LINE WAITING at BEST BUY for PS3
 

There was another thread like this but it was covered with people questioning if it will be profitable, if it's worth it to wait in line blah blah blah.....
This thread is only for people discussing waiting in line at a best buy, circuit city, walmart etc. (big stores that did not do pre-orders)

I plan on going with three of my friends and just front them the money. (They all kind of owe me favors and I plan on just buying a lot of patron and just getting hammered with them)
Anyway some questions I have (i figure mostly people who waited for 360's to have the answers)

If one or two of my friends leave for a couple hours will this cause a problem?
Should I buy a tent? (i figure this will make people less likely to realize if my friends have left or not)
I don't wanna chance it, but I don't wanna piss off my friends by waiting to long, what time should i show up?

I camped out at EB for the preorders. Don't leave the line for too long, an hour at the most. People seem to get pretty pissy at these things.

I brought a tent, and was glad I did. I only wish I had brought more blankets.

Bring a bunch of paper and a pen and pass out numbers to people arriving in line. Everyone who's early will gladly follow this system. So this helps for later on when you all want to gang up on someone and beat the shit out of them for cutting in line.

My question: What are some stores that will be getting PS3's, but people will be less likely to camp out at? I'm in Canada, if that helps. I was thinking Costco, or something like that.

That's a great idea with the pen and paper, thank you. Haha canada, ya i'm in new orleans so i'm not to worried about blankets. Costco seems like a good idea, i would say call them and see if they're selling any, I doubt it tho.

How long in advance do you think it would be necessary to go? I know that it depends on factors such as the location/popularity of the store, but I was just wondering.

I went to BB earlier this week and the guy there told me that they were opening at midnight the night of the PS3 release (the 17th i think it is) Make sure u know if ur best buy is doing this.

ToysRus was taking preorders this past Sunday. Preorder lines at started at 1-2pm the day before. That's 20 hours before opening. My guess is that Nov17 will be longer.

we waited 21 hours (was daylight savings, too [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img])
secured 7 ps3s, 7 wiis and 13 elmos, tho [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Generally Best Buy will have the most units at launch. Also places like Costco had 360's on launch day...they were bundles.

Can anyone write a little guide to doing this?

I intend on going to Bestbuy on Thursday and Saturday for PS3 and Wii. What time should I go on Thursday (which will give me a feel for Saturday)? I have a night class on Thurday (ends at 8), I'm guessing I will have to skip it to have any shot?

I want to succeed in this, so please help me out.

I've heard that the Best Buy right by my house will open up at 12:01a.m. on 11/17 to sell their stock (I believe 22 of them). We're gonna go from there to the Walmart up the street which opens at 7a.m. and try to get another 3.

Bunch of my friends waited in line for the 360's. One thing to think about is, how you gonna go the bathroom. Suggestion-eventually one of the people in the front of the line took down everybodys name. Then you were allowed a 30min break while waiting-yah kinda crazy. You don't really need a tent, just bring comfortable chairs and lots of blankets. Maybe some stuff to do,ex poker game,psp

also-don't buy any game and sell as a bundel-you will get less

Just so you guys know, I work at a best buy and we are going to start setting up a line the wednesday before release. We know for sure that 3 people will be in line by then. And they are very limited so plan ahead. I would bring two people so if you have to go to the bathroom you can get out most people won't care. And for dinner just ask people around you if they want any so you can leave to get something.

I was just at my local best buy, and they said that they are only going to have 5. The lady recomended that you get there on Wednesday if you want one. I'm not waiting that long, that's retarded.

I'm going to try to find one of these 12am openings in Toronto and then try another store that doesnt have a big line at 12.15. I'm also planning on taking my younger brother so we can get 1 each.

Good luck waiting in line at any major US retail chain. I have seen allocated amounts now for Circuit, Wal-Mart and for Best Buy. Most Circuits and Wal-Marts are getting a combination of 5 to 8 of the 2 versions, while Best Buy which is being allocated around 15% of the Sony initial shipment, will only be having an average of 9 units per location.

Not worth my time to wait probably 36 to 48 hours in line for one of these even if I double or triple my money.

Learn to play poker well, you can make more in that timeframe.

How much of a problem would it be to not have an existing ebay account? Would I be unable to sell a PS3 because I have no rating?

You'd probably be able to sell. Maybe not for quite as much as others who are established. Maybe $100 less?

The buyers have rationalized paying 3 times more than its worth. Im sure they'll fit your lack of history into their rationalization.

WOW can I expect those prices to hold up after the PS3 has hit the market? And when should I think about going in line to buy one or two in Quebec City (Canada)? We don't have BestBuy but have Futureshop (owned by bestbuy) and obviously wal-mart and the likes...

I'm thinking this would be nice, but I<d like to know for sure the prices are not gonna drop when it's out.

yes, i expect them to be above 2k pretty easily and maybe even flirt with 3k at times between launch and xmas

alright good, me and 2-3 of my friends are thinking about doing this, but we haven't found a store that opens at midnight (so we'll have to wait for like 10 hours and we can't hit two different stores). Does anyone know of a website that lists stores that open early maybe? Also, what are the expectations (prices) for the wii? Will it be worth waiting for that one too to re-sell? We're all students so 1-2k for a night's "work" is pretty damn good [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Is anyone considering using craigslist instead of ebay? Can I expect the same profit from craigslist? I just think it would greatly reduce the chance of me being screwed. Plus, I've never sold anything over ebay.

yeah, i'm gonna use craigslist as well; why not? it's not binding until u agree over email/phone to sell to someone...u can put up an ad as a feeler to see what responses u get
