Alaska versus Montana

Montana is a wonderful state, but has been Californicated, including the laws and that includes: Kalispell, Whitefish, and the Flathead.

People move to Montana because they enjoy the beauty, the ruralness, then those "outsiders" want to "fix" what is wrong!

Alaska on the other hand, has sooooo much wilderness, and such a short summer season, there is no where else like it.

One can get "away" in Alaska, as far "away" as they want.

Alaska has more fish, bears, moose and other wildlife than Montana.

No comparison, if one ever gets the opportunity, go to Alaska!

One can always fly from Alaska back to civilization for a reminder on why they left!

Diet Coke vs Pepsi

Pepsi is a wonderful beverage, it's fizzy and sweet with a slight citrus taste. It really caught a break with the "Pepsi Challenge", where blind taste testers would choose it overwhelmingly over Coke.

However, most people say the Pepsi Challenge is rigged because it's only a sip, and will tend to favor the sweeter taste. Over the course of 12+ ounces, that sweetness becomes overbearing.

As I get older I find that I can't stand that sweetness at all. I'm not sure if it's because I'm more health conscious or if my tastes have just changed. But now I'm much more partial to Diet Coke.

It's also sweet, but a fake sweet (aspartame). Some say it causes cancer, sure, but I'm not too worried about it.

No comparison, if you're thirsty have a Diet Coke!

If you want real sugar, you can always just have a Pepsi once in a while!

I figured this was Ray's gimmick account trying to keep more people from visiting Montana.

Ray knows I lived in Montana.

There is no DEFENSE for the truth.

Even from a sociopath.

Spend a winter in Alaska and you'll start to prefer Montana quick. Being unable to start your car because the gas is frozen pretty much sucks.

As to OP, never been to Alaska, but everything I have heard about it would sway it over Montana. Although the Rockies are amazing. I am pretty happy I had a chance to live there. Right length of time as well (1 year LOL).

Not sure what you mean about the Californicaztion.

Check the temperatures in Alaska versus Montana and you will find they are similar, (depending where in Alaska), especially southeastern Alaska, might even be milder winters than Montana.

I spent the first 30 years of my life in Saskatchewan (right above Montana) and then 4 years in Anchorage (technically in Alaska.) Anchorage's winter temperatures are way milder than Montana/Saskatchewan, but much more snow in Anchorage. So I agree that Anchorage winters are overall much more tolerable.

The western part of Montana is being bought up by people from California. People in California made huge amounts of money and a killing on real estate gone wild and saw huge bargains on real estate in Western Montana, a lower cost of living, beautiful surroundings and started buying things. The biggest problem with this has been people from California not seeing eye to eye with the local people. That can range from just irritating to downright disgusting in some cases.

Very well stated. (re: Californicated)

Eastern Montana is way different than Western Montana.
Like Anchorage is not Alaska, but somehow is in that state.

My sister lives up in Anchorage and I visited there a couple of years ago. I was very ready to leave and get back to Montanan after a week there. And this is from a guy who always thought he would end up in AK.

Anchorage is a huge city compared to anywhere in Montana and was filled with far too many people who had weird attitudes. It was kind of like "I live in Alaska and YOU do not" kind of thing. Quite "snooty" for lack of a better word.

I would take living where I do in Eastern Montana over Alaska any day. But then again I am a bit different and I am sure a lot of folks would hate it where I am.

Oh, and for any Californians reading this, Montana Sucks, tell your friends!

Re: Alaska versus Montana

I would place Billings in Southeastern Montana.

Billings has Freeways that go by/around it.

Anchorage has one freeway, and it ends in downtown. One must go stop light to stop light to get through Anchorage and down to the Kenai.

Montana gave us Ray Zee (Ray is from Na Jersey), Loose Bruce, and the REAL Unabomber (from Lincoln - western side of the Rockies) Ted Kazinski (? spelling).

Anchorage gave us Perry Green - Alaska furrier.

Alaska, better fishing, more critters.

Alaska has the highest suicide rate of any state I believe.

Also, a freeway that goes through downtown seems dangerous.

I'll give the edge to Montana on this one.

I live in Fairbanks Alaska. If you can handle -45 and 18 hours of darkness then move here for sure. Also the girls are worse then Montana although to be fair ive only been to a couple towns there.

Plus I remember reading that the gender distribution is very skewed, like 60% male, although not sure when those statistics date back to.
However, despite their debatable looks, I'm sure women in both states are so hardened and tough they really f.uck the brains out of you - which imho compensates.

Anyone ever driven the Alaska Highway?

Montana is a large state. Alaska is a LARGER state, with few highways, one needs a float plane to get around Alaska.

Real estate is still a bargain in Alaska.

Montana has been Californicated!
