Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
[ QUOTE ]
Most of the super high stakes players will eventually go broke, especially if endorsement opportunities fall off. The reasons are: 1. They overestimate their win rate. They don't realize how much Andy Beal and a few others contribute to it and they don't realize how tiny or non existent it is when they are playing in games without someone like that. 2. They don't know how to calculate required bankroll for a given set of win rates and standard deviations. For the games they play in they need ten million easy. 3. They can't drop down. The idea of playing all day to win $20,000 is almost impossible for them to deal with. And when they are forced to drop down they play too loose against the very tough competitors that they falsely think they can easily outplay. I have personally seen this downward spiral many times. But there are exceptions and Daniel may be one of them. [/ QUOTE ] What is difficult to understand? David is correct! KATHY |

Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
What's your point? If you can do those things you won't go broke...a lot of people can't so they do...which is what he was saying.

"especially if endorsement opportunities fall off."
"daniel n busto?" No. |
Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
Uh, seems to me that "most of the super high stakes players were super hight before the boom, so this is a pretty shortsighted statement.
Anyways, unless a small few are going to destroy the rest, obviously this statement is almost certainly unpossible. Is the rake going to grind them up? |
Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
David doesn't know what he's talking about. He can't play at that level so he makes up some excuse about how he doesn't play that level because it's mathematically incorrect. What a joke. He has no business commenting on this sort of stuff anyway.

daniel n busto? [/ QUOTE ] More like suffering a downswing, probably not even close to busto, just underolled at the current time for the ultra high stakes cash games. I would say the inability to drop down or being underolled is the biggest killer. I know I have a hard time dropping down stakes when I'm on a downswing, and I imagine it'd be even tougher for high stakes players who want to keep up an image or go for the quick score rush. |

Anyways, unless a small few are going to destroy the rest [/ QUOTE ] I think this is mostly the case. I'm pretty sure David's point that very few players are rolled for the game is also valid. |

ego?
David mentions that. KATHY |
Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
This is about the most true statement ever made about high stakes players IMO. Kudos David Sklansky.

Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
I believe it was Mike Caro who said, the number one reason good poker players go broke is "playing too high for their bankroll".
Makes sense: egos are too big! Kathy |
Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
Daniel, if you are reading these baords, and are indeed busto, I may be able to arrange for some kind of "staking" deal, whereupon you would play the saily $109 rebuys and $162nls on Pokerstars until you get back on your feet..Also there is a chance you might earn your way into some of the more prestigious and lucrative luve tourneys.

Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
BRUNSON: Once you lose your reputation in this business, that's it. It's over. When I was coming up through the ranks, not that many people carried a lot money of money on them. This was before checks and credit cards. Sometimes, all you had was your word. So, we gambled with each other based on trust. Now, in the upper echelon of gambling and poker, we deal in such big figures that you can't actually talk to people anymore about this, because they all think you're lying. No one believes the big figures we exchange, and the trust we have amongst ourselves. For instance, last month we were playing in a big poker game and -- I'm not going to use the guy's name -- he loaned this other guy in the game a million dollars. Finally, the game broke up and he turned and said to me, "Hey, I loaned that guy a million bucks -- and I don't even know his last name!" I told him, as far as I know, he's never done a thing wrong about money. So, you gotta' give him credit. But, he didn't even know the guy's last name! And, we all laughed about it. Of course, the guy made good on the loan. That's what I'm talking about -- that real gamblers can be trusted when they give their word.
Here is a quote from a Doyle interview - for all those with "stardust" in their eyes. KATHY |

Sounds like the argument of an arrogant player headed for Busto City. Why don't you provide a rational reasoning to rebut David's argument. |

Just someone who usually reads and doesn't post. I'm in my twenties so not a child but not very old. Basically sick of you filling the message boards with worthless drivel that would fit in better at a GA meeting

Re: Sklansky Quote=High Rollers
I dont understand why everyone has a problem with this poster that calls herself Kathy. If it's not interesting then just move on. If you think that it's irrelevant then just move on. I don't understand why you would want this poster banned. If you don't like the poster then don't read her threads. The comments are relevant to the discussion regarding the Jamie Gold situation.
