How many mistakes per night do you make?

That you are aware of, on average, how many mistakes do you make in a session? Not mistakes like, hindsight 20/20 results oriented mistakes, but mistakes like you know better but still made a poor or hasty decision.

yesterday I misclick mucked TT UTG. This bothers me far more than any kind of beat. Or if I overlook calling the flop with a gutshot with huge implied odds vs a spewing lagtard. These things can bother me for up to 20-30 minutes later. I play SNGs so I almost never make actual strategic errors. That's what's so great about them. You just know what to do pretty much all the time.

More than I care to admit to.

Re: How many mistakes per night do you make?

I don't know how many, but they sting me, i.e. today I lost a $700 pot, getting it in on the flop with top set vs somebody with an overpair and lost to the 2-outer and I did not care, but I am still annoyed that I spewed $150 on a bluff where it is obvious with some think work that I had near to nada folding equity. It is part of the learning process though, whenever you know you made a mistake it shows you are aware of improvement potential, I try to think of it that way, as a motivation to improve my winrate.

Re: How many mistakes per night do you make?

I used to make about 1 or 2 mistakes a session costing anywhere from $20-$250 a mistake. Plus as a strictly B&M player on the weekends this was significant loss to my long term profit. Most mistakes would happen late into the night and all of them were preventable if i had just sat back a second and looked at wtf was going on instead of making a hasty assumption. Almost no mistakes were failed bluffs either.

My new goal as of a month ago was no mistakes a session, and so far i cut it down to 1 mistake every 3 sessions which turned my slightly losing sessions to slightly winning ones and that has been huge so far. I figure I've saved $5 an hour or more since making that goal

If you were only making 1 mistake for every 3 sessions you play you'd be hands down the best player in the world. Either you aren't aware of all of your mistakes (my guess), or you actually are the best player in the world and I apologize and put my foot in my mouth.

I believe around 1-2 per 400 to 800 hands, 6 max Fixed LHE.

I try to keep the numbers of mistakes to a low (obviously) but even when i do make a mistake usually it's in a small pot

No matter your definition of "mistake," I seriously doubt this. It would be good for you to be realistic and would work wonders on your game.

if any of you knew, then you'd prob know the mistakes. So could fix them fast, then become AMAZING.

So in reality, ALOT and NO IDEA WHEN(Well except obvious ones).

In the Sklansky sense of the mistake, it's almost impossible to go 10 hands without making some sort of mistake.

In the sense of making a play or a fold where the reality is that you chose the -EV option given the info out there, I certainly feel good when I'm making only one mistake every 200 or so hands. You can't expect to play perfectly. More to the point you can swap small mistakes (limp-calling a raise with a suited connector) for larger postflop mistakes from your opponents. A speculative mistake, in a sense.

I play live but usually find 5+ plays every night that I regret and usually more. The key is learning from these mistakes and not making the same ones again. This is how we all become better poker players

Out of every 1000 hands, for example:

There's normally a couple of hands where I think "I really ballsed that up", and try and learn something from my horrendous error(s).

There's probably another 10 or so where I realise I made some minor mistakes.

Probably a ton of other minor mistakes which I was too busy to notice.

There is also lost EV from multitabling, where I fold a playable hand because I'm too busy at other tables.

me to.. no matter how long, what game, what stakes, what time, what place. I'm trying to get it down to 41 though. My strategy is to cash out @ 41, but last time I did this I mucked my hand without looking and turned out they were aces so I'm still stuck at 42.

I like to limit my live mistakes to 3 and then I pack it up.

Re: How many mistakes per night do you make?

i find i make 1 or 2 mistakes at the beginning of a session on the tables, bluff a clearly 'i'm gonn a call whatever' guy, continuation bet with 3 overcards on the board and 4 players in the pot. and lose a few buyins.
then i tighten up and everyone calls me, usually finish up half what i put in

Re: How many mistakes per night do you make?

If you are really a good player, you should basically never make a knowing mistake. obviously we all make many mistakes over time. but if you are making bad plays even though you know for certain what the correct play is, then you should definitely not be playing for anything close to stakes that are meaningful to you.

You know that if you would be put to throw all red balls into one bucket, all blue to another etc. that you would do mistakes, right? We adjust our focus and attention to what whatever situation needs and automatically we put the level needed to get a low error rate but not the one needed to get zero error rate.

Re: How many mistakes per night do you make?

Played for a couple of hours today and Im sure I made lots more but I remember making 4 or 5 real big mistakes.

Like not slowplaying the nuts when nobody could have much on the board except overpairs so that one bugged me for a while.
And I called an allin with AJ what I normally never do in that situation.

But thats why I play lower stakes to learn from it and try to avoid them in the future
