Bad beats after withdrawal

Ok, so let me just start off by saying that i really dont know if this is true or not, but i just wanna report what i have experienced and hear if any of you have experienced the same thing. I have been playing regularly online for about 3 years and i have been at one of the major online poker rooms for about a year now. I like this room because it has been very profitable for me, but there is a strange problem i just cant get over. I seem to hit long strings of bad beats for a few days to a few weeks after withdrawal. This has happend to me more than a dozen times. To make sure it wasnt in my head i decided to go back through all my records and make a list of the dates of my withdrawals. Sure enough, i see that they all come at peaks in my profits. I usually play tourneys, and it looks like i average a drop of about 20 buy ins after withdrawals. Lately it has been more. Now I'm not crying foul. yet. I have still made a good amount of $, but i just wanted to know has this happend to anyone else out there?

Yes,its called the Doomswitch, and its purpose is to punish you for taking your cash out of a given site. Now Doomswitch`s vary greatly from site to site. Some are auto, some are manual and activated via remote. But make no mistake about it,every site has one.

Doomswitch is common knowledge amongst most experienced players. It's built into the programming. Players, however, have found a couple of ways to counter-act doomswitch. For the next few sessions after a cashout, you should do the following:

1. Fold all pocket aces, kings, and queens. This is the biggest one. Doomswitch makes you lose about 80% of these.

2. Watch out for when you hit a set. Doomswitch often makes your opponent have an over set. When you hit a set, you are better off just folding.

3. While doomswitch does make hands like AA losing hands, it also has the opposite effect on weaker hands. Thus, if you start playing hands like 52o, you'll find your results improving.

The secret to circumventing the doom switch is very simple my friend............

After you make your withdawal of $500 or $1,000 or whatever the amount.....................make a DEPOSIT of $20 whether you need the money in your account or not..... Do this before you play another hand.

Why is everyone on this forum so damn sarcastic? A person has a legitimate concern, and no one can take the time to offer a genuine response? That happens to me too often here, and it is frustrating. I realize we are all poker players, and on the tables we are not comerades. But it seems like this forum should be a more welcoming place to share your thoughts.

I have not paid attention to whether my swings hit after withdrawals, but I see no harm in looking into it, or even doing something silly like making a tiny deposit - even if all it does is calm your superstition, it might help change your luck!

Sasha, to give you an honest, non-sarcastic response...

We get posts like this every day. Intuitively, you and I know that the cashout curse doesnt really exist (sorry guys, it was fun while it lasted). Rather than typing out a bullet list of reasons why, it's just easier to play into the idea until the OP realizes how foolish it all sounds. The same result is accomplished in the end.

If you've ever hung out with a group of guys, you should know you're going to be given a hard time if you say something dumb (or even if you dont). It's kinda like that, just shrug it off. In the end, nobody really cares. 2+2 will be a lot more fun for you if you learn not to take everything so personally.

Nice excuse but that does not make it a good thing and is basically just being rude. The problem is many 2+2ers have forgottin what it was like when they started playing online.

What seems like a dumb question for somebody with 1/2 million hands under their belt is a valid concern to somebody with 5000 hands.

I don't want to be a Party Pooper (altough the thought of pooping on Party is entertaining) but why make a new player feel foolish. It's like flaming a fish. -EV.

To the question. This is guess but I bet when you cahs out you have more money, much more money then you did when you LAST cashed out. So, you were HOT. Then mother variance hits and you go into a losing streak. After a while you get hot again, make a lot of money and at the high point cash out. You probebly do not cash out at the low points.

Just a theory.

webster - the original poster said he has been playing for 3 years and is a winning player...yet still believe this stuff is probably happening to him.

And obviously the best remedies are to either NEVER cash-out.
Or to play a bunch of $3 SNG's right after cashing-out to get your 'cashout downswing' out of the way at the lowest stakes possible.
Then, the site will decide that you are allowed to be a winning player again and you can move back up to the $1000 SNG's.

I seriously do deposit immediately after a cashout.

Forget leaving some in, I cash it ALL out and start over.

Because nearly every single time, like 20 out of 22 that I leave some in and try and rebuild, it goes to hell in a handbasket and I have to reup anyways.

You're right, the Doom Switch Theory is very real. My doom switch toggles when I tell my wife how well I'm doing. I have a friend whose doom switch snaps when he decides -- before cashing out -- to commit some of his bankroll to a real-world expense.

Yet another player has told me his doom comes when he jumps up a level.

It is rigged -- in your head.

first off let me say that i have been playing online for a long time. although i am far from a major player i make enough to support myself and keep me in school with no loans and poker as my only job.
look i understand people being very skeptical about this, i also used to always roll my eyes at people who would bring up something like this, but i have had it happen too many times for it to be just coincidence. now im tottally open-minded, i know there is a chance that something psychologically [censored] up my game after i withdrawal, but i also know that the last ten withdrawals ive had have had a losing streak after them that has been larger than what could just be accounted for by variance. This is very real. If it were just variance, it would not come right after withdrawal more often than a win streak. Now the question for me right now is: is this a result of something im doing or something the site is doing? So, to those of you who think it is this "doomswitch" why? And to those of you who think my problem is my play, do you have any advice? please keep sarcasm to a minimum

no, your losing streaks are not larger than what could be accounted for by regular variance.
You are just assuming that it is.

[ QUOTE ]
If it were just variance, it would not come right after withdrawal more often than a win streak.

[/ QUOTE ]

same deal. You don't know that it's just variance.

[ QUOTE ]
And to those of you who think my problem is my play, do you have any advice?

[/ QUOTE ]

sutdy your game, improve, get better.

Try to put these ideas that you are destined to lose post-cashout behind you.
It's ridiculous.

However, it's possible you are onto something when you say that your play is perhaps different somehow post-cashout and that it is somehow NOT just variance.
So really look hard at your play and consider even posting hands.

But, the fact is that there is a lot of variance in poker even if you are a winning player.
Every player has hot-streaks and cold-streaks.

It stands to reason that most players will cash-out after a hot-streak. Afterall, if you're in a cold-streak then you aren't going to have much to cash-out in the first place.

It also stands to reason that your hot-streak is bound to end sooner or later and that you aren't going to continue to run at 6BB/100.

Since most people cash-out at some point during a hot-streak, and since that hot-streak is not likely to continue anyway, then doesn't it make sense that you may just happen to be cashing-out just as your hot luck was not likely to continue anyway?

You could look at it backwards too if you wanted:

I always have a hot-streak right BEFORE I cash-out.
Therefore, I'm going to cash-out more often so that those hands I play PRE-cashout are more likely to be winners.

Woo-hoo!!! LOL CrappyLogicaments.
