Getting staked at Stars 50/100, 100/200 and 200/400....who to avoid
A friend of mine with deep pockets is going to stake me in the bigger games at Stars. I know some of the players to avoid (IanJ, Newhizzle) but are there others that I should be particularly wary of?

Assuming this post is serious every player at 200/400 is going to cause you fits because you aren't familiar with the level of aggression they are bringing to the table. The games are just about always shorthanded and the "best" game is still tougher than the worst 50/100 and its not close. 100/200 looks to me like it sometimes plays closer to 2/4 and sometimes 50/100.

Re: Getting staked at Stars 50/100, 100/200 and 200/400....who to avoi
I think his point is that you will very rarely find people who play poorly on all streets. Most of the super aggressive opponents will give up value before the flop by playing too many hands but play very very well after the flop. This is of course difficult to play against shorthanded.

you can try to cross-stake me mike (i am assuming that means stake AGAINST me), but why would anyone give up that action if i would be such an easy mark? and why would i ever take such a request the wrong way? people underestimating me has been to my advantage.

i dont get the point of staking. what percent are you being staked? seems more profitable to beat up on 10-20 thru 30-60 with 100% profit.

Lately the 1/2 games have been v tough and many play pretty well. If you don't have much experience at these limits, get ready for some headaches when you start missing flops and get checkraised every freakin time.

You play a game if there are some weak players in it and play your hands well against whoever you're up against. You'll learn who's good and who's not with time. |
Re: Getting staked at Stars 50/100, 100/200 and 200/400....who to avoi
i think youll probably do fine. my initial post was just to be mean/joke around.
but there was some truth to it too. youre already being told by a few people that the games are tough. imo your best shot at being able to beat these games over time is to have earned enough playing smaller games to step up yourself (perhaps with someone taking a small piece of you). of course i cant fault you for finding someone willing to stake you, it is good to get your feet wet at some point. good luck, mike |

Bob,
What stakes do you regularly play right now? You'll get chewed up at 200/400 and quite possibly 100/200 but not as much. Who to avoid at 2/4: Everyone. There are no "fish" there, except a few notable exceptions that I am not sure people would want me posting. If you're going to avoid newwhizzle, you should avoid the stakes all together, he's pretty much the average player on there |

FWIW newhizzle is IMO one of the better lhe players I've played against. A few other names that I'd put in the tough category are offthenuts, mcsketch or several other people who's names aren't coming to my mind at the moment.

No need to get hostile for no reason, you've been 1 lining on these forums lately and having to explain myself for no reason is rather inconvinient. I hope you are going to realize it's kinda lame and adds nothing to the quality of the forums. Sorry that I've had to be somewhat ofa hypocrit and waste 2 replies on dealing with you. |

As of 4 months ago, I was told that those games are easier. I don't understand the disparity between what people say on 2+2 and IRL. It's to the point where my only conclusion is my friend has just been running well over several hundred thousand hands.

Re: Getting staked at Stars 50/100, 100/200 and 200/400....who to avoid
Bob, curious about this scenario. I thought you were playing mostly live, around 15-30. That's where most of your posts were from.
If you have been playing a lot online, it appears you haven't won enough to move up on your own. Unless you've been playing too low to make enough to move up that high. Which means the jump will be even bigger. Not saying you don't have the game or this is a mistake. Just wondering if there's any other reason, other than someone else's BR, to show your present level of play would be profitable online at 1-2. Other than you won't know till you try. Doesn't seem to jibe. Anyway, GL. If you haven't played on the site in a while, or better yet at all, I'm guessing you'll get off to a good start. |

Re: Getting staked at Stars 50/100, 100/200 and 200/400....who to avoi
Haha, my graph of like the last 4 weeks would make most people on this forum cry, and i know that most people here have been through a lot, i only run good vs. you pete...
Bob, start by playing the 1/2 almost exclusivley. I haven't played the 2/4 game there, however the 1/2 can be good pretty regularly and unless you have infinite confidence in your game, which no one who hasn't played these games regularly does, getting off to a good start against generally weaker players where more people take shots is the right play. McSketch, Quarterion(? its something like that), newhizzle are tough opponents, literally play in any lineup if Donald is playing tho. I don't know how he does it. |

Donald and LTP run hotter than the sun. If you play them, prepare for some serious pandemonium. |

I'm astonished that PokerBob thinks that the key to limit hold'em game selection is avoiding the best players. Can we give him the benefit of the doubt and move this thread to BBV?
