Re: Poker in Michigan
The Leelanau Sands Casino (Traverse Bay Casino Resorts) takes a rake out of the pot instead of a session fee in NL, it has 1/2 and 2/5 usually one table of each going from 5pm - 2am I think. I only played there one night but the 2-5 was pretty good. I am not sure but it is probably about 4 hours away from you.

Re: Poker in Michigan
What? You need to start your own "house" game.

Re: Poker in Michigan
I mean no session fee, just rake.
Example: all casinos I have been in there has not been a session fee for the limit games, im looking for a casino w/ no session fee for the NL games And im located near Sterling Heights. |
Re: Poker in Michigan
Actually from the SH myself, Sands in Traverse rakes the pot and so does Little River in Manistee

Re: Poker in Michigan
if you live in sterling heights you are more like 20 mins away from detroit haha.

Re: Poker in Michigan
I'm going to be frank. I think the session fee if pretty much going to be about the same as a winning player getitng raked from the pot. It does induce you to play a lot looser than you normally would just to keep up, but if houses are raking every pot you win say like 4 dollars you'd only win like 3 hands an hour to get the same rake. It seems like it sucks while it is happening, but you might only be paying sligtly more than you would else where.
The only people this would really hurt is someone who is just starting out and playing like maybe 15 percent of the hands dealt to him. All the detroit area casinos you have implied odds on practically every hand you get. Also, is it worth the gas? you might want to do some ecomonmic planning before hating the session fee to terrible much. 4 hour drive could equal 8 hour road time depending on the car you have could mean a buttload in fuel charges. So i say stay put and come play with me at greektown and own newbs like they should. See you at the tables big guy. |
Re: Poker in Michigan
I think the time share is a lot worse than the rake unless the game is super rich.

Re: Poker in Michigan
Texibus, thx for post.
ok, 8pm = 20min away...8am = 1hour away I don't plan on driving 4 hours just to play poker but am interested to know what casinos offer NL w/ no session fee. The session fee annoys me becase I am not rolled for higher stakes games and play TAG. If im getting charged $12 an hour or about every 30-40 hands I don't see how I can make a decent long term profit. What stakes do you play? |

Re: Poker in Michigan
Motor City dealers are a little faster than Greektown.
I sat at Greektown's NL game one night and the dealer got out 4 hands in a half hour (30 minutes.) Brutal. The thing with beating Detroit poker is that you have to be super selective about the games you play in and play consistantly super well, otherwise you will break even or lose. The higher you play the better chance you have of beating the house, but the tougher players you will encounter (although not necessarily all the time). The rake and the time charges are too brutal, no matter how you slice it. I am not good enough to beat Detroit poker. I am a break even player here, although I do well in Vegas, AC, and on the Internet. -J |
Re: Poker in Michigan
i've been playing the 100 and 200 nl games there. Playing 100 nl at those tables you can make a killing just playing tight aggressive, If you actually are playing tight aggressive and not being tight aggressive pre flop and then giving up on the pot after you get called on the flop.

Re: Poker in Michigan
I just started playing live and the 6 dollar session fee is definetely a downer. I was answering the posters question in a round about way. I'll try better.
The detroit casinos and their rake is going to be cheapier then you driving anywhere else from your location when you account for other expenses other than your rake. Also, the convience and LOOOOOOOse action in my opinion at those tables at 100 and 200 nl games are as good as you're going to find practically anywhere. Now if you want to take a vacation and play cards different answer, but if you are talking about making a regular run just to play cards, pay the 6 bucks. Also, if you want to find me at Greektown give me a PM and I'd be happy to sit in on a table with you. Seriously though JJNJustin you must be playing 5-10nl or higher because the 300 max is pretty bad. It's like playing a 50nl game online at party. Maybe you just had a bad night that's my perosonal belief haha. |
Re: Poker in Michigan
Is it possible to make a decent profit with the $12/hr session fee?

What do you consider decent?

Re: Poker in Michigan
seriously i think you can make 8 dollars an hour playin with a 6 dollar 1/2 hour session fee. PLaying 100 nl, the games really are that soft. I'm going up there tonight if you wanna meet with me and maybe discuss how you can manage this.

Re: Poker in Michigan
Yes you can make that after the time charge.
|
Re: Poker in Michigan
I think your going to be hard pressed to find what your looking for Kash.. I'm from Grand Rapids and I've hit all the casino's in a 3 hour radius including: Greektown, Lelenau, Little River, Soaring Eagle, Kewadin Shores along with a few in Indiana and all of them are the same w/charging a flat fee instead of a rake.

Re: Poker in Michigan
OK, so I'm going to try playing the 1/2, 100max live game for an extended amount of time. I would like some tips for making atleast $8/hr at the casinos since most of my playing experiance is online where I played TAG and multi-tabled.
Game: $1/$2 NL, extremly fishy, max buyin of 100 Style of Play: LAG or TAG? ....the session fee is advantageous for LAG play but the players are so bad that I don't kow if there is a better style of play? Bankroll: Does the fact that the max buy-in is 100 instead of 200 in a 1/2 game change the br requirment? Doesn't the session fee also increase the br requirements? |
Re: Poker in Michigan
Bring many buy-ins. at least 5 or 6. Standard TAG doesn't work real well in that 50-100 buy-in game. The rediculous overbetting preflop would price all but the top 4 hands. I like a more sLAG approach myself. My stats would probably range between 20/10 and 30/15 depending on how passive the game is preflop.
I recommend buying in and just pretty much watching for at least 30 minutes. I mean, play the top 5 or 6 hands if you get them, but other than that, just check and muck. Get a feel for the table. Imagine a free money table, and you have some idea what the games are like. Try and figure out real fast if you have it in you to play that game without tilting. Good Luck. |
Re: Poker in Michigan
I was speaking to friend and he suggested to gamble it up until i have a double stack and than play my standard TAG game.

Re: Poker in Michigan
I thought you were talking about the $200 max game. I'm not sure that you can beat the time charge in the $100 max game over the long haul. There was no action last night at MC so I went to Greektown for the first time in months; perhaps all year. There were probably 5 or more $100 max tables and they were definitely gambling it up. There were some big pots, but not much post flop play. The game is kind of a crap shoot and you have to play it almost like you're short stacked in a tourney I think. You'll probably be playing a high variance game and that might be the best way to go. Try to accumulate chips and then sit back a little and pick 'em off.

The thread was about sessions fees and you listed a site that tells nothing of the rake or session fees. I think that even a 2 week old knows that's spamming.
