Chiefs vs Colts Thread

Well I was just looking on ESPN where they are talking about the game and all and this seems a little funny to me. They give the Chiefs the edge in 5 of the 9 catagories yet the overall to the Colts. Here is the link to that page.

Also, I feel this game has upset written all over it. Lamar Hunt would be proud if he were still alive and how sweet would it be if the Chiefs were able to bring the Lamar Hunt trophy back to Kansas City? Is it something that the Chiefs can do? I think so and here is why. The Chiefs backed their way into the playoffs. They have nothing to lose since they werent even supposed to be here. They have Larry Johnson and I dont think the Colts can stop him. He will rush for around 200 yards and 3 TDs and he will carry them into round 2.

Now lets look at the next game if the Chiefs win. They will play SD at SD. Take a look at the game they played there where the Chargers won 20-9. The Chiefs blocked a punt the Chargers recovered after a Chiefs player tried to pick up when it had crossed the LOS. The very next play LT broke a long run for a score. This could have been a 14 point swing. Herm has always had the Chargers number and the Chiefs were the last team to beat the Chargers. This one will be tough but I think it can happen.

AFC championship game will be either at Baltimore or NE and Baltimore will give the Chiefs some trouble and is the one game I think they will have a tough time winning if played. NE is beatable and so are the Ravens but I think the Ravens match up better vs KC than any of the other teams in the AFC. The Chiefs would be riding a 4 game win streak coming into this game if it happened so anything is possible.

My prediction this week is the Chiefs win at Indy 38-31

The Colts are 8-0 at home. The Chiefs and 3-5 on the road. HMMMM. That is all I feel like saying for now.

The only team that they beat at home that is in the playoffs is the Eagles and the NFC is horrible. Beyond that the only other team worth mentioning is the Bengals.

Colts have been in a freefall the last half of the season. They lost to freaking Houston. They have to be fairly shell-shocked right now. All it takes is a little pressure on Manning and a few breaks go the Chiefs' way early, then the Colts start pressing. Of course a few early Colts scores and Trent Green turnovers and it's over.

Also I think with the way the last 2 weeks of the season played out, the football gods clearly are blessing the Chiefs right now. Do I really believe that? No. But let's hope the players do.

LJ will run the ball 30 plus times and the Colts wont get the ball 10x this week so their offense will have to play perfect when they do have the ball to win.

And KC has beaten who on the road? St Louis, Oakland and Zona. Wow, impressive. I'm not saying Indy will win but KC hasn't been all that impressive on the road. By far their most impressive wins have come at home.

Jack of Arcades 01-04-2007 05:27 PM

Re: Chiefs vs Colts Thread

The Colts offense doesn't even average 10 possessions a game.

Seriously, go look at the Broncos game. The Broncos ran the ball 36 times for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns, and limited the Colts to 9 drives. The Colts still won, and they won it on the easiest 2 minute drill I've ever seen. Oh, and they did it on the road.

I mean, the Chiefs can win, but the Colts are better.

The squares seem to be fawning over the Chiefs. Makes one wonder if Indy -7 is a profitable bet.

Yup, that's about it. Anyone remember Pitt last year?? Don't confuse the winning team with the better team. That said it's tough to beat the Colts in that dome (artifical sound and all Needle ), but the Chiefs can do it.

If the Colts get by the Chiefs, they'll beat Balt and NE will upset SD. It would make for a great AFCC game.

There's a HUGE difference between this years Chiefs team and last years Pittsburgh team. Pittsburgh came into the playoffs white hot. They won their last 4 games after losing 3 in a row including an embarrasing loss to Cincy. Meanwhile, KC has won their last 2 but I wouldn't call them "white hot" by any means. I'd say more like they luck boxed their way into the playoffs. The Chiefs have played decently lately but not great, with inconsistant play before their last 2 wins.

FWIW I hate people calling anybody "this year's Steelers." I mean the Steelers last year were the first team to ever do what they did. Why is it they are the only team to ever win three straight road games to get to the Superbowl? Because it is near immpossible to do.

Can the Chiefs win this game? They are a bad match-up for the Colts. Because Herm will get Johnson carries and they will control the clock. While the Colts can get away with a few mistakes the Chiefs will really have to play a near perfect game to win. The real key will be the job Trent Green does holding on to the ball. You know Johnson will have a good game, you know Peyton will have a good game. It all comes down to how well Trent Green plays.

Even with a dominant run game, the Chiefs won't be able to just outscore the Colts. Since they are not going to be consistently competitive on defense, they need to force a couple turnovers to win the game. Maybe Ty Law will step up and kill Manning like he has done in the past. I think its doable, but they are definitely still dogs and seven points sounds about right.

HOUSTON HOUSTON HOUSTON

Anyway, Chiefs suck on the road, granted. But Colts are certainly not on top of their game and ripe for an upset. Which force will prevail? Who knows. Best thing going for the Chiefs is the incredibly lucky way they made the playoffs. I'm telling you a few breaks go their way early, they will start to BELIEVE while a the opposite will be going on on the Colts sideline. And that's a powerful thing.

Oh yeah, and Trent Green getting knocked out of the game early would be a huge break for Chiefs. If Huard comes in, look out. Otherwise they'll only pull Green when/if he's made so many turnovers the game is out of reach. Which sucks.

Re: Chiefs vs Colts Thread

You can keep harping on the Houston game all you want but it isn't nearly as bad of a loss as you make it out to be. People want to act like the Colts are in the midst of some colossal collapse but the reality is that 2 of the games they lost were to some very long FGs at the buzzer.

suzzer99 01-04-2007 10:00 PM

Re: Chiefs vs Colts Thread

Losing to Houston at the buzzer is the equivalent of getting cobbered by a good team. All I'm saying is if the Chiefs get a few breaks early, things should be real interesting. Colts go up 14-0 - not so much. Now you could say that about most potential upsets. But I think this one even moreso with the Colts stumbling down the stretch and the Chiefs feeling a little charmed under Herm. We really really just need Green to severely sprain his ankle in the first series. That would be the biggest luck of all.

No it isn't. They are completely different things. Just like losing to a crappy Cleveland team on an OT FG isn't the same as getting your ass handed to you by a crappy Pittsburgh team.

Dude, you are way off. I'm not saying the Chiefs are that great. I'm just saying the Colts aren't either. Only question is which week Peyton's going to have his trademark miserable playoff game. I'm hoping it's this week.

And we are one of only 2 teams to beat SD. If the Chiefs are clicking they can hang with any team.

Yeah, it was just a way of having a friendly wager. Since I'm a colts fan and he is a chiefs fan it doesn't really make any sense to make a bet involving the spread because I don't care if the colts win by 1 or 21. At the same time, if we are ignoring the spread we can't be betting for real money because then Suzzer is getting a raw deal.
