If you put some money on it and give me 5:1 odds on Pittsburgh, I'll bet any amount with you. Think about it, a mortal lock vs 1:5 odds!!! That's free money I'm offering you!!!

That would pretty solidly break your streak.

While on the subject of streaks, I grew up a 49er fan (mom's from that area) and have gotten sucked into the Steelers since moving here for grad school 3 years ago. I've got a 5-0 record when cheering for one team in the big game. My record isn't quite as stellar in the conference championships, however.

I'm going to predict Seattle 14 - 24 Pittsburgh. Your Super Bowl MVP - Jerome Bettis (though Roethlisberger will probably deserve it).

Here are what I think(hope?) will be the keys to the game:
1. coaching - Holmgren is good, but Cowher et al have clearly outcoached their opponents in all three games, in particular the last two.
2. Pittsburgh's ability to run - we haven't been able to run in the playoffs, this actually started dropping off after the Chicago game. Not sure what's going on, hopefully it will come back for the SB. The Steelers have shown that they can win without it but if they get the running game going and have the strong passing game of late it will be very difficult for Seattle to stop them.
3. Seattle's ability to run. Pittsburgh's only had 1 100 yard rusher against them all season. From what I've seen, Hasselbeck reminds me of Roethlisberger last season (albeit with less hair), solid quarterback doesn't make too many mistakes but not really the guy whose shoulders you want to put everything on. Alexander has had a great season so it should be a good matchup.
4. Seattle handling the blitz. Pittsburgh destroyed Indy with it and it was successful against Denver as well. If Seattle can't handle it, especially if their runnning game isn't working well, it will be very difficult to score.

Not sure if you're serious but in case you are, I think we're referring (at least I am) to the "How many points will Denver win by" poll and subsequent loss by the Broncos. Seattle winning would make your guarantee be fulfilled and thus your streak would be broken.

This is going to be a very close game, and it'll probably be soemthing like 28-24, or 35-31.

Indy's problem was Manning audibling til 1 second every play making it too easy for Polamalu et al to get a great jump on the snap.

Also to the original op, pretty clearly SEA by 10.

The worry I have is that we didn't run particularly well in that game. The inability to close it out with the run burned us there. Obviously the interception made the game much closer that it should have been but had Pittsburgh ran the ball well in the second half it wouldn't have been close anyway.

PS: one of the teams w/ a better front 7 happens to be the one Seattle will be playing Sunday.

The Patriots - at the end of the season, when they were finally healthy - had the best front 7 in the NFL.

I get that a lot, but more often than not I get to rub it in people's faces.

Seattle is very good at stopping teams in short yardage situations and stopping RBs behind the line. they give up a decent amount of long runs, but nothing preposterous. Neither Willie nor Jerome will have much success, but Willie might break one as is his nature to do so.

Set the O/U on Pitt's rushing yards on the first half.

that's very hard to do, especially given the way Pitt has come out throwing recently. I can only guess as to what their gameplan will be.

but, I'll play. somewhere around 50 is probably about right.
Seattle should have more. But that doesn't mean their front 7 is better.

Almost certainly under 50. Pit has sucked at running the ball for the last 5 or so weeks.

I expect them to get like 35~39 yrds.

That's the thing. Pittsburgh's running game simply isn't that good, or to put it another way - it's above average but usually doesn't factor heavily in the outcome of the game. The running game helps them win by running the clock out but most of the time they get the lead through their defense and their passing game. We've seen that so far in the playoffs.

Problem from Pittsburgh is that the Seahawks actually have a better running game than the Steelers do.

This game is going to come down to Roethlisberger vs. the Seattle Secondary. If Seattle's smart about it, they'll be able to put up 20+ on Pittsburgh; they scored at will against Carolina and put up a good showing against Washington, two great defenses. Pittsburgh is an entirely different thing, but teams have demonstrated a way to beat it using max-protect.

Carolina really looked like a broken team. SEA scored 37 total points in 2 games against the Redskins, 13 against Dallas, and 14 against Jacksonville, for an average of 16 PPG against these good defenses. really not that impressive. They put up a TON of points/stats in their 7 games against bad defenses, though.

This is so wrong. The Steelers "appear" to not be able to run the ball because the last 3 games have been against defenses that put 8 men in the box. The thought around the league (and very much so on this forum a couple months ago) was Ben couldn't a game with his arm.

Ben has proven he can and probably Seattle's biggest weakness in defense is pass protection. Because of this, I don't see Seattle packing the box. I see a lot of Cover 2 from Seattle, meaning the Steelers running game will have a ton of room to work with.

This is also why I think Jerome will have a big game. With < 8 men in the box, the Steelers want to run a power game.

I don't think they've been getting a 'lack of respect' any more than a typical SB underdog. the spread is fairly close, compared to recent SB's.

as for your question, it depends how they win. the Patriots beat the Rams as 14 point dogs - I'm not sure that made them a great team as much as it made them a team who played a great game. They were certainly not nearly as good as the great Patriots teams that beat Philly or Carolina.

it's also somewhat a question of semantics - what do you consider a 'great' football team to be? Is there one every year?

No, seriously, my question is if they will be considered a great team (not by me, but by public opinion at large).

As for them not getting disrespected...yeah, the spread is close, but its the 6 seed vs the 1 seed (granted, teh 6 seed is tremendous, and is the 6 seed only due to reg. season injuries, and they were favored on the road in the first round at the 3 seed, but still....)

Just wonderin what they gotta do....
