The review in the local paper liked the movie, but thought it would have been even better if Mark Wahlberg had ben cast in one of the two main roles.

thats a good point.

since he grew up as a 'scummy type from boston' the dicaprio role would have been best.

damon was good though. you know a movie has you by the nuts when you actually have feelings attacched to the charecters.

he was really good in it though.

Planning on seeing it at some point this weekend. Many critics are calling it Scorsese's best work since Goodfellas.

I saw this today and loved it. I think Damon totally killed in this movie, and so did Nicholson and Baldwin and Wahlberg. I liked DiCaprio but didn't really feel like it was anything too new for him. I felt like I'd seen him play that character before or something.

sublime - does this movie have a lot of great, quotable lines? Will this be something that goes into my regular DVD rotation at 3am after a night of drinking?

lot of cool one liners, yes.

it also has a LOT of alpha male behaviour. you leave the movie with testoterone oozing out of your pores.

Re: The Departed

How in the world could you think Wahlberg killed the film? He was amazing in his role. I was shocked by DiCaprio's work in this film. I still was always thinking of him as Titanic Leo throughout Gangs of New York and even Aviator. I just couldn't shake it.

However, this definitely showed me that Leo can do an amazing job.

I thought the acting alone carried the movie. I think I liked the storyline better in Infernal Affairs, but this one was probably executed better overall, thanks to the acting especially.

I thought Baldwin's character was good too. I don't know...guess we just disagreed.

this was one of the best movies I've ever seen...just awesome. The music during the film also added a lot. I loved how they used The Dropkick Murphy's song I'm Shipping Up To Boston, it just was perfect for the it.

300 also looks like a badass flick.

Just chiming in to say this was my favorite Martin Scorsese film. I do not think it was his best work, but it was incredibly satisfying.

Jesus Christ this was good... really good bit parts from Wahlberg and Baldwin, IMO. The ending skirted around the realm of unbelievability, but was awesome.

It was a good movie that could have been great. It's no Goodfellas that's for sure. It had some of the worst editing I've ever seen in a decent movie. I think it should have been about 30 minutes longer, but they tried to shorten it while keeping in every scene. It was very choppy.

just came back from this movie, i am really happy that scorsase paid homage to infernal affairs by using a lot of the same scenes.

the ending of this movie while very similiar is very very different than the original and i am not sure if it skewed my thoughts on the departed or not, but i will just say i liked the original's ending better.

Is it just me or does it seem like this movie hasn't been getting a lot of publicity? I mean I didn't see ads/trailers for this till about a week ago. With a cast like that you'd think they'd have been talking about it a few months ago.

After paying Jack/DiCaprio/Damon/Wahlberg/Scorsese/music royalties...there wasn't any money left to market.

Haven't seen it yet, but this is what I was afraid of.

The ending of Infernal Affairs rocked.

Re: The Departed

In some ways the ending might be considered better. It just isn't as simple unfortunately. I definitely liked the original better. But this one wasn't exactly unbelievable. The thing I am shaky about is whether or not I like how the ending came...because they handled a certain character MUCH differently in the new one.

I've had the same all time favorite movie for 23 years, but from what I've heard so far about this one, I'm optimistic that it may be in contention.
