Party + 888 Merger talks

The Times October 30, 2006

PartyGaming and 888 in talks
By David Robertson
PartyGaming and 888 Holdings, two of the largest online poker companies, have held preliminary talks about a possible merger, which would create a company worth about £1.6 billion.

The online betting sector has been hit by a crackdown by American authorities and PartyGaming and 888 have pulled out of the market in the United States. A merger would allow the companies to combine their remaining pool of online gamblers.

If this goes through, party might become the fishiest place ever.

If two negatives make a positive, that might just be the case.

Hahaha. The good old days of Pacific was the most bizarre poker I have ever seen. I remember midnight games and getting my under the gun raise of 10/10 getting cold called by the entire table. Or playing short and having a 7/2 off auto quader quad to the river and getting runner runner deuces to crack my bullets.. I would guess that in the UK that 888 is the better known brand, although party isnt far behind, getting the 888 players onto the party software could be a good thing for us euros.

Party has still been pretty decent at the 1/2NL sh anyway.

Getting the 888 players to Party would rule - we'd have some decent MTTs again, yay. Plus, the cash/SNG games would probably benefit as well.

888 is #1 in Europe especially UK. This would be great because 888 + Party could grow really fast in Europe.

This would be great news, I think. I mean, we should all root for a better poker site, even if we can't play at it at the moment. Maybe we can find a way to play there, or in the future we can play there. A bigger, better site is in all of our best interests.

I suspect the outcome of this will be that they consolidate Pacific's worst-in-class software and cashout times with Party's worst-in-class customer service and create the ultimate crappiest site in the history of the internet.
