Re: Anyone live in Baltimore?

The standard answer is the Inner Harbor. Lots to do around there, and it's one of the nice areas of Baltimore. The Canton area is pretty fun too. What time of the day are you gonna be there? What are you looking to do?

tboss888 11-13-2006 04:55 PM

Re: Anyone live in Baltimore?

Probably just grab dinner and maybe check out a couple bars.

Ok, then I would suggest Canton or Inner Harbor. The Inner Harbor is a pain in the ass. It's expensive and there are always a ton of people out around there. Canton is less expensive and has a better crowd IMO.

Serious answer: Brewer's Art

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, and the surrounding neighborhood.
Itinerary: (Assuming Weeknight)

Brewer's Art for happy hour
Dinner at Dionysis (fine dining), Minato (sushi), Sasha's 527 (tapas) or The Helmand (Afgan)
Drinks at Club Charles, the Owl Bar at the Belvedere, or the basement bar at Kumari's (or if you like more clubby atmospheres: XS, Red Maple and the 13th Floor.

If you want a real (read: White Trashi) version of Bmore go to Hamden: Buy some arty porn at Atomic Books and a novelty record at True Vine... shop for junk at one of the junk stores, eat at Suzie's Soba or Golden West, then drink heavily at Dimitri's, the Hon Bar, and Holy Frijoles. Hopefully it'll be karaoke night at Fraziers, if they still have that.

Don't go to Fell's Point, whatever else happens.

Everything I need to know about Baltimore I learned from David Simon.

As such

1- score some smack
2- get shot
3- find somebody to say "maybe could" "too" (in that very b'more specific accent) and "SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET".

Don't get shot. Please post to confirm after visiting baltimore you are indeed not shot.

Re: Anyone live in Baltimore?

People go to the basement bar at Kumari? I eat there all the time but the basement looks like a tiny dark little bar with 3 stools.

Red Maple is good though, definitely second that one. Brewer's for dinner/beer and Red Maple for drinks/dancing seems like a good plan.

Also, stay the fk out of Hampden, and this is coming from someone who lives there.

It is tiny, but really awesome for some reason, at least on the random night I was there...full of drunk art students and wizened crazy cab drivers.

Red Maple is way to pretentious for me, plus you can't really dance there. If OP truly wants to get his club on, Sonar on friday night has been berry berry good to me. But it's a long cabride from Mt. Vernon.

The downstairs bar at Dionysis rules too.

The Red Maple is a terrible vibe. Its a snoody martini bar. I walked in wearing jeans and it was like the music screached to a halt. When you walk in, its stadium seating against the back wall so everyone can stick their nose up at everyone who walked in.

Power Plant is pretty cool to check out. Howl at the Moon is a decent dual piano bar thats got a great bar vibe. I dont know how these places are during the week.

Sorry, missed the joke here. I thought he was some Baltimoron questioning my spelling because he's heard it pronounced "Hamden" his whole life and thought it was actually spelled that way. I've missed the past few Wire eps, need to catch up. Carry on.

Actually, one small addendum. The food at Hon Cafe is overrated, except for the pie. If you must eat there, just sit at the counter and have a slice.

Stevie, yeah, the food is def. overpriced/overrated at Cafe Hon but there are a lot of young hot waitresses.

Re: Anyone live in Baltimore?

Cafe Hon...now that brings back memories. Last time I was there for dinner (food has taken a turn for the worse over the last few years), the neighboring table was occupied by an 80-ish year old lady who ordered 3 fuzzy navels and a glass of whole milk. That's it. You run into some characters in Hampden. (There's a fantastic donut shop nearby, though, or at least there was ten years ago).
