Greg Raymer Campaigning for Libertarian Party\'s Vice Presidential Slot

POKERNEWS.com Interview

Here's the key excerpt.

Bernard Chapin: Also, are you thinking of becoming a politician? If so, what kind of office do you desire? What types of positions would you support?

Greg Raymer: In many ways, I would not make a good politician, at least not the way the business of politics presently works in our country. I am not very good at compromising. If you convince me you are right, I will agree with you, but until you do, I will do what I think is the smartest thing to do. Having said that, I am currently talking to some people who run the Libertarian Party about the possibility of running to be the party's official candidate for Vice President of the United States. With a few exceptions, I would support the official planks of the Libertarian Party.

Yeah, its the fat that would hold him back, not the powerhouse of a party.

I would very strongly consider voting for him.

But I regularly vote for 3rd party candidates already.

Yeah, I was extremely pleased with this interview and very glad that Greg is so unpretentious that he would take the time to answer my questions.

BTW, I just was about to post this before leaving for work as I'm firewalled out of 2p2 there, but Dynasty beat me to it--man, you got to get up WAY early in the morning to beat him to the punch, lol. Thanks, Dyn.

Agreed--he's got my vote, and as many more that I can cast without getting caught.

Me too. Actually, I think I'll be voting LP forever now unless Ron Paul gets the nomination.

What the Hell ? Let\'s put our money where our hearts are ....

... I suggest that we throw some money at the Libertarian Party if they nominate Greg for VP.

This would raise the issue.

Stars is better than party in terms of support, software and leadership. When poker becomes legal Stars will be bought by MGM and then they will be #1 until they mess it up.

Raise the issue? LOL.

Anyone who cares about poker is already aware of the issue. The rest of the world wants us out of Iraq, wants gas prices to fall, wants Lost to have a better storyline, and does not want to see Britney's c-scar anymore.

I admire Greg for considering politics but find it highly questionable that someone with ZERO political experience (correct me if he has been on a school board) would consider the office of Vice President of the United States as his entry into the world of politics. Start with Congress or something in State government.

I love Ron Paul but he's a Republican. I know that he is really a LP guy but ran as a Republican so what I was saying is that if he runs for the Presidency then I would vote Republican.

When was the last time you saw this issue in the national media ? Are you relying on the PPA to carry your water ?

What have they done since the days before the election, what do they plan to do ?

I'm surprised at how many people so easily vote for the Democrats and Republicans, neither of whom has shown any ability to get the job done right for decades. I realize government is always messy, no matter who's in charge, but seriously, both of our major parties just suck nowadays.

We have a history in this country of there generally being two major parties, and few if any third parties with any semblance of power with the electorate. However, we also have a history of a third party rising up and taking over one of the top two spots. It hasn't always been the Democrats and the Republicans running things, and it is time for a new party to step up and become one of the real players. I am hoping the Libertarian Party will be that new party who gets some power and steps up to the plate. Although I do not agree with every plank of the official LP platform, I do agree with most of them, and their platform and philosophy are MUCH better than the blues or reds.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Is the Libertarian Party still off the ballot in NC? I remember gathering almost 1000 signatures in '04 and then being super pissed when they didn't get to stay on the ballot. That was the day I decided not to care about politics anymore
