What would you do if you hit a Bad Beat Jackpot and you were underage?

If he is the winner and he is asking how to subvert legal age limits then this thread might get locked. Know what I mean? As long as this is a hypothetical thread we are as Kosher as Christmas.

Well if its like the Bad beat at the casino I play at, I'd say I didnt have my players card/ID with me and LEAVE, because if they find out that you are underage, it VOIDS the jackpot. In my casino everybody playing hold'em in the room at the time gets paid a share of the BBJ (30% hand loser, 20% hand winner, 50% everybody in the room).

That means you just cost everbody $$$. If you leave the casino may pay the people who are supposed to be paid, while waiting for you to show up with your ID, and only you won't get paid. Thats bad news but its better than pissing off the whole room at you. Especially if the jack pot is high, you get a high 5 figure low 6 figure jackpot you get a lot of people in the room playing just hoping the jackpot will hit.

Re: Underage BBJ

Here in LA I've heard of a number of times the BBJ was hit and one of the winners "forgot" their ID. The money is held until they can come back with ID.

The problem here--as I've heard it--isn't being underage, but being illegal/undocumented. In either case, they just go buy one.

I didn't know Guillermo Hernandez was such a popular name for 40-yr old Chinese men.

Re: Underage BBJ

Does it void the Jackpot if anyone at the table is underage? Or just the loser? Or both the winner and the loser?

cpk 01-05-2007 04:38 PM

Re: Underage BBJ

I wouldn't expect the jackpot to be void in most jurisdictions. What definitely would happen (at least in WA state) is that the dealer, floor supervisor, shift supervisor, and cardroom would be subject to fines for allowing underage gaming. I am not sure what would happen to the underage player's share, though. Possibly, distributed equally among all participants--as if an employee had participated.

In some states/clubs the answer is yes. CAZ for example. This is a good example why underage people should not gamble in casinos, their actions could also hurt others and in some situations result in law enforcement intervention.

And I would hope at some point would generate a quick settlement rather than face a lawsuit. It would be entertaining to watch the CAZ lawyers squirm as the facts came out that CAZ broke the law by allowing an underage person to play, that they didn't do even the most basic ID checking, and that they are now trying to screw 9 other innocent players who did nothing wrong, and who could not have done anything to prevent this. Yeah...that should be fun.

Of course a casino would report that they had an underaged person playing...Doubt it.

Also, in alot of places, employees are eligible for BBJs.

One person at a room was underage and won a table share. He asked a floor about it, they said they'd handle it. Not sure if he got a share(i'll have to ask him next time I see him), but no one got in trouble over it.

Thats probably because the table share was less than the reportable amount for your area(although in Mississippi I think anything over $400 is reported to the state (and feds)) via 1099g.

In some places that would likely be the case.

It was much more than $400.

And this casino (usually) reports everything. Even winners of $100 drawings.

Re: Underage BBJ

In WA, everything involving player-supported jackpot funds has to be reported to the Gambling Commission. And I do mean everything. If you win a $15 Monte Carlo funded by the PSJ drop, it goes on a form.

Bernie: That's a good point....it mitigates towards the casino going ahead and paying the jackpot share to the underage player, because otherwise they'd have to report why they didn't pay it, and then they'd get fined....

[An aside: I was at Diamond Lil's one day and an undercover gaming agent informed the floor supervisor that his underage agent had been playing the pit games. Oops. What a huge pain in the ass for everyone that was--for the next three months I had to show ID to play there, and I'm 35.]

You shouldn't gamble underage. I am pretty confident when I say nobody has ever gambled underage on my shift. I have come in to take over the shift and put people out who were already playing that couldn't produce ID.

I was playing at the Hustler a few weeks ago and got my aces cracked. I did not realize my driver's license had lapsed, they just gave me a receipt, I went down to the Hawthorne DMV and renewed my license and got my money after 2 very long hours at the DMV. Hustler then gave me my white chip ($100) after I got back.

I generally ask any one for ID that looks under 30. You can tell a lot abotu a person's age when you look at their hands.

These days I mostly play poker online. As far as high limit players I always knew who they were, so somebody coming in that I didn't recognize would really stick out.

I'm 22 and got carded at Showboat in AC yesterday before I could even make it to the poker room.

They put a pink wristband on me (lol) and let me go.
