Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

Wondering if anyone has any more information on this? All I can find is a TV listing and this from "Poker on TV":

"Fox Sports' next live broadcast, Championship at Red Rock, airs from 6 to 10 PM on Thanksgiving Day. They run it again at 11:30 PM. Their live broadcasts have declined in quality over time (the first one was an actual open tournament while subsequent ones have been made-for-TV events), but they remain among the best poker shows on TV. You will get to see every hand of this seven-person single-table-tournament."

I have it as "FullTilt.net Poker Championships" or some such, airing 3 hours on FSBA starting at 4pm.

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

The event will run live from 6-10pm EST and then will be rerun from 10:30pm-2:30am.

The players will be Erick Lindgren, John Juanda, Phil Gordon, Allen Cunningham, Toto Leonidas, Roland DeWolfe, and an amateur who qualified online. I believe at least six qualified online on FTP and will be playing down to one today.

I am really interested to see how the amateur plays against the pros. This should really be interesting.

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

Oh, if your curious how they picked which pros would play, they had a series of six handed tables and the winner advanced to today's event. These table were shown on Fox Sports Net over the past six weeks.

Thanks for the information. Too bad my local FoxSports channel didn't show any of these weekly tournaments -- at least they are showing the one tonight!

They likely did and you did not watch them, they are a nationwide programming. I have all foxsports channels and they were always on saturdays.

On FSN NY, they were usually on late Saturday night or Sunday afternoons.

SPOILER WARNING -- DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE LAST 3 PLAYERS

What did Phil Gordon write on his note he passed to Roland DeWolfe? My guess is he suggested they get a room at the Resort when the tourney ended. Seriously, could he have suggested a deal if/when they eliminated Toto Leonidas? Doubtful, since there was no way of knowing the chip counts if that happened. What else could he have written?

Roland just showed it to toto so iono

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

I suspect it might have been a deal that was made between Gordon and Toto while Roland was in the Confessional.

Either that, or Phil Gordon wants him to check a box indicating whether Roland likes him or not.

BigBluffer 11-23-2006 10:38 PM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

When they had Gordon in the confessional, I wish they had asked him what he wrote to DeWolfe. Chicken reporting.

It's time to slip in the cooler deck to get this thing over with.

Is Toto busto in real life? Does he need the money that bad to play like such a tight ass 3 handed.

Every tournament I have seen with Toto, he plays like a maniac. What gives?

Maybe because only top two places pay.

That would explain the tight play three-handed, but Toto's been invisible nearly the whole tournament. Konig also mentioned that tournament cashes have been dry for him the last couple of years, FWIW.

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

I loved this show. But I'm a Gordon fan and really wanted to see him win. And sometimes I wished they would shut up and let us listen to the table talk. Sometime I'd like to see a broadcast where they put the action on the screen and dispensed with analysis/play-by-play. Good play all around, except for Toto's too-tight play. He's the last person I ever expected to say that about.

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

The note written by Gordon that had no follow-up or even discussion was terrible broadcasting. Then De Wolfe (sp?) whispered something to Gordon too, no idea what. The possibility of a split without our knowledge is irritating. I hate FSN.

BigBluffer 11-24-2006 07:20 AM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

That whispering really raised my eyebrows too. Between the note-passing and the whispering, even the appearance of impropriety could put the integrity of the tournament in question by some viewers. I'm certainly wondering. ESPN or the WPT would never show that stuff in their edited tourneys. Does crap like that go on at other tournaments?

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

Deal making is common practice in many tournies. TV poker shows make every effort to not show anything about it so to not decrease the drama. I wish they would be honest with the viewers and let us know if a deal was struck or not.

BTW, I Tivo'ed this and it cut out at the 4 hour mark. Who won?

Kevmath 11-24-2006 11:40 AM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

Phil Gordon won last night.

Thanks. When it cut out there were about even again.

luvrhino 11-24-2006 12:10 PM

Gordon confirms deal

Phil Gordon's playing $.05/$.10 at FullTilt right now. I asked him what the note was and whether or not it was a deal:

[ QUOTE ]
luvrhino (Observer): Hello. I realize that this may have been asked, but has Phil explained what that note to Roland was last night?
...
luvrhino (Observer): Was there a deal made?
Phil Gordon: directions to my house for thanksgiving dinner
ggnoobs: haha
Phil Gordon: or, we might have done a "deal" when we got threehanded...

[/ QUOTE ]

Later he said, "normal in that situation when the blinds are so high." I didn't try pursuing the terms of the deal. However, i think it's clear from Toto's play that playing for 2nd was still significant.

For the average fan, seeing every hand is probably very boring television but I personally loved it and would like to see more of the same.

Strong agreement. Not seeing every hand is the biggest letdown of televised poker. I really enjoyed this tornament because of this aspect.

BigBluffer 11-24-2006 01:27 PM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

Agreed. I think the live tourney coverage was infinitely more interesting than watching the highlight reels put out by ESPN or WPT. Would love to see more of these.

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

anyone know who won it? i didn't get a chance to see it live, and on the replay, they cut to another show right at the 4 hour mark (when heads up was about even between Gordon and deWoolf).

LasVegasMichael 11-24-2006 02:55 PM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

That happened to me as well, as I tivo'ed it. A few posts up it was posted that Gordon went on to win it (there was a deal struck as well but that was kept off camera).

Why would P. Gordon make a deal when he has a billion dollars in the bank?

Slim Pickens 11-24-2006 05:21 PM

Re: Full Tilt live at Red Rock on Thanksgiving

In general, the quality of play was far above what I was expecting (a la PSII) with pros playing in shortstacked SNGs. Phil seemed to have the 6-max, pays 2, game down as well as anyone. Eric's 27% PFR after 20-something hands was maniacal. I'm a little disappointed they never got down to true pushbot stacks three-handed, but I know everyone else would hate that and complain.

Overall, that was a pretty solid broadcast for being live, although Koning should stick to English. Toto just looked confused.

That seems unlikely unless he's made some monster investments. The company he worked for that was sold to Cisco was for $95 million and he only owned part of it. Plus he gave a lot of it away. I've no doubt he is exceptionally comfortable, but a long way from a billion.

I disagree. This one had some actual poker playing, not just a luckbox getting monster after monster.
