept of 'true odds' [not free, they cost you extra $ to play and variance] - thank you ever so much!

You do realize this is the BBV forum, not the 'Basic craps strategies for n00bs' forum? good.

The odds on a $1k come-out are the same as on a $25 come-out roll. Nothing has changed except the balla-ness of the wager.

I meant put the grand as odds & table minimum as your line bet. I was specifically talking about the odds payoff (2x).

That depends on how you look at it. If you take all the crazy, 1,000 to 1 long shot bets that a crap table has & lump them together with the more even money bets & come up with a mathmatical mean for that game....then yeah....poker has a better EV. Waaaay better.

But, if a player stays away from "hopping the hardways", "world bets", & the "hi lo yo's" on the come out & such and just sticks to the basics where he has a much higher EV against the house...then...some poker games don't necessarily have a large edge over craps.

But, at the end of the day, you are still playing against the house & the game is tilted in their favor just as any other.

I started my poker career by rolling dice with a hundred that my boss gave me at the annual Vegas trip. I turned that into $400 by betting strictly the pass line, no odds, no other bets. He lost $800 by showing me how to do all of the fancy bets.

This year, with another hundred from the boss, I played $1/2 NL poker and ran it up to $1,300. I promptly lost it by making fancy bets at the craps table. My boss thought that was so funny. He won big at the craps table. No more craps for me.

naj,

i always pictured you as a black chip craps player. especially a few days after the as you described it 'heater' betting the bowl games.

but i can see not wanting to risk your buzz especially if there were women around. it is a difficult balance to find this gambling. but if you go 100 per roll your winnings would've been huge and you definitely would've bet 1k on the finishing ten ball. sounds harsh but this is why we review these things, so we can improve as gamblers.

1...e5 > Sicilian defense

Seriously, play 1...e5 and the guys who aren't experts on the Spanish play some silly stuff which they don't know properly. This past weekend, at the Miami Winter Open, I was winning on move 20 on the black side of the two knights defense vs some 2200. (I'm lyk 2100 FIDE).

I used to play Sicilian Najdorf with Schev pawn center (...e6 instead of ...e5), it's so solid. The Dragon will presumably be refuted someday. And it doesn't even feel like playing chess, it's just "The Dragon." Lame.

Agreed 110%, but the problem was my two idiot friends didn't bring enough to pay for dinner, entertainment, drinks, and gamble properly, so I had to loan them 40 black chips.

If my risk of ruin hadn't been unnecessarily jacked-up by their non-balla-ness that evening, I would have. They had maxed out their ATM on blackjack [dumb] and have no line of credit [dumber] that we ballers have.

going busto would have eliminated all fun outside of casino, plus the very +ev return to craps table with our two gorgeous good-luck charms.

Like you said, playing blacks would have resulted in $6k gain plus further $1k on the 10 bet for $7k. Clearly I erred in banking my friends [altho they also won nicely.]
