10 Best Books

I have a cousin who, due to a car wreck will be more or less bed ridden for the foreseeable future. Reading is one of the few things he can do that he enjoys. I would like a list of 10 poker I can send to him. I already will be sending him SSHE and the Theory of Poker. What else would you guys reccomend.

Thanks
Jb

Positively Fifth Street, and both of Michael Konik's books, are way more entertaining than you would think.

Re: 10 Best Books

Stu Ungar Story

Broke : A Poker Novel

Banker and Suicide King

Winning Secrets of Poker (Great book)

PokerFarce and PokerTruth

Lessons from the Pro Poker Tour

Positively Fifth Street

Poker Passion

Poker Essays 1,2,3 (Just one will do)

Tournament Poker and the Art of War.

Theory of Poker

That's my list and baby let the flames come because I am pretty ashamed of every single person who replied to this thread.

The dam kids cousin was in a car wreck and likes to READ... the very least you people can do is help the guy books about poker that will entertain him in his hour of need.

I'll be honest if I got hurt real bad and some idiot told my cousin to buy me the mathmatics of poker to read while I was lying in bed at home I'd punch him in the face the second I was healthy.

With the exception of PokerFarce and Truth and Mason Malmuths Poker Essays I can't think of a 2+2 book that is not a dry read.

Now before the flame nits come at me again.... I've made NUMEROUS POSTS that there is no better source of poker knowledge in the world than 2+2 books.

But if 90 % of you are recommending books on standard deviation math formulas, Probability Charts, etc etc to a sick kid who was in an accident you are just trying to peddle books and don't care about giving the sick kid a read.

NOW ONE LAST POINT if the OP had said his friend was looking to improve his poker game and wanted to sit in bed studying formulas until his body healed (which I don't see at all) Then yes my books would suck and your would be correct.
Your books are all better for strategy but mine are better for the sick kid.

Have a heart 2+2 ..... Have a heart

I tend to agree with the last poster and in that vein.

Poker wisdom of a champion I found entertaining.
The Man behind the Shades was entertaining too.

I'd guess if he's stuck in bed you might want to get him some fiction and stuff too.....

He didn't state whether he wanted strategy or not. As been as the op said he was sending TOP and SSHE, it is fair to assume that it was ok to provide more strategy suggestions. Also, if you actually read the posts?? you'd realise there was additional non-strategy material recommended as well.

I will not stand for any more vicious attacks like this. Your ruining my chances of making the most hated poster list that BluffThis!! started.

Re: 10 Best Books

I second the "One of a Kind" Stu Unger book, Super/System one and two, say what you will about him but the Amarillo Slim book is entertaining, "Bringing Down The House" about the MIT blackjack team is very good, and you can't go wrong with the main "big deal" / "biggest game in town" / "pos. 5th street" / "prof. banker suicide king" combo either.

The Poker Essay books are pretty heavy, by that I mean that there's a lot of stuff to think about stuffed into a few pages. When I was reading them I found myself a lot of times just reading one essay, then putting the book down and thinking about what I just read for 15 to 30 minutes and rereading certain parts to really really understand them. I didn't find myself doing this with other books like TOP and SSHE. I suspect it might have to do with the wide range of ideas and uncohesiveness of the book jumping from one idea to the next. OTOH I guess your cousin has lots of time to rest if the books wear him out too much.

i don't think the harrington books (2+2) are dry, but you are thinking of entertaining the kid, therefore, your list is good.

LOL. I see your point, but if I were in the hospital and somebody gave me The Mathematics of Poker to read, I would be very happy about it.

Consider yourself flamed.

Re: 10 Best Books

MRBAA I am surprised you thought Ace on the River was a good stretegy book. So far everyone else has been warning me not to waste my time on it. I have been told the best info he gives is something along the lines of "If you have a big bankroll, don't flash it around as other players may ask you for a loan."

What tactics did you learn that everyone else missed?
