Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
The last 2 hands he keeps repeating some nonsense about coolers.
Hand 1- DN has JdQd. Sexton has KQ. Flop K84 2 diamonds. they end up all in. Hand 2- DN has JQ. Sexton has AA. Flop T84. All-in again. How do these hands meet the definition of coolers????? |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Typical DN comments trying to make his failures seem beyond his control. I noticed this particular case as well. He kept calling pre-flop raises, pushing draws and then claiming he got coolered. I thought it was pathetic, even for a clown like Daniel.

Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Those were two hands out of the hundred(s?) they played. It looked bad the way it was cut on tv, but that happens.
|
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
yea, i think he tries to validate some of the plays he makes by stating too many coolers...some of these are just bad plays and some are just luck not going his way, but they're not really terrible beats...

Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
It was mentioned here somewhere that they had lots of situations where Negreanu had a good hand but did'nt get anything out of it because Sexton had nada. Then they had a lot of hands where Sexton had great hands, and Negreanu had very good, second best, hands. |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Others have stated it but Danny likes to blame anything else but his play when he gets in those situations. He is not a blatant whiner like Hellmuth, Matusow and others but he in his mind it has the same effect.

Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Anyone get the feeling that the more you see him on TV the more you start to dislike him ?? He used to be my favorite now I find myself rooting against him ... just to much talking and rambling it's become very annoying.

He gets away with a lot of low-class stuff because he supposedly is good natured in doing it. Like when he slow rolled David Williams with AA on the WPT (Did you say all in?) or when rubbed the bluff in Freddy Deeb's face when he bluffed him off TPTK in PS1 (If I show a bluff is it good for the game? That's good for the game!). |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Ya I've also grown annoyed with daniels table talk and general demeanor.
|
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
Also in his blog talking about all the bad beats he lost in HSP but you never see him talk about the horrible calls he was making like the 9 10 calling a big all in on a board of A Q J 8 8 or his insta calling with JJ when Greenstein had AA ... plus the many others. He NEVER mentions those bad calls as he proceeds to rant about how unlucky he gets.
|
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
I too have grown to dislike DN. I have talked to a couple of people who have met him who say he is a really nice guy, but I dont see it at the tables.
I am glad someone else mentioned the slow roll he did at a WPT event. That was horrible. Also, the way he treats players like Matusow and Hellmuth. How he kept repeating Yum Yum when Hellmuth sat down, very arrogant. Did you guys notice how Doyle kind of put Daniel in his place as he was doing that? How about when he asked Deeb how much he went south for, and the said that he wasnt accusing Deeb of anthing. Right. Also, what about they way he ripped Leonidas, DeWolfe and Gordon in his blog about how they played the live event. It would be one thing if he went over how he may have played it differently, but instead all he talked about was how horrible the play was and how he would have cleaned up. Another showing of his aroggance. I guess it wouldnt bother me so much if he didnt try to market himself as this great guy. There are other players who are bigger jerks than DN, but they dont try to hide who they are. |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
danny N. really isn't playing well these days. I could take him.

Evidently no one has told Norman Chad, who still has a big crush.

lots of armchair qb's on this thread.

Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
anyone see after the tunica event Dn won when norman chad asked him if that win meant he was once again one of the top players in the world (dumbazz question to begin with)...DN was like, "well when wasn't I one?"
I'm not gonna judge the guy on his play haven't seen enough of him, but that comment whether it is true or not just reeked of arrogance IMHO. G |

He could try the false humility thing, but for a guy who pretty much wears his heart on his sleeve about everything it wouldn't fool anyone. I can see why people wouldn't like him, but at the end of the day he really treats this thing like a game and something he does to have fun. And if people hate that, I guess he wins anyway because he's having a good time no matter what anyone thinks. I'd rather watch and play with someone like DN who tries to have a good time than the super-serious players who never say a word except to berate other players for their poor play. |

[/ QUOTE ]This is probably a different strokes for different folks kind of thing, but for me poker is best when it's a social game. I really enjoy the games where I can chat with other people and have a good time. I'm guessing a LOT of poker players (especially losing ones) are like this, and that is probably one of the reasons DN is so popular. |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
What I find annoying about DN is this "good natured" thing. He is making jokes to see how his opponents react to it. That's not "good natured", that's some form of angle shooting, because he does it intentionally. He is not really a funny guy, he just wants to extract tells from you.
|
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
I think it's more like DN is naturally talkative, and he has found a way to make it +EV. That's no different from Sklansky taking his natural mathematical abilities and using them for whatever he wants, is it? Of course he's trying to win, and I can't believe any poker player would find something ignoble about that.

[/ QUOTE ]Trying to induce tells is angle shooting? Is trying to hide tell angle shooting as well? That's all a part of the game. But DN is totally conistent in his demeanor at the table and off. He isn't hamming it up just to get some tells, though he probably is using his natural tendencies to do that. Also, I'll bet in many ways he uses his "good nature" to get people off their guard so he can take their chips. Nothing new about that either- in fact I can recall a couple 2+2 books where the authors strongly advise not taking actions that will clue your opponents in to the fact that you are "thinking about the game". You'd rather them think it's a social outing for you, just like it is for them. I think DN has this same affect on people. I chat it up all the time with donks at tables. Shoot the breeze about whatever they want to talk about. It's fun, keeps the game more interesting, and it puts them off guard as to the way I think about the game. None of that is angle shooting in the least. |
Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
I agree that this is not angle shooting for sure. I think DN is a combination of smart and irritating. He does know what to say to some of these players with stars in their eyes. More often than not he does get information.
But he is irritating when the cameras and lights are on and he feels compelled to talk us through a hand time after time. It never fails that no matter what hand someone shows, Danny has to proclaim, "I thought you had that." Now, as an aside, the best pro at using his table talk to influence others is Marcel Luske. I have witnessed him hypnotize star-struck players into doing what he wants them to do, just through charisma. It is something to see. |

Re: Negraneau at TOC \"Too many coolers.\" WTF???
DN is obviously an excellent player, probably not as good as his run in 2004 (I think) made him look, but he is a top notch player. He makes incredible reads, and a majority of the time when attempting to put a player on a hand he puts them nearly on the exact hand not just a range.
However, I admit at times he seems to lack class, or be demeaning to other players. I still like DN and just attribute it to all the pressures and demands on him. I mean the guy is probably 50% poker player and 50% businessman at this point. |

Thought he was interesting initially, but as he goes on and on and whines whenever something goes against him, and denigrates the player playing against him, it's just sad. (though his ranting at the High Stakes Poker season when he kept flopping the nuts and then losing on the draws was more than understandable.) |
