Live $500 buyin weekend table
$500 buyin live 1/2 PLO game. All the players except me straddle for 5 utg so it is really a 1/2/5 game. Rake is $12/hour collected on dealer shifts. I say this because the players have a mind set of playing everything to get their "bang for the buck." They want to see as many flops as possible.
We are playing 9 handed and I am the only one folding things preflop if there is no raise. It is rarely raised and if it is raised (3-8bb typical), the pot becomes 20-50bb pretty fast and 3-5 see a flop. My question is should I be calling with 95% of my buttons and cutoffs and just be playing position or stick to my late position raising? The typical problem I have been having is having position with AKQJ or something like that on a K7c2c flop with 6 players in it. I'm more used to the "half the table folds preflop" type of game with other moves mixed in. How do you guys adjust? |
Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
straddle.

Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
Why? They found me an irritant by not willing to round preflop bets to nearest $5. I also didn't want to automatically throw in 2.5bb for playing a multiway pot out of position.
Honestly this is nothing like online or WSOP omaha and I was asking for advice. I know I need to loosen up pf but what kind of percentages would you say you would change to? |

Purchase a bus. Get everyone on the bus. Drive them to VALUETOWN. $$$ Also, straddle you nit. |
Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
I mississippi straddle when it is available but I never understood the utg straddle. How can that be a profitable play? Would you want to pot it with AA utg after you got the whole table to limp? They are still capable of sniffing aces. See above with the K72 flop and say my hand is AAKQ. With 4 to the flop it still is not that exciting. I would say that K72 is the BEST kind of flop, more realistically it would be 37t.

If it's as bad as it sounds, you could probably profitably play most hands in position, and I'd be willing to limp in LP quite a bit with speculative hands. |
Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
straddle, round the bets up to the next $5, play a lot of hands in position (either raise or call), not 95% though. Or move down in levels.

Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
The game is in Indiana. We did all round the bets to the nearest $5.
Fun and gambley for them was speed. As long as it wasn't taking too long they were ok with things. They wanted to maximize the number of hands dealt every hour. |

Pete beat me to it.
I think NOT straddling is -EV, its $5 and last option vs. looking like a nit and being ostraized by the rest of the table. I know my game becomes a straddle game most of the time. It can be a good way to see who is comfortable playing higher and who isn't. Edit: Why was the time charge such a big deal? $6/half hour is standard. If they were straddling you should have been playing time pots too....gamble gamble. You made a big deal about rounding too!! give action to get action, [censored]. |
Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
Dont straddle, just raise the straddle blind before the cards are dealt from time to time if they allow it, this reeeaally gets the gambooling going.

Re: Live $500 buyin weekend table
Climber, I played OH for the 1st time at Caesars last week. Had 1/2/5 blinds (forced, no strattle). A great game. I could learn to like it more than 2/5 NLH.
