Best intro to a song ever?
|
Re: Best intro to a song ever?
I don't have a link, but I have two suggestions, albeit they are kind of sketchy.
Eruption (Van Halen) is probably the best intro for a song if you group it with You Really Got Me. One I also like is called The Hellion, and it's Judas Priest's intro to Electric Eye. |
Re: Best intro to a song ever?
I like The Bronx, but Queens of the Stone Age do the same intro, only better, on Songs for the Deaf (I forget which song, sorry). Better because its not so obvious when the unfiltered song is gonna start.

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
this seems more like a job for OOT, but as long as we're talking

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
The most common answers I would expect are Iron Man and Smoke on the Water.

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
Im old but I have always had a preference to Foreplay/Longtime from the first Boston LP, also from Van Halen Eruption/You Really got me, and their best IMO Intruder/Pretty Woman. That one from the Bronx is sweet though.

Fade To Black - Metallica this would win the best outro. the intro doesn't compare. |

Not to mention Kickstart My Heart by the Crue. The stuff where just hearing the opening notes makes the fur go up on your arms. b |

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
The only reason I disagree is that I think the whole song is awesome from beginning to end.
|
Re: Best intro to a song ever?
Wow, another song (and band) that I completely forgot about that belongs on my iPod. Thanks!

The Who - Baba O'Riley

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
There's an Alan Parson's Project song that I used to think was the best intro ever.
I can't remember the name of the song (it's not the one the Chicago Bulls used to use, although that's a great intro too). Another that comes to mind is "Dance on a Volcano" by Genesis. |

No, the one I'm thinking of is probably not as well known. It starts out very soft with just a syntheziser (keyboards), then drums enter to add kind of an off beat, then organ for melody all the while building in crescendo (sp?). In fact, I think it's an all instrumental tune. I don't think there are any lyrics to this song. It's also one of the older songs I believe. I wish I could remember the friggin name!! Thanks anyway. |

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
the alan parsons project song your thinking of must be the intro to "eye in the sky" and i think the intro is called sirus.
|
Re: Best intro to a song ever?
Thanks, but I don't think that's it. I believe this song was before "eye in the sky". I think it was from the early seventies. It sounds almost space-like and is all instrumental. I wish I could describe it better. I'm on a mission now to find it for my iPod. I'll post back here when I do.

Re: Best intro to a song ever?
I'm another old guy, but have any of you ever heard how Springsteen used to intro into Because The Night in the '70's. Clearly his best guitar work ever. Youtube has several clips of the song from that era. Check it out!

[/ QUOTE ] "Fire on high" is the name of the tune. Best intros : Yes - "Close to the Edge" and "Heart of the sunrise" and it doesn't even scratch the surface of awesome Yes songs; Pink Floyd - a ton of stuff; Santana some of the older stuff; a number of Van Halen tunes (Didn't see "Hot for Teacher" mentioned)... |
