Martin Sexton
this thread will probably die a quick front-page death, but by any chance is anyone else here a fan?
|
Re: Martin Sexton
Yes, Martin Sexton is the man. I got to see him live at a free concert a while back and he was great.
|
Re: Martin Sexton
sweet, where? are you near Boston, he's a local boy...?
i've still never seen him live. |
Re: Martin Sexton
No, I live in Louisville. One of the smaller radio stations does free concerts throughout the summer on the riverfront usually by smaller name musicians. I had heard of him before the show and was very impressed after seeing him.

Re: Martin Sexton
impressed enough to become a fan?
he's got a great back story, don't know if you know it...but he actually used to be homeless, and he played for change in the boston subways...somehow (don't know details) he managed to parlay that into his present music career...good stuff. |
Re: Martin Sexton
I had just learned of him before the show, so I was a fan of what I had heard but not a hardcore fan. After seeing the show, I was very impressed and certainly a bigger fan. I did not know his story but I will look it up.

Re: Martin Sexton
funny - now that i said that, i can't find anything written about it anywhere...hmmm...

Re: Martin Sexton
Saw him in Lincoln back in 2004. He was amazing, one of the best live perfomances I've ever seen. Been a fan since.

Re: Martin Sexton
Freedom of the Road (live) is an awesome song. I'm certainly a fan. I like his live stuff better than his studio stuff.

Re: Martin Sexton
Yes, I am a fan. I've seen him live before. He is goot.

Re: Martin Sexton
Martin Sexton is awesome. I saw him do a free show at WPI in 2000. Haven't gotten to see him again since, but I have all of his CDs. Hope to get to a show again soon. Black Sheep is my favorite of the studio albums, followed by WonderBar.

Re: Martin Sexton
I've seen him with Keller Williams last summer at the Tweeter Center in MA.
I also saw him at The Gathering of the Vibes festival this past summer. He's got some soul. |
Re: Martin Sexton
Ray
Considering our similar tastes in music. This something I should check out? |
Re: Martin Sexton
If I like X, I would like Martin Sexton. Give me some X's.
|
Re: Martin Sexton
I've seen him about 3 times (he comes to my college somewhat regularly). It's been very very good each time. I really love when he sings into that extra mic which distorts his voice and makes it sound old-timey (not sure how to explain it or what it's called).

Re: Martin Sexton
how about a link to a sample?

Re: Martin Sexton
I am pretty sure I've seen him at the Rock 'n Roll HoF in Cleveland with other groups. He was very good IIRC.

Re: Martin Sexton
There are samples on his website.

Ray Considering our similar tastes in music. This something I should check out? [/ QUOTE ] sure - i mean, he doesn't particularly have that jam band sound, but it never hurts to try something new, right? [ QUOTE ] how about a link to a sample? [/ QUOTE ] www.myspace.com/martinsexton the live version of "Angeline" on this site is one of my personal favs...it's off of "Live Wide Open" which is my favorite of all his CDs (has an awesome version of "Gypsy Woman" too). [ QUOTE ] his vocal style can best be described as soulful, combining the best qualities of singers like Van Morrison, Al Green, Aaron Neville and Otis Redding. [/ QUOTE ] while most of that "similar to" list prior to this was questionable, this is an excellent description of him. |
Re: Martin Sexton
For those who like Martin Sexton, check out Ray Lamontagne, if you haven't already.
