I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff please.
Stuff that's super good:
Califone Sufjan Stevens Rasputina Modest Mouse The Tie That Binds Last Days of April Interpol Postal Service/Death Cab/Ben Gibbard in general Bright Eyes http://geocities.com/tom10167/winamp.htm It's about 3k songs. I'm definitely not looking for anything in the electronic music field, and I'm not much interested in any rap, but if you have any good suggestions feel free to throw those out too. More mellow stuff the better. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff please.
M. Ward
Shins Beck (try "Sea Change" for mellow, acoustic-driven songs) The Elected |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
OK, I only have folk with the female singer/songwriter kind of thing, but the best as far as I'm concerned are Sia (Colour the Small One), Tina Dico (In the Red), Loud Rhodes (Beloved One).
Older indie: Curve (Come Clean, though some would say Doppelgänger) |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff please.
Thanks. I have most of that but there are a few new ones.

[/ QUOTE ] I did - I looked under S for Shins and now see they are under T. As for Beck, you only had two songs. I think you'll liked The Elected - it's a group formed from the two guitarists from Rilo Kiley, who you seem to like. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
if you like the type of music in this thread you should check out black rebel motorcycle club's "howl."

It is a pretty long list, who knows album names? I sure don't.
I wouldn't even know how to make a list of just albums in Winamp. |

[/ QUOTE ] http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1264967 That took me a couple of minutes thusly: 1. Run, Cmd 2. cd\mp3 3. dir /ad /on >> c:\temp.txt 4. Open with Excel, and kill all the date/time columns |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
Oh, though I suppose you need to have your mp3 dir arranged so that it's by album name :]

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
Recommendation #1 for you, sir: Jens Lekman. He's a pretentious and yet low-key indie folk rock artist.
After that, we have groups that fit multiple but not all categories: The National Sigur Ros Talk Talk Wilco Antony And The Johnsons Calexico Joanna Newsom Baby Dayliner Mobius Band Also, I'll second all of xorbie/Sephus's recommendations. |

[/ QUOTE ] You should just buy Fox Confessor Brings The Flood and Blacklisted. Both albums are solid throughout. If you are just looking for more singles, then check out Maybe Sparrow, Deep Red Bells, and Hold On, Hold On. EDIT: Also here's a treat: Neko performs Maybe Sparrow on Letterman. |

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff please.
I didn't see My Morning Jacket on your list. You need to download more Cursive.
Mock Orange mewithoutYou The Mars Volta (more than you have) Appleseed Cast (will be a must for you) Unwed Sailor Explosions in the Sky Sigur Ros (now now now) Don Caballero Andrew Bird (NOW NOW NOW!) Cool Hand Luke (they have some old screamo stuff, new stuff is mellow and incredible) Damien Rice Iron and Wine (more than you have) Owen (holy crap NOW!) American Football Ghosts and Vodka The Owls Elbow (you'll love them) Ween My Morning Jacket (as I said) |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
I skimmed through your list, so hopefully I don't recommend anything you already have. I'm into music that is more pop than rock, but here goes: A.C. Newman (part of the New Pornographers), Archer Prewitt, Architecture in Helsinki, Andrew Bird, Camera Obscura, Devin Davis, Islands, John Vanderslice, My Morning Jacket, Neutral Milk Hotel, Rogue Wave, The Essex Green, The Oranges Band, Voxtrot, and Young and Sexy.

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
My indie nerd friends suggest Amos Lee
I like My Morning Jacket so it might be too good for you. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
This is a very good list thus far. Some bands I noticed that hadn't made it yet that are in my collection are:
Belle and Sebastian The Beta Band Bloc Party Braid British Sea Power Broken Social Scene Clap your hands say yeah Doves The Editors Jesus and Mary Chain Lifetime My Bloody Valentine Minus the Bear Pavement The Smiths (this is very neccesary for true pretentiousness) Pele And thats all. I'm sure there are tons more but I don't feel like going through all my songs at the moment, so if you're interested just PM me and I'll do it later. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
devendra banhart (especially rejoicing in the hands)
joanna newsome (especially milk eyed mender) |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
Bruce Springsteen's 'Nebraska' is right up your alley.

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
"Bruce Springsteen's 'Nebraska'"
very familiar, i like. thanks. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff please.
In no particular order, admittedly many of these are mainstream indie-like sound, but then you get the added bonus of acceptance by the indiscriminate masses around you:
Warren Zevon Death Cab for Cutie Postal Service The Shins Interpol Radiohead Bloc Party Decemberists Not fitting the category but one of my favorites nonetheless Something Corporate, some nice Piano driven-rock with a pretty good edge to some of the songs. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
bah, xorbie, sephus, and zeebo covered nearly everything i would recommend based on the description in OP.
[ QUOTE ] Bruce Springsteen's 'Nebraska' is right up your alley. [/ QUOTE ] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] "Atlantic City" is one of my favorite songs, from anywhere or any time. |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
I totally back the Neutral Milk Hotel, the Mountain Goats, and the Emiliana Torrini recommendations.
Great Indie Soundtrack (and movie for that matter): Pumpkin Other Good Bands: Love Camp 7 The Clouds Thou Thirteen Senses Creeper Lagoon Olivia Tremor Control The Papercuts Portastic The Kinks The Merediths Spoon Also, I only saw one Velvet Underground song on your list, you definitely need more. And don't forget, if you want to be a true indie kid, you need to make sure everybody knows you heard of these bands first . |
Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
i admire your committment.

Re: I need more pretentious indie and more low-key folkish stuff pleas
