Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

A couple of good teams on byes this week for most of us.

Chicago
Tennessee
St. Louis
New Orleans
San Francisco
Baltimore

I have Chicago D and Gould. I've picked up Scobee (vs Houston) and New England D (vs Buffalo)

Available options:

K:

Feely vs @Dal
Vanderjagt vs NYG
Lindell vs NE

Def:

NYJ vs Det
Det vs NYJ
NYG vs Dal
Ind vs Was
TB vs Phi

None of the options look that great.

My other options for my team are:

RB (pick 2):

Bell vs @Cle
C. Williams vs Phi
Green vs @Mia

I'm thinking Bell and Cadillac.

WR (pick 3):

Roy W vs @ NYJ
Walker vs @ Cle
Stallworth vs@ TB
Evans vs NE
Edwards vs Den

I'm thinking Stallworth if healthy, Walker and Roy W. Next is Evans last is Edwards.

Annoyance of having a kicker and def with bye same week is I had to drop 2 players (Plummer, sucks and Droughns, sucks so far). I guess I'll try differently next year but Gould and Chicago are so good.
Edwards

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I asked about this in the FF Trade thread, but didn't get too much feedback, and I need to make a decision by tonight.

I currently have three trade offers on the table, all involving Travis Henry. I offered him up to my entire league after his great Week 6 performance, looking for another RB in return so I can take care of bye-week issues for this week (I'm extremely thin at RB2 this week).

Which offer is the best for my situation? My main purpose of trading is to solidify an RB2 for Week 7, but one of these offers is really good for me long term.

Offer #1:
Corey Dillon for Travis Henry

Offer #2:
Marion Barber for Travis Henry

Offer #3:
Reggie Bush and Michael Turner for Travis Henry

Here is my team (12-team, H2H, standard CBS SportsLine scoring league, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DST):
Carson Palmer
Ron Dayne
Deuce McAllister (BYE)
LaDainian Tomlinson
Jerious Norwood
Travis Henry (BYE)
Musa Smith (BYE)
Donald Driver
Joey Galloway
Lee Evans
Marvin Harrison
Jason Witten
Nate Kaeding
DST Broncos

Team #1:
Peyton Manning
Vince Young
Brett Favre
Cedric Benson
Warrick Dunn
Corey Dillon
Santana Moss
Roy Williams
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Chris Baker
Heath Miller
Lawrence Tynes
DST Rams
DST Saints

Team #2:
Rex Grossman
Michael Vick
Reuben Droughns
Rudi Johnson
Marion Barber
Clinton Portis
Darrell Jackson
Derrick Mason
Anquan Boldin
Alex Smith
Dallas Clark
Matt Stover
DST Bills
DST Vikings

Team #3:
Philip Rivers
Byron Leftwich
Maurice Jones-Drew
Edgerrin James
Reggie Bush
Michael Turner
Reggie Williams
Terry Glenn
Jerricho Cotchery
Kellen Winslow
Jeremy Shockey
Mike Vanderjagt
DST Steelers
DST Seahawks

In offer #1, I get an RB for a good team, but his role is diminishing and he doesn't have much upside.

In offer #2, I get a RB who doesn't even have the starting role for his team, but he puts up consistent numbers and usually gets action.

In offer #3, I get handcuffs for my #1 and #2 RBs, however, I would have to start Michael Turner along with LaDainian Tomlinson for Week 7, as Reggie Bush is on a bye.

Thoughts on each offer? Since I'm playing the best team in the league this week, should I try to maximize the trade value for this week only, or for down the road?

Thanks.

Capone,
I think you have everything figured out already
Toohigh,
I'd take Bush&Turner

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

QB: Vick or Roethlisburger to fill in this week and backup Brees for the rest of the year?

RB: Starting Bell @Cleveland.
McGahee vs. NE or Jordan vs. Arizona in the #2 slot?

WR: Starting Harrison & R.Williams.
Evans vs. NE or R. Moss vs. Arizona in the #3 slot?

Leaning towards Jordan & Moss (shiver) I hope last night was a mirage for the Cards D.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

The options are keep Henry or #3. I don't like #3 that much although Bush has gotten a lot of catches. It seems that Henry is on the UP UP due to Young being on the field. They have run very well their last 2 weeks.

Let's look at schedules:

Henry:

Bye
Houston-Great Matchup
Jack-Horrible Matchup
Balt-Horrible
@Phil-Decent Matchup
NYG-Decent Matchup
Indy-Great Matchup
Houston-Great
Jack-Horrible
Buffalo-Good Matchup
NE (not sure if you go here)-Bad Matchup

So you have 4 Good Great / 3 Horrible and 2 Decent

Bush-

Balt-Bad
TB-Decent/Bad (they are good against the pass bad against the run)
Pittsburgh-Bad
Cincy-Great
Atlanta-Decent
SF-Great
Dallas-Decent
Washington-Decent
NYG-Good
Carolina-Decent

So you have 3 bad, 2 great and 5 decent.

I'd honestly stick with Henry. I don't trust Turner and this year Henry is better than Bush atleast when healthy. He's lost weight and I regret not picking him up.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

Re: capone

Wow, great analysis, thanks. The thing that sucks is that I'm desperate for an RB2 this week and I really don't wanna have to choose between starting Ron Dayne and Jerious Norwood.

I really like Henry's future potential too, but some factors worry me. First, he plays for the Titans (obv.). Also, he isn't very durable and gets injured easily. Also, would I be starting him over Deuce McAllister enough to warrant hanging on to him?

At least with offer #3 I get handcuffs, so my #1 and #2 RB spots will be secure for the entire year, but this offer wasn't really what I was looking for as far as my current needs.

Should I be shopping Deuce McAllister instead? My gut says no, it's too much of a gamble to ride out Henry.

If offers #1 & 2 aren't good enough, what kind of RB could I get straight up for Henry?

Thanks.

Who is your opponent in week 7?

What do they have?

I don't like sacrificing good players for 1 week of winning unless your that desperate. Travis has good matchups in a couple of weeks. He should start over McAlister in week 8 (balt), week 10 (Pitts) although both matchups are terrible, week 13 (both are good matchups), week 14, week 16 (both not great but I'd rather go against buffalo then the Gaints).

LOL, you'll love this:

Donovan McNabb
Brad Johnson
Tiki Barber
LenDale White
Joesph Addai
Brian Westbrook
Hines Ward
Mike Furrey
Steve Smith
Muhsin Muhammad
Alge Crumpler
John Kasay
DST Eagles
DST Bears

This isn't a divisional game, so him winning doesn't negatively affect my team other than the fact I get a loss. However, I'm only 3-3 right now, and 1 game behind in a DEEP wild-card race.

Obviously I need all the points I can get this week, but maybe keeping Henry is the best idea if I think that I have ZERO chances of winning this week, but I just hate that attitude.

I actually offered this team Henry LAST week, offering Henry and Joey Galloway for Joesph Addai. He declined.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

If your still dying for this week alone I guess you go with Dillon. I dont like it a lot though.

The worst run D's not on bye this week are the following:

Indy
Oakland
Houston
Jets
Cleveland
Tampa

I can't see you getting Jordan but I guess you can try. An owner might be that desperate.

You could go after either of the Indy backs or go after Washington who is probally the #1 runner for the Jets now.

Tatum is going to be a hard pull right now, so I doubt you can get him. You probally in the same boat with getting Westbrook against Tampa.

toohigh 10-17-2006 11:36 AM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

Well I just noticed that my opponent has Chicago DST (averaging 22 FPTS a game) and Muhsin Muhammad on a bye this week, so that certainly helps my cause.

I actually thought I was OVERvaluing Henry, but your first response really got me, especially considering his future matchups. Unfortunately, it is doubtful that any other owner will recognize Henry's true value while trading.

Let's assume I don't trade.

I'd probably go with Jerious Norwood vs PIT. It's pretty much hit or miss with Norwood, so I'd cross my fingers that he gets some action.

Also, Brandon Jacobs and Noah Herron are available on waivers, but I highly doubt either of them would fall to me (I'm 9th out of 12 on the waiver wire).

So worst case scenario, I'm starting Norwood as my RB2. If you had to put a line on my game this week (assuming I start Norwood), how big of an underdog do you think I'd be?

FWIW, there are five 3-3 teams (including mine), one 4-2 team, and two 2-4 teams in the wildcard race. A loss would really put me in a bad spot. Also, the 4-2 team is playing one of the other 3-3 teams, and IME, he's a definite favorite (the other team has a legitimate shot at winning though, it is FF after all).

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I value Henry high because things have really changed since VY has come in. He's run the ball well because on top of Henry they always have to watch for VY to run which wasn't the case with Collins. They ran on a good Washington D on the road which is impressive. Maybe he won't sustain this but due to his weight loss he should be less injury prone than in previous years. I wouldn't bet the farm on Henry but I wouldn't be so inclined to trade him quickly either.

toohigh 10-17-2006 11:47 AM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

So do you think there is anyone else on my roster that is expendable that I could get a bye-week RB for via trade? Would trading Marvin Harrison straight up for an RB be horrendous?

toohigh 10-17-2006 11:54 AM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I don't wanna come off selfish so to answer the other two ?s so far:

Re: capone
Looks like all your decisions are good. I wouldn't start Stallworth though, even if healthy. McNabb spreads the ball very well and has developed nice rapport with his other options during Stallworth's absence. Other than that, your WR rankings are good.

Re: McGahee
Your QB decision is tough, but I believe Vick has more upside for the rest of the year. RB2, McGahee hands down. For your WR3, I'd go with Evans, he has been much more consistent than Moss recently.

capone0 10-17-2006 11:58 AM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

If your going to trade Marvin, you better get a starter b/c he is worth starter value. I wouldn't trade him though. After this week, all of your RBs don't have byes anymore so you'll be alright. Sometimes it's worth the risk of losing 1 week for the rest of the year. I like your team barring Carson playing better.

toohigh 10-17-2006 12:16 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

OK, after contemplating my situation some more, offer #3 is the best offer for me, and whether or not to accept it essentially comes down to how often I would start Travis Henry over Deuce McAllister/Reggie Bush.

Week 8: Henry hands down
Week 9: Deuce hands down
Week 10: Deuce by a little
Week 11: Deuce or Bush
Week 12: Henry by a little
Week 13: Deuce or Bush
Week 14: Henry hands down
Week 15: Deuce or Bush
Week 16: Deuce or Bush

In weeks 11 & 13, Henry has a good matchup, but faces high scoring opponents, and Deuce and Bush's matchups are just as good.

So, it looks like I'd start Henry at least three times out of nine. If I did this trade, my only decisions would be starting Deuce or Bush. Out of the three weeks I would start Henry, one of them Deuce and Bush's matchup isn't that much worse than Henry's.

Obviously if Henry starts rushing for 100+ every week, he becomes an every week starter, but let's not become TOO optimistic, he does play for the Titans.

I think I've just confused myself some more, lol.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

One league I am starting Jordan v Ari and Jones-Drew @HOU, only bench RB without a bye is Julius Jones. I think Jordan was an autostart against the Cards a few weeks ago, but the defense has actually done well against the run lately, sample size? They stuffed LJ for <40 yards rushing and then worked Jones last night. Still go with Jordan or move Jones in there?

League 2: Starting LJ at RB1 against SD
RB2: Maroney @ Buf?
Julis Jones v NYG
C. Taylor @ Sea

capone0,

Do not drop a player of Droughns caliber in order to pick up a kicker. Just drop Gould if you don't have any roster filler. Kickers are way too unpredictable, week over week, to put that much faith in. Gould is the top kicker, and he had, what, a FG and three XPs this week? Wilkins, the second-best kicker (at least according to one of my league's rules), had four extra points this week. It's not worth dropping a player of any value to hang onto Gould.

-McGee

capone0 10-17-2006 12:57 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I'm never going to start Droughns. He's been awful. Their line is awful and their schedule does not let up.

When Green comes back, Ill have 4 backs that I'll start ahead of Reuben.

Gould has been very good this year. I guess I can drop him but there's no reason to. If someone picks up Reuben so be it. I picked him off the wire myself.

Den-Horrible
NYJ-Great
SDG-Horrible
Atlanta-Horrible
Pitt-Horrible
Cincy-Great
Kan-Good
@Pit-Horrible
@Bal-Horrible
Tam-Good

He has WAY too many bad matchups. He's only been good in 1 game this year at Oakland and he wasn't even that good. I don't expect his line to improve. I don't expect him to play well. If he does turn it around he might still be available. But the only weeks I would play him are maybe the NYJ week. He was also horrible against Cincy who has ben pretty bad all year long against the run.

His best matchup is week 17, the week after the SB in my fantasy league.

Aces McGee 10-17-2006 01:22 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

If he was on the waiver wire before, then I guess it's okay to drop him now. And I also didn't know you had a fifth back.

I'd still rather have the running back depth, though.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

RB2- Fred Taylor @ Hou or Maroney @ Buffalo? (leaning towards Taylor?)
TE- Bye (todd heap starter), no backup. need to figure out who to drop.
K- Josh Brown @ MINN or Vinatieri @ WAS?
Def- NE @ Buf or Pitt @ ATL?

So my biggest problems are not in high scoring positions, although K and DEF probably average out to about 10-12 points each in my league.

Bench right now is Pennington, Isaac Bruce, Caddy.

Top scoring TEs playing next week are Smith(TB)@ PHI, Fletcher @ WAS, Bruener @ JAC, Wrightster @ HOU, McMichael @ GB.

Whoops. Didn't realize I didn't put Gore but he's on Bye. If I only had 3 backs, this would be a tough sell to drop him.

I can see how you construed that though.

Lately I've been wondering things like: "when is Aaron Brooks coming back?" Is it even possible for your FF season not to be over when you ask that with a straight face? Don't answer that.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

NorCal,

RB2-Taylor, hes a starter and JAX offense is going to have to explode now that Peterson is out

K-Vinatieri(If you have faith in him, WAS defense sucks),

D-Pitt. If Falcons could not defend against the Giants front
4, I hate to see that o-line against a blitzing Steelers defense.

About the TE, i always see it as a coinflip. Wrightster might lose value because Mercedes Lewis may see more time this week. Sorry I can't help you more. My suggestion is Alex Smith, Gradkowski seems to like him, but take that with a grain of salt.

NorCalJosh 10-17-2006 03:03 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

like i said, i naturally dont expect too much out of TE, ive been pleasantly surprised to find mcnair turning to heap to bail him out over and over, so getting one or two points out of a back up TE shouldnt kill me against a relatively weak team this week.

the only question is who to dumpfor a new one? obviously a K or DEF, both of my kickers and defenses have already had a bye, which of the 4 should i drop?

MacGuyV 10-17-2006 07:11 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

8 team league, start only 1 RB. Rudi Johnson's my starter, Lamont Jordan backup. Looking to pick up a 3rd guy. Should I pick up a Kevin Jones or Fred Taylor, or go for upside with a guy like Micahel Turner, who could produce big if LT2 gets injured? I did this last yr w/ LJ and it would've won me my league if not for missing the playoffs via tiebreaker; though I'm not sure the Chargers OL is as dominant as the Chiefs in recent years.

capone0 10-17-2006 07:21 PM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I'd bet on Kevin Jones over any of those guys. Fred Taylor will split time with Jones-Drew who I think is better and doesn't have as much chance of getting hurt.

Kevin beats up bad Ds. I wouldn't play him very often versus good teams.

With that being said let's look at their schedule.

NYJ-Great
Bye
ATL-Bad
SF-Great
ARI-Good (matters if the same team that showed up on MNF shows up I guess)
Mia-Bad
NWE-Bad
Min-Bad
GNB-Good
Chicago-Bad

So he's got 4 good / great matchups and a bunch of medicore matchups or bad ones.

Let's look at Rudi's Matchups.

Car-Bad
Atl-bad
@Bal-Bad
SDG-Bad
NOR-Decent
Cle-Good
Bal-Bad
Oak-Great
Ind-Great (might change with Booger)
Den-Bad

KJ would be a good option. His tougher games are at the end while Rudi's are near the front of the rest of their schedule.

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

Thanks Capone -
Yeah Cincy's schedule is brutal. Jacksonville has a cakewalk, and Taylor so far has gotten 20 carries every game except for the Skins game (more than Jones). I was probably just going to start Rudi every week when healthy though; you wouldn't pending matchups?

OK, after taking capone0's advice, I pussed out and didn't accept any trades. I did, however, get relatively lucky on the WW, picking up both Brandon Jacobs and Wali Lundy (HOU RB, head coach wants to get him back in the mix, possibility he'll start).

Which leads me to my question, which RB2 should I start this week, and why?

Brandon Jacobs @ DAL
Jerious Norwood vs PIT
Wali Lundy vs JAC

Spellmen 10-18-2006 11:39 AM

Re: Official Week 7 Fantasy Football Thread

I've heard Lundy is possibly starting and I will usually take a starter ahead of a backup in most cases, but I start Jacobs here. Lundy won't get significantly more carries than Dayne and whoever else plus Houston has shown they can't get anything done on the ground. NY can move the ball and Jacobs will get the goaline touches

They are, but they will be without Mike Peterson for the rest of the year. He has led the Jaguars in tackles the past four years and I think he actually is the league leader in that same span.

But, I still don't play Lundy. Stroud is healthy along with Henderson, and I just dont like RB's against those two. Jacobs is the play this week.

Originally had Maroney plugged in, though he has been on and off and splits carries. Buf has been weak against the run though. Jones has been best of the bunch, but hasn't been scoring much. NYG was tough against the run, but Dunn put up huge numbers. Taylor has put up some yards and was leading in touches, but like Jones he hasnt scored much. Standard yahoo scoring
