$200k win in 45minutes?

Anyone else get the most recent issue of Bluff magazine and read the article about the two guys living in Dallas who are 19 and 20? The author describes watching one of then six table for about 45min and win around $200k. Apparently it's not that unusual for him to win or loose amounts like that in sessions.

Is it just me or if you were doing this would you really want it documented in a magazine? I'm not saying I don't think it's possible but geez, I sure wouldn't want that fact, with my full name, my picture and approximately where I live (in a state/city where the local PD is cracking down on underground poker rooms in a BIG way btw) in a magazine.

So is it just me being overly paranoid? Interesting article and the guys sure sound like they're having a fine time - just hope that article doesn't bring them any unpleasant attention.

LOL ok then, I guess they HAVE been heard of and are in fact here and now. Glad to hear you pay your taxes, the IRS you don't wanna piss off. Assuming you don't piss off the feds, if some local cops get a hair up their ass are you 100% sure they can't take that article and go get a warrant to come kick your door down? ("Hey look, these guys are making a fortune playing poker on the internet which is supposedly not legal.")

And thats just law enforcement, don't even want to think about the criminal elements! I'm just saying man, who knows what evil bastards read Bluff magazine lol.

Nice article on you boys by the way - I live in Grapevine myself, don't feel too bad saying that here since I know so much about you lol. I play at a local underground place, Winstar and Vegas a few times. Did play on the Internet til friggin Party bailed on me. I've just started out this year (March) and am working on improving and moving up. You ever need anybody to buy you liquor, let me know lmao...

There are other poker sites apart from Party, I wonder how many people just plain dont realise this? A lot, I imagine.

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

I actually realize that there are other places - Stars, FTP, Doyle's, etc - I don't live under a rock. Just not bothered to try any of them out. I played very heavily while my underground joint was closed for the summer, congress freaked, Party bailed and underground opened back up about the same time. And I've just figured out Winstar is only like 45min from me if I don't drive all around a monkeys ass to get there.

Since it's my own thread, I don't feel bad hijacking it: Stars, FTP, Doyles or ? if I'm going to open an account at a new place with the idea to start small (1/2-2/4 to start and yes I know this isn't the right forum but this is where I'd like to work towards so it sorta IS the right forume) and work my way up?

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

Hey I started this thread and I want to holla too.

To answer someone's question about the point of my original question: I read the article, and it was interesting. It made me think something along the lines of: "If I was doing anything remotely like that I'd be uncomfortable with widely read publication with such specific information about my location, property, financial situation and daily activities in it." Maybe I'm a paranoid old fool...

And as long as I'm answering things, to the "newsflash online poker isn't illegal" comment. Newsflash, people get popped for doing lots of things that ultimately aren't illegal - why expose yourself to the problem when it's so easily avoided? Law enforcement can be unpredictable - and the activity we're talking about could involve local, state, federal and possibly international law enforcement - thats a [censored] of unpredictability. Why make yourself a target when you don't have to?

This whole topic makes me wonder if there are similarities between young pro athletes who gets a ton of money thrown at them and young successful pro poker players like yourselves. The difference is with athletes, they have a multi-million dollar business that has a vested interest in their long term success. With a young pro poker player family and friends want to protect you and you're obviously not morons which helps and puts you in better shape than a ton of the athletes, but it's not as systematic a process. Jesus I sound old... You kids be careful! lol

Now that I think about the article again, it mentioned you guys keep a stock of Johnny Walker Blue so you obviously have the whole underage drinking angle covered.

Holla balla, stmALBAAT (ship the money a little bit at a time because I'm not HS lol.)

Edit: And Merry Christmas to all by the way - holla at Santa if you see him in the street!

They might get arrested for suspicion of an illegal activity, but not solely "for things that are not illegal."

Links and sources please, otherwise please troll your paranoia elsewhere.

to make 200k, 300k + + + + + etc in online poker, you have to be smart as [censored]

[/ QUOTE ]

I wonder how true this is. Do you think it is possible for an averagely intelligent person, who is determined and very hard working, to be able to eventually beat 10/20 NLHE and above? What about 50/100 and higher?

trplthrt 12-26-2006 01:40 PM

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

I don't think you need to be an Einstein to be a tremendously profitable poker player. Obv you can't be a moron, the luckbox only works for so long, but there are plenty brilliant people who don't have other skill sets to make them good poker players and there is a marginal advantage at some intelligence of X that it no longer matters. I think average intelligence + hard work and devotion to the game can very much translate to profits at all levels.

Gregg777 12-26-2006 01:41 PM

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

10/20 yes, there are still plenty of bad players.

50/100 prolly requires too much adjustment for an "average" intelligence to beat regularly.

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

I'm really glad I asked this question because I've learned a great deal from the replies and only been called a paranoid troll once or so lol...

In case I wasn't clear, I'm happy for the young successful players and wish them nothing but continued success. I was interested in the mechanics of the whole thing and I now understand a great deal more about that and about the 2+2 connection and how valuable that can be.

Regarding the legal side, I will provide at least one link: http://casinogambling.about.com/b/a/256597.htm

Those guys probably didn't expect to be arrested. Yes, that's different because they are involved in sports betting but my point is at least somewhat valid and I'm not just randomly saying the government is evil or anything. Fact is the US has taken direct action against online gambling in the last few months. If you want to stick your head in the sand and refuse to notice what is going on, ok then. Feel free to call me all the names you like. I won't get into an argument about how law enforcement and/or the government works - I'm done replying regarding that aspect.

Thanks a TON for all the informative replies here! I'm very glad to be a part of such a great, helpful group of poeple.

Gregg777 12-26-2006 06:06 PM

Re: $200k win in 45minutes?

To think you are going to be arrested for something that is not illegal, is being paranoid, no matter how you interpreted my response.

The link you provided involves illegal activity.
