Most famous person in the world

Based on the Oprah vs fiddy thread. Who do you think is the most famous person in the world? ie picture or name recognition or the largest % of the entire worlds population. Answers for both real and fictional.

I'll propose Jesus, Mohammad, Tiger Woods, George Bush, Osama Bin Laden, Micheal Jackson, Ronald McDonald and Santa to get things started.

I'm pretty sure Ronald scoops it, but I haven't seen much press on him in the last few years, so I could be living in the past.

Jesus and it's not close. Make it the most famous person alive and there might be some room for discussion.

Jesus, not close?

Jesus FTW. He is a figure in the Qur'an as well as the Bible. Wouldn't this be a lot more interesting if we stuck with living people?

Re: Most famous person in the world

jesus? are you serious? can we exclude people who nobody even knows what they might have looked like? the idea of including jesus is even more retarded because the image that most people associate with his name is clearly not even close to what he might have looked like if he did exist.

including jesus makes as much sense as including santa.

I did include Santa, and also said we should have one for real and one for fictional, by which you can include Jesusif you wish.

For years it was definitely Ali, but I don't know if that still true. I wouldn't be suprised if it was now Woods.

Except Santa isn't fictional. The Jesus we know today has about as much common with the original Jesus as Santa has got to do with Saint Nicholas.

And anyway, the correct answer to this is obviously Patrik Antonius.

Op has named possibly the best ones but I'll throw in the following:

Kim Jong Ill, Saddam Hussain, Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandella.

It probably comes back to Bush V Osama.

I think golf is virtual non-entity in many parts of the world.

Every country has boxing and soccer.

At this point David Beckham is probably more famous world wide than Tiger Woods is.

Yeah, Beckham's a good shout. The only place where he's not as massively famous as he is everywhere else is the US.

Arnold Schwarzenegger?

David Beckham.

Probably 50% of all OOT'ers won't even know who he is, but you're the minority. The rest of the world does.

Lol what a joke.

Re: Most famous person in the world

MJ ofcourse, LBJ is sick huge in China atm, there is a nike ad with him in it on every tv channel atleast once or twice an hour every day. But hey probably doesn't have the worldwide accolations that MJ did. Beckham, Ronaldo are ofcourse huge. George Dubya must be up there. Mao Ze Dong is a fairly worldwide name (I guess). Then you have names like Leonardo Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Neil Armstrong.

Philosophers like Confucius, Plato, Socrates.

JC & Buddha are famous images of some representation of a person.

Cleopatra and Julius Ceasar.

Anyway i'm sidetracking on people who are well known as opposed to recognisable. This is undoubtably Michael Jackson. Even the communists like him.
