Florida??
I am travelling to Orlando for business in December. I see that there is a casino in Tampa, as well as Tampa Downs which has a card room. Seems like they are 70 miles away.
Anyone know of another option, besides just playing online in the hotel? Thanks in advance, Todd |
Re: Florida??
You'll pass the Hard Rock before you get to any of the dog tracks in Tampa. There's no reason to.
|
Re: Florida??
From what I hear they have a cap on how big the pot can get; something like $20. I'm not sure how accurate that is though
|
Re: Florida??
Tampa Downs doesn't open till late December, so Derby Lane in St Pete or Hard Rock are the only options.
Derby has tourneys but expect 30% vig and an insanely fast structure. Hard Rock isn't much better but the vig is a little less and the structure, especially the higher you go, a little better. Re: Florida??
I thought they had a limit on how big the pot can get in limit games, or maybe it was how big of a game they could spread? Do they have limit games?
|
Re: Florida??
Take the 45 min drive to Port Canaveral and go on the Suncruz Casino boat. It leaves at 7 p.m. goes 3 miles off shore and comes back around 12:30ish. The play is some of the worst you've ever seen. Hopefully you don't get sea sick though. They spread limit 3/6, 4/8, 5/10, 10/20 and 10/20 round and round and 2/5NL 300 max and 5/10NL 600 max.

Re: Florida??
Anyone been on the Casino Cruz boat out of Treasure Island? If so, rake, games spread, smoking/non-smoking?

Some of the structures they came up with are downright retarded - I was at the PB kennel club and they spread $2-2 limit holdem w/$2 ante, so after the whole table limps in (standard) anyone gets 20:1 to call a bet on the flop. Wonderful game. Anyone been on the Palm Beach Princess lately? |
Re: Florida??
Sun Cruz has been advertising the piss out of the World Offshore Poker Championship its a 500+50in the paper and radio.
Anyone actually played these Sun Cruz cash games? I am intrigued now. |

Re: Florida??
Until three or four years ago, the only game you could play in Florida was .25/.50 with a $10 cap on the pot. But then the state decided to allow what they called "high stakes poker" -- up to $2 bets with no cap on the pot.

Anyone think this game would be beatable? How would I go about it... I really dont see being able to fold ever. Also yea I live in florida The hard rock in florida has $1/$2 limit and $2/$4 limit holdem I believe games are boring (compared to vegas) drinks are not free wait can be insane if you try to go on a friday night The games are prob decent friday and saturday night but I would get there early to get a seat before 5am... |

[/ QUOTE ] $2/$2 hold'em. State law. Wait's not bad in Tampa on Friday nights, Saturday nights can be upwards of 2 hours. Also, attendance gets softer in November and December. Tampa spreads that "action hold'em" as well. The Hard Rock is many things - it is NOT boring. I've seen three bets in Vegas only a handful of times - at the Hard Rock, it happens every other hand. Every hand gets a showdown. Every. Single. Hand. |

Re: Florida??
Is there anyway to multi-table the SNGs at the Hard Rock!!!
That would be fun. I cant wait to get down there. It should be a good time. Todd |
Re: Florida??
I've seen someone tried to multi-table a SNG and a MTT. Management wasn't happy. He bubbled his SNG and busted in the MTT after getting half his chips blinded off.
If you're looking to go pro and cover your nut each month, Florida is NOT the place to play poker. If you're a ultra-mega nit and get mad when the fish call and fold out of turn, call your raise on the turn with only a gutshot and hit on the river, or dead straddle, Florida is NOT the place to play poker. If you want to have a good time with a little money and don't mind $6 rake on pots, usurious juice on tournaments, and paying for drinks, then come to Florida and run the tables, get a lap dance or two paid for. Re: Florida??
For me, I will be there for 4 days for a conference. So, I am there looking for a 'real' game, as opposed to online. Also, to pick up a stack of 1$ chips for my home game.

Treasure Island SunCruz in Florida
For anyone wondering about the SunCruz in Treasure Island it is CRAP. I went on it about 3 months ago and it was just a complete mess. The only previous information I had heard about it was that they run different games on different days. Holdem was fri and sat, mon was omaha, etc. pley they had hold 'em tourneys on different days.
I went on the ship (which max. persons holds about 6) in the afternoon cruise on a saturday. I went to the poker "area" which consisted of 2 tables that looked like they were pulled from the rubble of a demolished Vegas casino. I asked what games they would be having and i was informed that today their game was 7-card stud 1-10 with 20 max on 7th street. I asked if they would be having any other games on their other table but they told me that they only had 1 dealer and because their "regulars" wanted to play 7card, that was going to be the game. The ship set sail and when it reached time to begin play, the dealer finally returned to the table to hand out chips and set-up, wasting 15-20 minutes minimum easily. But a positive was that the game was really easy So in summary, In my opinion I would not waste my time and effort driving to the Treasure Island SunCruz unless they have completely re-done their whole organization. If anyone knows of changes please let me know. |

Re: Florida??
Hey PokerAtlas,
You should add the Poker Room in Jacksonville to your guide. It is a good room. Lots of tables and decent spread of games. http://www.jaxpokerroom.com/ |

The ship leaves from the Tampa/Clearwater area. http://treasureislandcasinocruz.com/ [/ QUOTE ] I have been on this ship a few different times. Overall i would rank the experience a 7 or 8 out of 10. I've always played on Saturdays when they have two departure times. 11am-5pm when they run a 1/2nl game. Other time is 7pm-1230am. They spread a 2/5nl game. I also believe they spread a 5/10 or 10/20 limit game on Wednesdays at night but don't quote me on that. Unfortunately the bad thing is that you have to wait an hour and 20 minutes to gamble/play poker because this is how long it takes the boat to get to international waters. Also you must stop playing an hour 20 before the ship arrives. This leaves about 3 hours and 40 minutes of poker to be played per cruise. The competition for both is your standard live play with too many calling stations and not very many good players, good money can be made here. Unfortunately with it being a cruise ship when someone busts and doesn't feel like re buying there isn't a whole bunch of people waiting to take there spot so sometimes it can become shorthanded but that I don't mind. Two other good things is if you contact the guy who is manager of the poker for the cruise he will get you a free pass to get on the ship(normally its a couple of bucks for the regular gamblers). Also he will give you a breakfast buffet coupon that is overall pretty horrible but free food is free food to me. Another thing is that the drinks are all comped when playing and the waitresses will keep them coming as long as you can handle em. One last thing is that someone mentioned it was out of the Tampa area. I live in Tampa but it is actually out of the St. Petersburg area more specifically Madeira Beach. This is about a 45 minute drive from the South Florida's campus if you know where that is. Its about a 15 minute drive from Tropicana field if you know where that is. If you want the number to the Poker guy(I believe its on the website) or if your interested in going some weekend please write something back in this post or PM me. I'm always looking to meet new people who play poker. Edit: The boat has smoking on it but they try to keep it to a minimum and as someone who doesn't smoke I haven't been bothered by it yet. Also they rake every pot instead of charing a time. I believe the rake is 10% up to 5. |

With my call ahead he has always let me know the game and how many players he is expecting and it has always been true. Also yes the atmosphere is a little grimy, but I'm not one to care too much about the whistle and bells a poker room has to offer. |
Re: Florida??
I play on the Suncruz boat out of Cape Canaveral. There are only two games with any real players. The 10-20 round and round and the 5-10 NL. The only real disadvantage is that the trips are short, about 4hrs of real poker time. At the 5-10 games and the 2-5 NL people are just trying to give their money away. You don't really need any skill only a little patience.
